Delhi Capitals (DC) have qualified for the playoff stages after six years in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). They have come out as a unit and have played some good cricket. However, the inconsistency of wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will be their only concern going into the playoffs. But Pant didn’t seem too worried about it and said that he will gain maturity with time.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant started his IPL 2019 campaign with a bang smashing 78 off 27 deliveries against Mumbai Indians. Since then, the 21-year-old has struggled to achieve consistency and has managed to register only two fifties in the next 13 games. Moreover, he has thrown his wickets away in a few crunch games which have hurt Delhi Capitals badly.

Rishabh Pant admitted that finishing games are important and he is learning to achieve that consistently. He also said that it won’t change in a day and will only grow with experiences and ability to learn from the mistakes. Pant is hopeful that with due time his mind will grow stronger and will also develop his maturity level.

“I take any criticism positively. Finishing matches is important. I will learn to do it consistently. You only learn from your experiences and mistakes. Things don’t change overnight. I am just 21. It’s difficult to think like a 30-year-old man. In due course, my mind will be stronger and there will be a lot of maturity. You need to give it time,” Pant said to TOI.

World Cup snub is not the end

Meanwhile, exclusion of Rishabh Pant from the World Cup squad came as a surprise to many. The selectors headed by MSK Prasad preferred the experience of Dinesh Karthik over Pant for the marquee tournament. However, the young cricketer from Delhi noted that as a professional one need to know how to deal with it.

Rishabh Pant is looking to keep himself positive and move on from that recent omission. He said it is important to keep moving and continue doing his job.

“It is a setback when you are not selected. I am used to it. But a professional should know how to deal with it. Things will not always be the way you want them to be. When things don’t go your way, you need to find a way to keep yourself positive. The important thing is to know how you can move on,” he concluded.

Rishabh Pant; however, is in the standby list for the showpiece event. But his focus will be upcoming Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 8 (Wednesday) at Visakhapatnam to go one step closer to the finals of the IPL.
