Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt opened up about Indian fans engaging in abusive behavior towards Australian players and their families. Butt expressed disapproval of the harassment on social media, emphasizing that it goes against the spirit of sportsmanship.

Australia registered a six-wicket victory against India in the World Cup Final in Ahmedabad on November 19. However, cricket supporters issued reprehensible threats, including rape threats, directed at the family members of Travis Head, the Player of the Match in the final.

This Should Not Be Happening – Salman Butt

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Salman Butt said that such behavior is not representative of all Indians. Butt urged fans to focus on applauding the achievements of the players rather than engaging in inappropriate behavior.

“If some fans are harassing Australian players and their families on social media, it is not a reflection of all Indians. It is a reflection of a few people who think differently and poorly. This should not be happening. You should applaud the winning team, which I’m sure most Indian fans have done,” Butt said.

Australia secured their sixth ODI World Cup title by chasing down a 241-run target with six wickets in hand. The Pat Cummins-led side outplayed India, who entered the final unbeaten after winning all league matches and defeating New Zealand in the first semi-final.

India Have Started Their Preparations For T20 World Cup 2024 – Salman Butt

Salman Butt praised the Indian selectors for consistently providing opportunities to young players in preparation for the 2024 T20 World Cup. He emphasized the team’s intent to build backups for every player, highlighting a strategic approach to ensure depth.

“India are testing their bench strength in this series. They have started their preparations right after the ODI World Cup. You can clearly see their intent to have a backup for every player on the road to the T20 World Cup, which makes a lot of sense,” Butt further added.

The Indian team will host Australia in a five-match T20I series, with the first match scheduled to be played in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, November 23. Suryakumar Yadav is set to captain the second-string team, marking his first stint as the national team captain.
