Legendary cricketer Javed Miandad criticized the appointments made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following a revamp of the entire coaching staff. Javed Miandad expressed disappointment over the selection of younger coaches for the national team.

Mohammad Hafeez has been appointed as the team director, succeeding Mickey Arthur. Hafeez will also serve as the head coach for the upcoming Test series against Australia. Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal will serve as fast and spin bowling coaches, respectively.

There Should Be A Significant Age Difference – Javed Miandad

While speaking to the media on Tuesday in Karachi, Miandad advocated for a significant age difference between coaches and players to ensure respect. He pointed out the removal of Babar Azam from the captaincy, stating that they lack an understanding of cricket.

“There should be a significant age difference between coaches and players. If there is no age gap, players will not respect the coach,” Miandad said, as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

“Those who don’t understand cricket removed Babar Azam from captaincy,” he further added.

The board made changes following the team’s disappointing campaign in the recently concluded World Cup 2023. The Men in Green failed to qualify for the semi-finals and finished in fifth place. They also didn’t qualify for the finals during the Asia Cup 2023.

Sarfaraz Ahmed Should Have Been The Captain – Javed Miandad

Javed Miandad stated that wicketkeeper batter Sarfaraz Ahmed should be named as captain of the team for the red ball series against Australia due to his leadership experience.

“Sarfaraz Ahmed should not only be included in the team against Australia, but due to his experience, he should have been the captain,” Miandad further stated.

Babar Azam stepped down from the captaincy across all formats. Shan Masood was named as the Test captain ahead of Shaheen Afridi. Shaheen Afridi became the T20I captain, while the ODI captaincy is yet to be officially confirmed by the cricket board.
