Jayant Yadav returned with one for 25 while Rahul Chahar picked two wickets to contain Chennai Super Kings for 130 runs. Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni played good hands to take the total to a respectable one. Rayudu remained unbeaten on 42 runs while Dhoni chipped in 37 useful runs. However, it was not enough as Suryakumar Yadav held the fort from one end to see Mumbai Indians home. He remained unbeaten on 71 and with contributions from Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya, the visitors clinched the tie.
Mumbai have focused on tactical planning
Speaking about the recipe of success, Mumbai Indians spinner Jayant Yadav revealed that they have set the tactics according to the conditions which have helped them in this season. The off-spinner also added that they have focused on implementing the plans keenly in the last seven weeks.
“Our plans on batting or bowling have always been condition specific. For example in Wankhede, there are different plans for different people. In Chennai, there are different plans for different people. So, it’s about gearing yourself tactically to various situations and trying to execute those plans to the hilt,” he said at the post-match conference.
Furthermore, Jayant Yadav admitted that he played as an extra off-spinner to tackle the left-handed batsmen in the Chennai Super Kings camp. Jayant said it was a tactical move which came out well and helped them beat the defending champions. He also added that spinners from both the sides got the purchase but having the target at the disposal helped them pace their innings. Yadav also hailed Rohit Sharma’s plan to play five spinners keeping in mind the slowish nature of the Chepauk wicket.
