Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) opener KL Rahul registered the third-fastest fifty of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) against Chennai Super Kings in the last league match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

Chasing 171 runs set by Chennai banking Faf du Plessis outstanding knock, Rahul started on the fifth gear taking the Chennai Super Kings bowlers to the cleaners. Punjab only managed to score six from Deepak Chahar‘s first over before the opening duo took 18 runs off the second over from Harbhajan Singh. Chris Gayle started the over with a boundary and then Rahul backed it up two consecutive sixes to set the tone for the run chase. Chahar did well in the third over giving away only nine runs to have Kings XI Punjab at 33 for no loss at the end of three overs.

KL Rahul then launched an absolute carnage at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The Karnataka opener started the over with three consecutive fours from the first three balls of the over. He then smacked the four ball for a six over the long-off only to finish the over with another over-boundary from a brilliant lofted shot. Meanwhile, it was a lone show from Rahul while Chris Gayle stood at four off five deliveries.  Rahul took 41 runs from Harbhajan Singh’s two over in the powerplays.

In the process, KL Rahul brought the third fastest half-century of the season from just 19 balls after Hardik Pandya (17 balls), and Rishabh Pant (18 deliveries).
