The IND vs AUS 1st T20I will be played in Vishakhapatnam on November 23. The match starts at 7 pm IST. Both teams are fresh from the ICC World Cup 2023 with Australia winning the World Cup title for the sixth time.
The IND vs AUS T20I series starts just three days after the end of the World Cup. Both teams have named very different squads to one which played in the World Cup. Senior players from both sides have been rested as some new faces have been given a chance.
For India, Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side with all the senior players rested. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested for the series. Hardik Pandya, meanwhile, is yet to recover from the ankle injury that ruled him out of the World Cup. Yuzvendra Chahal and Sanju Samson were snubbed from selection for the T20I series.
The BCCI selection committee has named a young side with India’s bench strength getting well and truly tested. Shreyas Iyer will miss the first T20I and will return as the vice-captain of the side for the last two T20Is. The series begins with the first T20I in Visakhapatnam on November 23 and ends in Bengaluru on December 3.
Australia, on the other hand, will be led by wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade. The selectors have rested the regular players including skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, David Warner, and Mitchell Marsh. Marsh will be the next full-time T2-I skipper ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup. Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Sean Abbott, Travis Head Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa were retained in the T20I squad from the squad that played the World Cup.
