The IND vs AUS first T20I in Visakhapatnam kickstarts a five-match series between India and Australia. All the matches start from 7 pm IST with the series starting the preparations for the T20 World Cup 2023 for both teams.
India will be led by Suryakumar Yadav in the T20Is series with all the senior players rested. Ruturaj Gaikwad will be the vice-captain for the first three games followed by Shreyas Iyer for the last two games.
The management has given younger players a chance to test India’s strength ahead of the T20 World Cup 2023. Almost all of them are specialists for their respective IPL franchises.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar have been picked in the Indin squad for the five-match T20I series.
Australia will be led by Matthew Wade with their senior players being rested as well. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh have been rested. Australian all-rounder Aaron Hardie was called up as Warner’s replacement. Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa, Marcus Stoinis, Travis Head, and Sean Abbott were picked for the T20I series from the squad that played the World Cup.

The series kickstarts preparations for the next year’s T20 World Cup for both teams. The World Cup final loss meant that India’s wait for their next ICC title continues. They won their first and only T20 World Cup title in 2007. Australia won their first title more recently in 2021.
The two teams have played 26 T20Is with India winning 15 matches and Australia 10. One match ended with no result. India having been beaten by the Aussies in the World Cup final is now eyeing to win the T20I series and complete a revenge of sorts.
