India were eliminated from the 2022 T20 World Cup after losing to England in the semi-finals. The Rohit Sharma-led squad had a great run throughout the competition in the Super 12 stage, losing only one match against South Africa. Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has emerged as one of India’s breakout talents in 2022.

The young left-arm fast has quickly established himself in India’s T20I squad and looks set to do the same in ODIs as well. He has become skipper Rohit Sharma’s go-to bowler in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah since his debut in June, capable of bowling well with the new ball and in the death overs, taking 33 wickets in 23 matches.

Arshdeep Singh Showed What He Is Made Of –  Brett Lee

Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee praised India’s Arshdeep Singh for his outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup.

“We go back to only a few months ago when Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of this T20 World Cup. Everyone thought huge shoes to fill, definitely true, he is a superstar of the game with his world-class yorkers. He is a three-format bowler, he bowls well at the death,” said Brett Lee on his YouTube channel.

“But in cricket, as we know, one man’s absence is another man’s opportunity to shine. And this young man Arshdeep, he is playing first-ever World Cup event, on the big stage, he showed what he is made of. He is my new favourite left-arm pacer from India. I like what he has done”

“Very often teams don’t know what to do with these young and breakout stars. We have seen it before when young players get involved and advices from players, TV, commentators, at the hotel. Every man means well but very often, too much advice can be counter-productive. So, I think Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma have the responsibility to shield Arshdeep Singh from this overdose of advice,” he added.

Arshdeep Singh made his India debut in July during the T20I series against England and was impressed with figures of 2/18 from 3.3 overs in Southampton. The youngster did well in the home bilateral series against South Africa, taking five wickets at an average of 18.80 in two games.

With Jasprit Bumrah out of the T20 World Cup due to a back injury, Arshdeep stepped up to take up the pace bowling responsibilities. The left-arm pacer contributed significantly to the Men in Blue in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, taking 10 wickets in six matches at an average of 15.60 and an economy rate of 7.80.

In India’s final T20I against New Zealand in Napier, the 23-year-old registered his career-best T20I figures (4/37). On the same tour, he made his ODI debut in Auckland.

Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Dinesh Karthik was all praises for West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell’s batting in the IPL 2019. Russell was at his destructive best in the tournament, often bailing KKR out of troublesome situations and even winning matches from impossible situations.

Russell had joined the KKR team in 2014, the year in which they won the IPL for the second time, but had to wait for a couple of years to show why he is considered to be so special. In 2015 and 2018, Russell had decent outings for KKR, scoring over 300 runs in each season; however, it was in 2019 that Russell finally came into his elements, blasting 510 runs from 14 matches at a strike rate of 204.80.

In a span of 10-11 balls, Andre Russell hit six or five sixes: Dinesh Karthik

Talking about his favorite innings from Andre Russell in an ESPNCricinfo video, Dinesh Karthik recounted his 13-ball 48* against Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2019. RCB had set KKR a target of 206 to win the match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, thanks to amazing knocks from Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, who scored half-centuries.

KKR did their best, but the equation came to 53 needed off 18 balls for Dinesh Karthik’s team to win the match. It was an impossible situation but for KKR, the positive was that Andre Russell was still at the crease.

“Andre Russell… in 2019 batted the best he’s ever batted in his career. Some of the innings he played, he single-handedly won the game for us. I very vividly remember one over when some bowler started it, and he got injured after one ball. Comes in Marcus Stoinis… my god, the way he hit Stoinis and that’s where things started. And then he took out Southee. These two overs and in a span of 10-11 balls, he hit six or five sixes, I’m not sure, completely changed the game,” Karthik said in a video on ESPNCricinfo.

Russell unleashed a fury hitting 7 sixes and 1 four in his knock of 13 balls, finishing with 48*, as KKR won the match by 5 wickets and astonishingly, with 5 balls in hand. Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis bowled three balls and got hit for six twice. Tim Southee gave 29 runs in the penultimate over as Russell ran wild.

“Till about 16 overs, which is about 36 overs of this game, RCB were all the way up and running. They were killing it. But just that point, in walks Andre Russell and the way he batted was just an absolute treat to watch him,” Karthik added.

Both the teams had made contrasting starts to their campaign. Royals were off the mark with two thumping wins. But things have gone only downhill for them since then. They lost their following four games and need to get back to winning ways quickly or else the remainder of the season will become just a mere formality.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, started their campaign with two defeats. However, the David Warner-led side has bounced back in style and has won three of its last four games to keep pace with the other teams. A win today will put them in the top four.

Toss report:

Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the toss and have opted to bat first against Rajasthan Royals.

Chennai Super Kings’ journey in this year’s IPL came to a heartbreaking end with a thrilling loss to Mumbai Indians.  Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, two of the most successful teams in the history of the league, locked horns in the title-decider and played out one of the most memorable games in the league. The nail-biter kept the fans on the edge of their seats throughout.

The game went right down to the wire with Super kings needing 9 runs from the last over in pursuit of 150. With Shane Watson at the crease batting on 76 and Ravindra Jadeja giving him company, the Super Kings looked favourites to win the game. For Mumbai, the responsibility was on Lasith Malinga to defend the 8 runs and the veteran delivered.

The first three balls went for four runs before Shane Watson was run out while trying to take a double. Shardul Thkaur then dispatched a full-toss for a double before being trapped in front of the wicket with his team needing 2 runs from the final ball.

Super Kings had started their chase on a good note and had raced away to 53 for 1 inside the powerplay. However, Mumbai soon dismissed Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni in quick succession to reduce the Super Kings to 82 for 4 from 70 for 1. Watson was waging a lone battle but he too could not take the team over the line.

With that win, Mumbai Indians became the first team to win the IPL four times. However, for Google Chennai Super Kings are the champions of this year’s IPL. While Google is showing that Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in the IPL, they are also showing Chennai Super Kings as the current champions.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Shane Watson has grabbed the headlines since news broke out that he battled with a bloodied knee to almost take Chennai over the ropes in the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) finals. However, the departure of Watson in the final over changed the course as Mumbai Indians went home with the fourth trophy on Sunday night.

Watson battled with a bloodied knee in the final

Shane Watson played a knock of 80 runs during their chase of 150 runs set by Mumbai at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Mumbai dominated the game throughout the game before capitalised on the lost chances to shift the momentum in the last five overs. He took two 20-run over off Lasith Maling and Krunal Pandya to bring down the required rate. But an outstanding last over from Malinga and dismissal of the former Aussie cricketer in the fourth guided Mumbai to the title.

However, it was the day after the game when Harbhajan Singh revealed the news that Shane Watson batted throughout the game with a knee injury. He had his pants soaked in pant during the death overs, but he didn’t give and fought till the very end. The veteran off-spinner also revealed that Watson had to undergo six stitches after the end of the match. Yesterday, he also faced troubles while walking and had to limp off to his plane.

Meanwhile, upon reaching his country, Shane Watson has thanked all the fans and followers for the immense love and support for the last two days. The veteran all-rounder also revealed that he will come back next year to take Chennai Super Kings one step over to the trophy. However, Watson had an average tournament and lacked consistency, and with age cropping, there will be doubts over his participation in the next edition of IPL.

“Hi everyone, I have just arrived on time and I want to thank everyone for their love, support, and best wishes they have given me over the last few days. We were so close to getting over the line against Mumbai but it was an amazing final. Looking forward to come back next year to take that one step further. Whistle Podu,” Watson said in the video.

The 12th edition of the Indian Premier League came to an end yesterday with Mumbai Indians clinching a nail-biting thriller by a solitary run to record their 4th IPL title which is the most by an IPL team. The fast bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga held their nerves and did the job for MI in the last couple of overs.

During the course of the tournament, there were several great performances from individual cricketers. The Indian players made good use of the tournament as a preparation for the 2019 World Cup. The first ball of the 2019 World Cup will be bowled in 17 day’s time and there are several cricketers who could turn out to be the match changer for their respective teams.

Now let us have a look at 5 biggest positives for India from the IPL 12

The form of Jasprit Bumrah

IPL

There is no doubt about the fact that Jasprit Bumrah is the best bowler in the world at the moment. The same opinion was voiced by Sachin Tendulkar as the speedster returned with a match-winning spell in the final of the tournament.

He has been very impressive all through the tournament and has given Mumbai Indians the much-needed breakthroughs at crucial junctures of the game. There is certainly no doubt about the fact that his exceptional form with the ball will keep India in good stead ahead of the showpiece event slated to be played in England and Wales from 30th May.

The hitting prowess of MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni, IPL 2019, Chennai Super Kings
BCCI

The CSK skipper MS Dhoni was one of the most consistent batsmen in the tournament and bailed CSK out of trouble on numerous occasions. He is a powerful striker of the ball and it was quite evident during the course of the tournament. Dhoni was unfortunately run out in the final of the tournament which proved to be the decisive moment in the match.

His leadership qualities were superb as well as he handled his bowlers with disdain. In a match against RCB, Chennai needed 26 to win off the final over and he smashed 3 sixes and a four in the first 5 deliveries to bring the calculation down to 2 of the final delivery. However as he scampered for the single, Shardul Thakur was run out by Parthiv Patel.

Return of form by Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan (Credits: Twitter)

The southpaw will be one of the most important players for India in the upcoming World Cup. Over the last few years, Dhawan has been India’s leading run scorer in ICC tournaments. He finished as the leading run-getter in the 2015 World Cup while also bagging the golden bat award in the ICC Champions Trophy in both 2013 and 2017.

Shikhar Dhawan didn’t look in the best of touches during the first half of the tournament. However, he bounced back strongly through the rest of the tournament and scored heaps for runs for Delhi Capitals and took them within touching distance of a title victory. The southpaw is a terrific striker of the ball who can change the complexion of the game anytime.

The Game Changer- Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya. (Photo by Marty Melville / AFP)

The Mumbai Indians all-rounder had the best IPL in his career by far and he smashed the ball towards all part of the stadium. He was quite inspiring as a player all through the tournament and kept on contributing with both bat and the ball. He also developed a new helicopter shot this tournament which he executed quite a few times in the tournament.

His knock of 91 of 34 deliveries is the best innings I have ever witnessed in IPL. Besides his batting abilities, Hardik Pandya also bagged a Man of the Match Award due to his bowling efforts. There is also no doubt about the fact that Hardik is a champion athlete and a safe fielder wherever he fields.

KL Rahul’s form with the bat

KL Rahul | IPL 2019 |
K

Kings XI Punjab opener KL Rahul again had a terrific season with the bat and scored the bulk of the runs for Punjab. However he didn’t start off well and had four poor scores to begin the tournament. However, the team management persisted with him and he repaid the faith shown in him by the stylish batsman.

He might not be in the Playing XI for the World Cup but can definitely make an impact if given an opportunity during the course of the tournament. He might bat at the middle order or could even open the innings if the first choice openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are injured.

The twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end with a thrilling finale on Sunday. Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings by 1 run to lift the title for a record fourth time. Mumbai Indians became the first team to lift the trophy for the fourth time, one more than second-placed Super Kings who have now lost as many as five finals. The thrilling final was a fitting end to the season that is arguably the most competitive seasons in the history of the league.

As many as three teams – Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals – finished with 9 wins to finish in the top three. Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab finished with 6 wins on each while Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore finished with five wins and one no-result. The season, nonetheless, saw some handful of players making a name for themselves with some scintillating individual performances.

Mumbai mentor Sachin Tendulkar hailed Bumrah after the match calling him as the best in the bowler in the world. However, Sachin maintained that his best is yet to come.

Batting first, Chennai Super Kings bowlers once again presented a top-class performance to contain Mumbai Indians to 149 runs. After a flying start, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar put a brake on the run-flow and kept chipping in with crucial wickets to keep Mumbai Indians at bay. However, some late blows from Kieron Pollard helped the champions to post a challenging total on the board.

Bumrah is the best bowler in the world: Tendulkar

During the chase, Faf du Plessis gave Chennai a swashbuckling start before Mumbai banked on Rahul Chahar to nip back in the middle overs. But Shane Watson who got a handful of lives was still in the middle leading the charge for the defending champions. He took 40 runs from two overs to change the momentum of the game before Watson got runout in the last over which took the game to Mumbai’s favour. Jasprit Bumrah was outstanding with the ball as kept things tight from one end to build pressure on the opponent team. He returned with two for 14 runs from his full quota to go home with the man of the match award.

Soon after the game, Sachin Tendulkar hailed Jasprit Bumrah saying him the best in the business. However, Tendulkar maintained that the best is yet to come for the young bowler. He also added that Bumrah will be the bowler to watch out for in the upcoming ICC World Cup.

BCCI

“Let me go on record and say he is the best bowler in the world at this stage and his best is yet to come hopefully,” Sachin Tendulkar said of the Jasprit Bumrah. “He will definitely be the bowler to watch out for India in the upcoming World Cup and could well be the X factor for the Men in Blue,” he concluded.

India will begin their World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 5 at the Rose Bowl Cricket Ground.

Jasprit Bumrah played a decisive role in this final of the just-concluded final of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In a game which was marred by mistakes from either sides, it was Bumrah who displayed his class to power Mumbai Indians to a record fourth IPL title.  Every time a Mumbai Indians bowler was taken to the cleaners, Rohit Sharma turned towards Bumrah and he duly delivered.

With just 150 runs to defend against the defending champions, Mumbai Indians needed a special effort with the ball and Bumrah led the charge brilliantly. In the 4th over, Krunal Pandya went for 14 runs. Rohit handed the ball to Bumrah to bowl the fifth and he conceded just five runs. He came to bowl again in the eleventh over and did even better, conceding just one while picking the wicket of Ambati Rayudu.

But the best was yet to come. The game was heading towards a tight finish and Rohit saved Bumrah’s two overs for the last and perhaps that was the decision that turned the game in Mumbai’s favour. In the 16th over, Lasith Malinga went for 20 runs as Shane Watson went for the big shots. But Bumrah brought back Mumbai in the game by conceding just four runs in the 17th over.

In the 18th over, Krunal Pandya ended up conceding 20 with Watson hitting three consecutive sixes. Bumrah then came on to bowl the 19th and impressed again. The right-arm pacer conceded just five runs to keep the contest alive. Malinga then defended the 9 runs in the final over to restrict Super Kings to 148 for 7, thus helping Mumbai win the game by just 1 run. Bumrah ended the game with impressive figures of 2 for 14 and was named the Man of the Match.

Following the game, Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh hailed Bumrah as the best bowler in the world. The two were interacting with each other and the clip was posted by IPL on their official Twitter handle.

Pandya, meanwhile, came across the tweet on Monday and was quick to reply. The ever-humble pacer from Gujarat thanked Tendulkar while writing:

“I am Speechless thank you sachin sir ?”

The final of this year’s Indian Premier League lived up to the expectations. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, two of the most successful teams in the history of the league, locked horns in the title-decider and played out one of the most memorable games in the league. The nail-biter kept the fans on the edge of their seats.

The game went right down to the wire with Super kings needing 9 runs from the last over.

Earlier in the game, Mumbai Indians posted 149 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. Rohit Sharma‘s decision to bat first looked spot on at the start when Quinton de Kock hit Deepak Chahar for three sixes in the third over to set the tone.

But the Super Kings struck quickly to remove de Kock and Rohit inside powerplay as Mumbai finished the first six overs on 45 for 2. Mumbai kept losing wickets at regular intervals but some handy knocks from the likes of Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard took them to a challenging total which eventually turned out to be just enough in the end.

But while the final is being widely hailed as one of the finest finals, Bollywood critic and actor Kamaal Rashid Khan aka KRK thinks there was something wrong with proceedings. Highlighting some incidents from the game, KRK tweeted:

“Dhoni, Raina, Rayudu’s forcefully getting out and then Shane Watson’s unnecessary run out in the last over is proof that Ambani can do anything in India and money can do anything in this world.”

Mumbai Indians scripted history as they managed to lift their 4th IPL title after registering a one-run victory against the Chennai Super Kings in the final of Vivo IPL 12 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. It was a record 4th title for the Mumbai Indians and the 4th one for Rohit Sharma as the skipper of MI.

Over the years Rohit Sharma has been a terrific captain for the MI and it was evident yet another time. Some of his decisions were exceptional which changed the course of the match. With Mumbai Indians winning their 4th IPL title, there could be possibilities that he might be made the Indian captain in the future.

Now with the tournament done and dusted, let us have a look at why Rohit Sharma deserves to lead the Indian ODI and T20 team.

Calming influence

Rohit Sharma (Credits: BCCI)

Rohit Sharma just like MS Dhoni has a calming influence as a skipper who is taking charge of his troops in the field. Known as the ‘Hitman’ of world cricket, Rohit Sharma is a calm and composed skipper who never takes any decision at haste. Over the years he has improved as a skipper by leaps and bounds and has led MI to 4th IPL title in 7 years.

Rohit Sharma could well prove to be the actual successor of MS Dhoni. If Rohit Sharma is handed the Indian ODI captaincy, Virat Kohli will also be relieved of his duties which might help him perform a tad better as a batsman.

Trusting the players

Rohit Sharma (Credits: BCCI)

It is one of the most important traits of Rohit Sharma. He tends to trust his players a lot which have resulted in several victories for the Mumbai Indians and it was quite evident yesterday against the Chennai Super Kings. Lasith Malinga conceded 20 runs in the 6th over which brought the calculation down to 42 of the last 4 overs. Not many skippers would have again given the ball to Malinga.

However, Rohit Sharma backed Malinga in the final over and gave him the ball with CSK needing 9 of the final over. The rest turned out to be history as Lasith Malinga managed to defend 9 runs in the final over to hand MI a one-run victory.

Setting perfect field placements

Some of the field placements of Rohit Sharma through the course of Vivo IPL 12 was sensational and it also helped them to change the course of the game. He has been very clear in his mind in which field he wants and always backs the bowler to execute his plans.

He did lose his cool a bit and it is expected during a final of a tournament. When MS Dhoni came out to bat yesterday, a slip was employed which proved that MI wanted to bag his wicket rather than curbing the run flow. The field placements in the final over were immaculate as well bowled by Lasith Malinga.

Decisive in decision making

Rohit Sharma is very sure of his decision making and backs himself to come out with flying colours. He has a set plan and he is ready to back his players to any extent which makes him a special skipper. Rohit Sharma was quite clear of giving the final over of the match to Lasith Malinga despite the pacer conceding 20 runs in the 16th over.

It was a big call to say the least. However, Rohit Sharma knew that it was only Malinga who could have defended those 9 runs in the final over. He also kept his word of opening the batting all through the tournament.

Chennai Super Kings failed to complete the double of winning consecutive Indian Premier League trophies as they went down as Mumbai Indians by one run in a picturesque final clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Chennai looked in the scheme of things until Shane Watson’s untimely runout in the fourth delivery of the last over of the match.

BCCI

During the chase, Faf du Plessis gave Chennai a swashbuckling start before Mumbai banked on Rahul Chahar to nip back in the middle overs. But Shane Watson who got a handful of lives was still in the middle leading the charge for the defending champions. He took 40 runs from two overs to change the momentum of the game before Watson got runout in the last over which took the game to Mumbai’s favour.

It was an utter confusion from Ravindra Jadeja and Shane Watson while taking the second run. The half-hearted yes without proper consent ends up with Watson falling short. The throw was fat from Krunal Pandya, which Quinton de Kock collects from well behind the stumps and under-arms it onto the stumps. Lasith Maling then bowled two perfect yorkers to hand Mumbai Indians their fourth IPL title.

Meanwhile, the untimely runout of Shane Watson irked the fans, and they took a dig at Ravindra Jadeja. Here is how they vented their anger on Twitter:

The Mumbai-based franchise beat Chennai Super Kings by one run to become the first team to win the title four times.  The game lived up to the expectations as it kept the fans glued to the edge of their seats before Mumbai Indians managed to cross the finishing line.

Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted 149 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. Rohit Sharma‘s decision to bat first looked spot on at the start when Quinton de Kock hit Deepak Chahar for three sixes in the third over to set the tone.

Mumbai kept losing wickets at regular intervals but some handy knocks from the likes of Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard took them to a challenging total which eventually turned out to be just enough in the end.

In reply,  Super Kings ended up on 148 for 7. The Super Kings were comfortably placed at 70 for 1 in the tenth over before losing Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni for just 12 runs. Shane Watson did manage to keep Super Kings in contention with a fighting fifty but departed on the fourth ball of the 20th over when his team needed just 5 from three balls. Lasith Malinga then defended the three runs to power Mumbai to a monumental win.

“Throughout the tournament we played some good cricket which was the reason we qualified at the top. We planned to split the tournament into two parts, every thing we did as a team, we got the rewards for them. We have a squad of 25 players, everyone came in at some stage and did the job; the support-staff as well,” a delighted Rohit said after the win.

Rohit and others then celebrated the win to the fullest. Mumbai Indians’ official Twitter account posted a clip showing Rohit and Yuvraj Singh rapping together as they celebrated the win.

However, they stopped one step away from lifting the title in consecutive years as they went down against Mumbai Indians by one run at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Although the MS Dhoni-led side reached the finals of the tournament, but they were not at their personal best. They finished the competition in the second spot and had to play two Qualifier games to progress to the finals. Meanwhile, this edition witnessed Imran Tahir and Deepak Chahar rule the tournament with their impeccable display of bowling.

Chahar finished with 22 wickets while the veteran Chennai Super Kings leg-spinner finished with 26 wickets to win the Purple Cap.

Here is the squad rating of Chennai Super Kings:

SHANE WATSON (5/10)

Chennai Super Kings
BCCI

Shane Watson has had a relatively poor IPL but MS Dhoni backed the former Aussie cricketer, and he showed his exploits in the playoffs. Watson played a valiant knock in the final scoring 80 runs but couldn’t take his side over the rope. Watson has scored 398 runs from all the games in this season including three half-centuries which are quite below compared to his calibre.

FAF DU PLESSIS (6/10)

Faf du Plessis, IPL 2019, Chennai Super Kings
BCCI

Faf du Plessis came into the playing XI after repeated failures from Ambati Rayudu. He made full use of the opportunity scoring 396 runs from 12 games and was at his best in playoff games. He scored at a good strike-rate and scored three fifties. Du Plessis gave Chennai a good start scoring 26 off just 13 balls, but it ended on the losing note as they lost to Mumbai Indians by a solitary run.

SURESH RAINA (4/10)

Suresh Raina | MS Dhoni |
BCCI

Suresh Raina has been the best servant of Chennai Super Kings since the inception of IPL in 2008. However, the veteran cricketer has gone past his golden days which was evident in this season. He has been very inconsistent despite scoring 383 runs from 17 matches but has failed to stand up due to crunch situations including the final.

AMBATI RAYUDU (3/10)

Ambati Rayudu
BCCI

Ambati Rayudu had a very poor outing for the Chennai Super Kings which compelled the management to demote him in the batting order. The veteran batsman managed to score only 282 runs from 17 matches and has been relatively inconsistent for the franchise. MS Dhoni offered a lot of backing, but Rayudu failed to live upto the expectations.

MS DHONI (9/10)

MS Dhoni, IPL 2019, Chennai Super Kings
BCCI

MS Dhoni has been scintillating for the Chennai Super Kings and has led the side from the front. Apart from his brilliance in leading the team, Dhoni was in superlative form with the bat. He has scored 416 runs from 15 matches at a staggering average of 83.20 including three fifties. His form with the bat will certainly be a good sign for the Indian National Cricket team ahead of the mega tournament.

KEDAR JADHAV (3.5/10)

Kedar Jadhav, IPL 2019, Chennai Super Kings, Stephen Fleming
BCCI

Kedar Jadhav had a very average tournament before bowing out midway due to injury. The all-rounder could only manage 169 runs from 14 matches at an average of 18 which will cast doubts over his place in the World Cup squad.

DWAYNE BRAVO (5/10)

IPL

Dwayne Bravo had a very mediocre tournament going by his standards. The experienced Windies all-rounder featured in 12 games for the Chennai Super Kings claiming only 11 wickets and scoring 80 runs at an average of only 16. Bravo’s brilliance in this format has finally started to fade with his growing age.

RAVINDRA JADEJA (5.5/10)

BCCI

Ravindra Jadeja had a good outing in the IPL ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019. He has scored runs and also picked crucial wickets to justify his selection. Jadeja picked 15 wickets from 16 games and also score 105 runs to contribute to the team’s success.

HARBHAJAN SINGH (7/10)

Harbhajan Singh
BCCI

Harbhajan Singh has done wonders in this season for the Chennai Super Kings bowling in the powerplays. The veteran off-spinner has been economical throughout the season and picked 16 wickets from 11 matches giving useful breakthroughs in the first six overs. Although he went wicketless in the finals, Harbhajan kept things tight from one end to build on the pressure.

MITCHELL SANTNER (4/10)

BCCI

Mitchell Santner had a fair time in India showing his abilities in whatever limited opportunities that came his way. The all-rounder from New Zealand chipped in with four wickets from four matches and was economical and scored 32 runs with the highest score of 22.

DHRUV SHOREY (1/10)

Image result for dhruv shorey ipl 2019
BCCI

The Delhi-based batsman, Dhruv Shorey got only game replacing MS Dhoni who was out due to a slight niggle. However, the 26-year-old failed to impress as he could manage to score only five runs and since then had to sit out.

SCOTT KUGGELEIJN (2/10)

BCCI

Coming in as a replacement for Lungi Ngidi, Scott Kuggeleijn got only two games in this season. The Kiwi fast bowler was expensive giving away 8.87 runs per over and claiming only two wickets in the two matches he played.

SHARDUL THAKUR (4.5/10)

Shardul Thakur
BCCI

Shardul Thakur had an average tournament but starred in the final against Mumbai Indians. He picked two crucial wickets to contain Mumbai to 149 runs, but it went in vain as Chennai Super Kings lost the match by one run. Thakur has bagged eight wickets from ten games in this season at an economy rate of 9.36.

DEEPAK CHAHAR (8.5/10)

IPL

Deepak Chahar has been a revelation in the last two seasons. MS Dhoni has bestowed responsibilities on him, and the fast bowler has responded well by picking 22 wickets from 17 games at an economy rate of 7.47. Chahar has grown as a cricketer and will be looking for a place in the national side.

IMRAN TAHIR (9.5/10)

IPL Chennai Super Kings
BCCI

Imran Tahir has done a splendid job for the runners-up. The 40-year-old leg-spinner returned with 26 wickets – the highest of the season and proved to be a match-winner for the Chennai Super Kings throughout the season.

MURALI VIJAY (4/10)

Image result for vijay ipl 2019
BCCI

Murali Vijay played two matches for Chennai Super Kings in this edition of IPL. The veteran India cricketer scored 64 runs with the highest score of 38 which went into the losing cause.

KARN SHARMA (1/10)

Karn Sharma IPL 2018 Chennai Super Kings
BCCI

The veteran leg-spinner played only one match in the recently concluded IPL season. Karn Sharma returned with one for 33 in that game and never got an opportunity.

MOHIT SHARMA (1/10)

Mohit Sharma played only one match in the entire season returning with one wicket going at an economy of nine runs per over. He would hope to come back stronger in the next season.

Chennai Super Kings’ campaign in IPL 2019 ended on a heartbreaking note as they suffered a narrow 1-run loss at the hands of their bitter rivals Mumbai Indians. Following the narrow defeat, head coach Stephen Fleming indicated that there is a need for rebuilding an ‘ageing squad’. The loss was Super Kings’ fourth of the season against Mumbai Indians and third IPL final loss against the same opposition.

Chasing 150, Super Kings ended up on 148 for 7.

Following the loss, Fleming admitted that the team needs to be rebuilt in order to compete even better from the upcoming season. The Super Kings squad is called Dad’s army by the fans for the several senior players in the team. The likes of Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, Imran Tahir, Harbhajan Singh, MS Dhoni and few others are well over 30 years of age. Fleming has now stated that the ageing team needs recreation, thus hinting that the team might release some senior players next season.

“We will give some time for dust to settle down. I think if you win one title and reach the final next time, you have had good two years. We do understand that we are an ageing team. So at some point, we just have to look at recreating the side, obviously MS as well,” said Fleming.

Fleming said that the planning for next season will start after Dhoni returns from the World Cup. The former New Zealand skipper said that just like other teams have created a new pool of talent, Super Kings will be cautious while entering into the rebuilding phase.

“He (Dhoni) will be travelling to the World Cup. A lot of talent has been established in other teams. You need to do it carefully and get the balance right, when you try to go for players who you think can deliver for us,” he said.

Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab had a roller coaster season in the Indian Premier League 2019. Punjab had a good start to the season but they veered off the track in the second half of the league stage. In fact, the Punjab franchise had a similar previous season and they would have been disappointed by their show.

Ravichandran Ashwin-led team won six matches out of the 14 they played. Thus, they finished at the sixth position in the points table. Punjab could come up with a collective performance and had to pay the prize. They were dependent on Chris Gayle and KL Rahul and the other batters could not come up with consistent performance.

Here is the squad rating of Kings XI Punjab:

Chris Gayle: 8.5/10

The combative southpaw batsman had another fruitful year in the IPL. The Universe Boss scored 490 runs in the 13 innings he played at an average of 40.83. Furthermore, Gayle scored his runs at a healthy strike rate of 153.61.

KL Rahul: 9/10

KL Rahul was able to break into India’s World Cup squad on the back of his good form in the IPL. The stylish batsman scored 593 runs in the 14 innings at an average of 59.3 and scored his runs at a strike rate of 136.39. Rahul also finished the season as the second highest run-getter.

Mayank Agarwal: 6.5/10

Mayank Agarwal was not able to convert his promising starts into substantial scores. The right-hander was able to hit the ground as he batted with an impressive strike rate of 141.88. The Karnataka batsman scored 332 runs in the 14 games at an average of 25.53.

David Miller: 5/10

David Miller had a disappointing season for the Punjab team. A lot was expected from the southpaw batsman however he could not live up to the expectations. The southpaw batsman amassed 213 runs in the 10 innings at an average of 26.62.

Mandeep Singh: 6/10

Mandeep Singh was given the responsibility to add the finishing touches. The Punjab based batsman scored 165 runs at an average of 41.25 and strike rate of 137.25. Hence, he had a see-saw season for the Kings XI Punjab.

Sarfaraz Khan: 7/10

The 21-year batsman Sarfaraz Khan was given his chances in the middle order. The right-hander scored 180 runs in the five innings at an impressive average of 45. However, Sarfaraz scored his runs at a strike rate of 125.87. Consequently, he was dropped from the playing XI.

Nicholas Pooran: 7/10

The Windies southpaw batsman impressed with his pyrotechnics as he scored his runs at a staggering strike rate of 157.01. Nicholas Pooran scored 168 runs at an average of 28 and also took the onus of wicket-keeping duties for the side.

Sam Curran: 7.5/10

The English all-rounder also impressed with his skills in his maiden IPL season. Curran also scalped the first hat-trick of the season. The left-arm seamer took 10 wickets in the nine matches and scored 95 runs at a strike rate of 172.73.

Kings XI Punjab could not come up with collective performance.

Mohammed Shami: 8.5/10

Mohammed Shami had the best season thus far in his IPL career. Shami snared 19 wickets in the 14 matches he played and thus he was the leading wicket-taker for Punjab. The fast bowler conceded his runs at an economy rate of 8.69 for Kings XI Punjab.

Ravichandran Ashwin: 7.5/10

Photo by Saikat Das /SPORTZPICS for BCCI

The Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin took 15 wickets in 14 matches. In fact, Ashwin’s leadership was also questionable as he took some peculiar decision regarding team selection. Ashwin scored 42 runs and had provided finishing touches in one of the matches.

Murugan Ashwin: 6/10

Photo by: Faheem Hussain /SPORTZPICS for BCCI

Murugan Ashwin bowled with an impressive economy rate of 7.50. However, Ashwin scalped only five wickets in the 10 matches he played in the season. Moreover, Ashwin was sloppy in the field for Kings XI Punjab.

Andrew Tye: 4/10

Andrew Tye was the highest wicket-taker in the previous season of the league. However, Tye performance was not up to the mark in this season. The Australian fast bowler scalped only three wickets in the six matches he played in the season.

Hardus Viljoen: 6.5/10

Photo by: Vipin Pawar /SPORTZPICS for BCCI

Hardus Viljoen took seven wickets in the six matches he played for his maiden season for Kings XI Punjab. However, the South African fast bowler was on the expensive side as he gave away runs at an economy of 9.65 for Kings XI Punjab.

Harbhajan Singh, Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Harbhajan Singh was seen banging his bat in anger after Chennai Super Kings suffered a heartbreaking loss to Mumbai Indians in the final of this year’s IPL. The Super Kings needed 9 runs from the final over with a well-set Shane Watson and Ravindra Jadeja in the middle. The game looked to be heading towards the Super Kings. However, Lasith Malinga delivered a stunning final over, conceding just 7 runs to power Mumbai to a breathtaking win.

It was the fourth title for Mumbai as they became the first-ever team to win the IPL four times.  The win was also their third win over Super Kings in an IPL final.  Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted 149 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. Rohit Sharma‘s decision to bat first looked spot on at the start when Quinton de Kock hit Deepak Chahar for three sixes in the third over to set the tone.

But the Super Kings struck quickly to remove de Kock and Rohit inside powerplay as Mumbai finished the first six overs on 45 for 2. But some handy knocks from the likes of Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard took Mumbai to a challenging total which eventually turned out to be just enough in the end.

In the just-concluded season of the IPL, the Super Kings and Mumbai Indians met four times with the latter winning each one of them including the final on Sunday. The win in the final was Mumbai Indians’ third consecutive win over Super Kings in an IPL final.

And with Chennai Super Kings’ struggles against Mumbai Indians showing no signs of coming to an end, former Super Kings spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has come up with an idea that might do the trick for his first IPL team. Following the final, the off-spinner took to Twitter to suggest that from the next season onwards, choosing the winner from a best-of-three format might be the right step. The tweet might also be a dig from Ashwin at his former team as he perhaps made fun of their struggle to beat Mumbai.

“Looked like a 4th for @ChennaiIPL all the way until the last ball..What a final?. May be a best of 3 next time? #ipl19,” wrote Ashwin.

Ravichandran Ashwin‘s connection with Chennai Super Kings goes a long way back. In fact, it was his performance for Chennai Super Kings that made him a household name in the country before he made his India debut.  Ashwin made his debut for the Super Kings in 2009 and helped them win the IPL title in 2010 and 2011.

He stayed with the team till 2015 before the team was suspended for a couple of years. When the suspension ended in 2018, many thought that the Super Kings will buy Ashwin in the auction. However, the Chennai-based outfit sprung a big surprise by signing the likes of Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir although they had signed back quite a number of their former players. Kings XI Punjab had then signed Ashwin. And it looks like Ashwin does not have the same feelings for Super Kings anymore as he posted a cheeky tweet after their loss against Mumbai Indians in the final.

The twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end on Sunday with a thrilling final between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings by 1 run to become the first-ever team to win the IPL four times. It was also Mumbai Indians’ third win over Super Kings in an IPL final.  Batting first, Mumbai scored 149 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Super Kings ended up on 148 for 7.

With the season now done and dusted, here are all the award winners from the twelfth edition of the IPL:

Man-of-the-match of the final – Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah walked away with the Man of the Match trophy for conceding just 14 runs off his four overs in addition to picking up 2 wickets.

“Very happy,” Bumrah said.  “We know finals can be close, so wanted to stay calm. Winning fourth title for Mumbai makes me very happy. Today I was surprisingly very calm. Wasn’t panicking, just focusing on the next ball. Doesn’t help taking extra pressure, instead I back my skills.”

Mumbai Indians stole victory in the last ball of the pinnacle clash as they beat Chennai Super Kings by one run to register their fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) title win at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Following another successful season, Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma credited the whole team including the support staffs for coming out as a unit.

Chasing 150 runs set by Mumbai Indians, Shane Watson powered Chennai to almost home after Rahul Chahar guided Mumbai to a superb comeback in the middle overs. Watson once again fired in the final chipping in with 80 runs before Jasprit Bumrah, and Lasith Malinga bowled two outstanding overs to seal the tie. Previously, the Chennai bowlers did a terrific job to contain Mumbai for 149 runs with Deepak Chahar picking three wickets while Shardul Thakur and Imran Tahir picking two wickets each.

BCCI

Everyone has contributed to this success: Rohit

Speaking at the end of the game, Rohit Sharma admitted they have played some good cricket throughout the season, and this title is the result of that. He also added that everyone from the squad has chipped in at one point of the game including the support staffs. Rohit also made a special mention about his bowlers who have stood up in crunch situations and won them matches.

“Throughout the tournament, we played some good cricket which was the reason we qualified at the top. We planned to split the tournament into two parts, everything we did as a team, we got the rewards for them. We have a squad of 25 players, everyone came in at some stage and did the job; the support-staff as well.

Our bowling, in particular, was excellent, at different stages in the game, the bowlers put their hands up and brought us back. Every bowler who got an opportunity put their hand up, took responsibility and that’s why we got the rewards for it,” Rohit said at the end of the match.

BCCI

Rohit Sharma also added that he backed Lasith Maling for the last over as the veteran Sri Lankan cricketer has been in that stage for a countless number of times. The Mumbai skipper also added that this journey has been a learning curve for him as a skipper and the process will continue.

“Malinga is a champion, he has been doing it for many years for us. I was thinking of Hardik for the final over, but I wanted to back someone who has been in that situation for us before, and Malinga has been there many times. I am learning in every game, every time I take the field,” Rohit concluded.

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings lost an IPL final for the third time against Mumbai Indians as the latter became the first team to win the league four times. Mumbai Indians beat the Super Kings by 1 run to become the most successful team in the history of the league.

Chasing 150, Chennai Super Kings made heavy weather of the chase and eventually ended up on 148 for 7. The Super Kings were comfortably placed at 70 for 1 in the tenth over before losing Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni for just 12 runs. Shane Watson did manage to keep Super Kings in contention with a fighting fifty but departed on the fourth ball of the 20th over when his team needed just 4 from three runs. Lasith Malinga then defended the three runs to power Mumbai to a monumental win.

Earlier in the game, Mumbai Indians scored 149 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. Rohit Sharma’s decision to bat first looked spot on at the start when Quinton de Kock hit Deepak Chahar for three sixes in the third over to set the tone. But the Super Kings struck quickly to remove de Kock and Rohit inside powerplay as Mumbai finished the first six overs on 45 for 2. But some handy knocks from the likes of Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard took Mumbai to a challenging total.

Speaking at the end of the match, MS Dhoni said:

“As a team we had a good season. But we need to go back and reflect. Wasn’t one of those years where we played very good cricket. Middle order never clicked, but somehow we managed. Today was one game we should’ve done slightly better. It was quite a funny game, we were passing the trophy to each other. Both committed mistakes, and eventually the winning team was the one that committed one mistake less. Our bowlers did really well. It was not a 150 wicket, but the bowlers kept us in the hunt. They kept getting wickets when it was really needed. Batting, someone kept chipping in and we kept winning. To be consistent next year, we will have to really think hard. It’s too early to say right now (about next year’s plans). Up next is the World Cup. That’s the first priority. After that, we will chat about CSK. Nothing against the bowlers, but the batsmen could’ve done better. Hopefully yes, we’ll see you next year.”

Mumbai Indians held their nerves in the final over to win their fourth Indian Premier League title as they beat Chennai Super Kings by one run at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Mumbai wins it for the fourth time

Chasing a modest total, Faf du Plessis gave Chennai Super Kings a perfect start. He took on Krunal Pandya and Lasith Malinga scoring 26 runs off 13 balls before Quinton de Kock stumped the South Africa skipper to have Chennai at 36 for one. Since then, Shane Watson and Suresh Raina added 37 runs before Rahul Chahar got the better of Raina (8). Mumbai Indians used the momentum to snick in two more wickets to have 82 for four with MS Dhoni’s runout being the game-changing moment.

BCCI

With 62 needed off the last five overs, Lasith Malinga shelled 20 runs in the 16th over to change the course of the game. Watson who has been lucky throughout the game started to take on the bowlers and eventually brought his half-century. He then took Krunal Pandya for another 20-run over to bring down the equation to 18 runs from 12 balls. But two outstanding over from Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga won it for the Mumbai as they won the match by one run.

Chennai spinners lead the charge

Batting first, Mumbai Indians could manage to post only 149 runs after a flying start. Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock took things off the blokes after winning the toss and electing to bat first. They added 45 runs off just 4.1 overs before a quick bouncer from Shardul Thakur got the top edge off de Kock to MS Dhoni. The departure of the South Africa wicket-keeper produced another wicket as a brilliant knuckleball from Deepak Chahar undid Rohit Sharma.

BCCI

Loing two wickets in 45 runs, Mumbai Indians couldn’t recover as MS Dhoni used his bowlers to perfection. Chennai Super Kings bowlers responded with perfection as Chahar bagged three wickets while Shardul Thakur and Imran Tahir returned with two each. Meanwhile, it was a 25-ball 41 runs knock from Kieron Pollard which helped Mumbai post a challenging total on the board.

All eyes were on MS Dhoni then as Super Kings’ hopes pretty much relied on him. However, the talismanic skipper could not last long and fell prey to a controversial run-out. Dhoni could score just 2 off 8 balls to leave his team reeling at 82 for 4.  On the fourth ball of the 13th over, Hardik Pandya bowled a short delivery to Shane Watson. The Australian allrounder only managed to glove the delivery as the ball went to the left of Lasith Malinga.

The veteran pacer then fired an overthrow at the bowler’s end but the ball only went as far as the mid-off. Dhoni, however, decided to test the fielder only to see Ishan Kishan hitting the bulls eye. There was confusion all around as different angles showed different scenarios. But eventually the umpire gave his decision in Mumbai’s favour.

That temper would fly when Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians lock horns in the ongoing IPL final was very much on the cards.  The Mumbai-Chennai rivalry is arguably the fiercest and most enthralling rivalry in the history of the IPL and the fans could not have asked for a better finale.

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the only two teams to have won the IPL thrice. Mumbai had entered the final after beating the Super Kings in the first qualifier. On the other hand, Super Kings thrashed Delhi Capitals by six wickets in the second qualifier to seal their spot in the final. The ongoing game is the fourth final between Mumbai and Chennai.

The first final between these two teams had taken place in 2010 which Chennai had won to claim their first IPL title. However, Mumbai beat Chennai in 2013 and 2015 to take the upper hand.  The momentum is also in Mumbai’s favour as they have won their last three games.  Chennai, on the other hand, have lost two of their last three games. Moreover, both the teams have already met thrice this season with Mumbai winning on all the occasions comfortably.

However, Super Kings have taken the command in the early period of the game. After Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first, Shardul Thakur gave the defending champions a good start by dismissing the in-form Quinton de Kock for 29 inside the powerplay. De Kock was looking in red-hot form as he dispatched Deepak Chahar for three sixes in the third third over. However, before he could inflict further damage, Thakur sent him back.

De Kock failed to see off a short delivery from Thakur and ended up top-edging it to MS Dhoni. And as soon as Dhoni took the catch, Thakur gave him an animated and heated send-off. In fact, the gesture from Thakur was so bad that even Rohit Sharma was seen objecting to it.

Here is a clip of that send off from Shardul Thakur:

Matthew Hayden, Virender Sehwag, India vs Australia 2019, Gautam Gambhir

Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden has opened up on the factor that differentiate Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. In the first 12 seasons of the lucrative IPL, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have been the most dominating teams by a good distance. Mumbai and Chennai are the only two teams to win 100 or more games in IPL. While Mumbai have won 106, the Super Kings have won 100.

Kolkata Knight Riders are third in the list with 92 wins. What is incredible about the Super Kings’ record is that they have won 100 games despite missing two seasons due to suspension. Moreover, Chennai and Mumbai are the only teams to have won the IPL thrice.

Hayden, nonetheless, is well aware of how the Super Kings are being run. The legendary batsman had played for the franchise for the first three seasons, helping them win one title in 2010. Hayden has opened up on the working structure that separates Chennai and Mumbai outfits as he perhaps took a dig at the latter.

“A very family-oriented (structure), relying on four or five players forms the base of each franchise. The only difference is that Mumbai Indians is run by a corporate structure… They run it like a business and corporations are not cricket heads. It is difficult for corporations to get principles like loyalty and game awareness and things like that, whereas India Cements and Tamil Nadu are a very cricket-focused association with feeder systems through Tamil Nadu Premier League and Tamil Nadu Cricket,” Hayden told Sportstar.

Super Kings, meanwhile, will take on Mumbai Indians in the ongoing season’s final on Sunday. This is the fourth final between these two teams with Chennai winning one and Mumbai winning the remaining two. In the ongoing season, Mumbai have already beaten Super Kings thrice. However ahead of the final,  Hayden said Super Kings will win the clash.

“CSK (will win). Numbers don’t really matter in a final. Neither (team) has played their best cricket this time. In the last couple of games some of Mumbai Indian players like Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma have started to come into form. So, both sides have got their vulnerabilities,”he said.

Subsequently, MS Dhoni went on to lead the franchise with aplomb. Dhoni is one of the most successful captains in the league. Chennai has lifted the title on three occasions and he will seek his fourth title when they will take Mumbai Indians in the final of the league. Dhoni had led Chennai to glory in 2010, 2011 and 2019.

In fact, this is the fourth time when Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians will take on each other in the final of the tournament. Mumbai has won on two occasions whereas Chennai has won once.

On the other hand, MS Dhoni has been in fine form in the recent past. Dhoni had struggled to get going in 2018 however he has turned the tables in 2019. The talisman has scored 404 runs in 11 innings at an average of 103.50. Thus, Dhoni will like to bring his best to the table in the final of the tournament.

In a mouth-watering clash, defending champions Chennai Super Kings will lock horns against Mumbai Indians in the final of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

The upcoming game is the fourth final between Mumbai and Chennai.

Mumbai Indians have played some outstanding cricket throughout this season. Two of their acclaimed stars- Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have played crucial roles and will play a vital role in the pinnacle clash. Speaking to the media on the eve of the tie, Rohit Sharma has cleared that it was on the players to decide their workload throughout the last seven weeks.

IANS

The Mumbai Indians skipper revealed that they had a substantial discussion at the start of the tournament about managing the workload. Rohit Sharma said that it was on the players to take a call on when they need to rest.

“We spoke at the start of the tournament that we will assess each one of them and see where they are at and how they feel about their body as the tournament progresses. It is more of an individual thing than what we decided for them,” Rohit said.

Bumrah and Pandya decided to continue playing: Rohit

Rohit Sharma also added that Jasprit Bumrah feels that it is essential to play games to be in rhythm and the whole management had been in touch with him and Hardik Pandya. Moreover, it was the decision of the players to continue playing for the Mumbai Indians throughout the season. Both Pandya and Bumrah will be a crucial component in India’s lineup when they begin their World Cup campaign in England and Wales.

“Like in Jasprit’s case, he is someone who likes to play games to make sure that he is in good rhythm. We spoke at any given stage, if he feels the need to rest, we were open for it. Our physios have monitored him quite well. There was constant feedback from Jasprit as well. So far there are no issues with either of them — Hardik or Jasprit. It has to come from them and they want to continue playing,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the ongoing IPL season has helped Hardik Pandya regain his form ahead of the marquee tournament. He has been in scintillating form in the ongoing competition scoring 386 runs from 15 games including one fifty and picked 14 wickets.

Yuvraj Singh started the ongoing Indian Premier League on a promising note. In the first game of the season for Mumbai Indians, the southpaw scored a fighting fifty against Delhi Capitals although he could not avoid a defeat for his side. In the following game, he hit three consecutive sixes off Yuzvendra Chahal to show that he still has a lot to offer.

However, his form soon dipped. In the third and fourth game, he managed just 18 and 4 before Mumbai Indians decided to drop him from the playing eleven. Since then Yuvraj has not played a single game this season. The decision, nonetheless, has worked for Mumbai so far as they have made it to the final. The three-time champions will now take on Chennai Super Kings in the final on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma and Yuvraj Singh have known each other for over a decade now. It all started way back in 2007 when Rohit made his India debut. Fast forward to 2019, Rohit has become one of the best batsman in the world while Yuvraj is in the twilight of his illustrious career. In the ongoing year, Rohit and Yuvraj are sharing the dressing room with each other for Mumbai Indians.  There is no doubt that both the batting stalwarts have developed a strong friendship now.

However, it was not at all like this in the early days.  Both the players have lifted the lid on their first interaction. And going by their narration, one can easily say that the first encounter between the Mumbai Indians teammates was not a pleasant one. In a recent interview for MI TV, Yuvraj and Rohit recalled their first meeting. Rohit started it by saying that while Yuvraj is like a big brother to him, the first few experiences were not at all good. Rohit also revealed a story where he was asked by Yuvraj to give up a particular spot in the team bus.

“Yuvi (Yuvraj) to me has always been like a big brother. Although the first few experiences were not good. So, Yuvi has a spot in the bus where he goes and sits. And I was sitting there. That’s where me and Yuvi had sort of .. I will not say argument but we had an eye to eye contact,” Rohit Sharma said.

At the same time, Rohit quickly pointed out that while Yuvraj was not arrogant, there was some attitude in him.

“Not that he is arrogant but he is Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj Singh means attitude and all that,” said Rohit.

Yuvraj, however, was not convinced by Rohit’s version of the story as he revealed his side of the story. The southpaw said that Rohit’s story had too much extra spice, saying:

“I remember when he came into the team and I shook his hand. He tells this story with too much extra spice,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rohit and Yuvraj will be looking for IPL glory when Mumbai Indians take on Chennai Super Kings in this year’s final on Sunday.

Sometimes it just seems the babysitter tag given to Rishabh Pant by Tim Paine is spot on. During India’s tour of Australia, Paine had famously asked Pant to babysit his kids and since then the tag has remained with the India star. And Pant himself is doing little in order to be relieved of that tag. Every now and then one can see him enjoying with the kids of his senior teammates.

Earlier this season of the Indian Premier League, Pant was seen having fun with Shikhar Dhawan‘s son Zoravar at the Eden Gardens. The wicketkeeper-batsman had wrapped a towel around the kid and was tossing him all around. In his latest act with kids, Pant spent some time with Ziva, daughter of his senior India teammate MS Dhoni.

Talking about the game, Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by six wickets to storm into the final of the IPL. Asked to bat first, Delhi Capitals faltered and managed just 147 for 9. Rishabh Pant top-scored with 38 while the other batsmen failed to get going. In reply, Chennai Super Kings chased down the total with 6 wickets in hand and an over to spare.

Super Kings will now take on Mumbai Indians in the final on Sunday in Hyderabad. This is the fourth time Chennai and Mumbai are locking horns in the title-decider. In three finals so far, Chennai have won one while Mumbai have won the last two.

In the ongoing IPL season (IPL 2019), many Indian police have frequently arrested many cricket betting members from various areas.

The present situation of IPL 2019

Meanwhile, the ongoing IPL 2019 is in the final phase. Mumbai Indians (MI) and the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are ready to face each other in the final of this tournament on this Sunday (12th May) night. Both teams have won the IPL trophy for the record three times and both are ready to create a new record. Coming to the IPL 2019 Playoffs, MI was the first team to qualify for the Final after beating CSK by six wickets in the Qualifier 1.

Later, DC advanced to the Qualifier2 after winning their thrilling Eliminator match against SRH by two wickets. However, recently, DC suffered a six-wicket defeat against the defending champions CSK in the Qualifier 2. Chennai Super Kings opener Faf du Plessis has stated that opening the innings for the franchise has helped him grow his game. Faf usually bats in the middle order for the South African team and when he got a chance to bat at the top of the order for Chennai, it helped him expand his game. In fact, Faf du Plessis is a timer of the ball and the powerplay overs are well suited to his style of play in the T20 game.

On the other hand, Faf du Plessis has had a good season for the Chennai Super Kings. The right-hander has amassed 370 runs in the 11 matches of the season at an average of 37. Faf du Plessis also played a crucial knock of 50 runs off 39 balls in the second qualifier against Delhi Capitals. In fact, the Proteas batsman had also scored a fifty in the first qualifier against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2018. Thus, he has shown that he is a big match player.

Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis is in fine form.

“Obviously, in my career, I’ve always batted 3 and 4. So the first time I really got an opportunity to open was with Chennai because that’s where the gap is. Suresh [Raina] has batted No.3 since he was 18 for Chennai, and he’s going to bat there for, I suppose, a few more years. Even [MS] Dhoni sometimes bats at 4 or 5,” the International Cricket Council (ICC) quoted Du Plessis, as saying.

“So the opportunity for me was to open the batting, especially after [Michael] Hussey left. South Africa team, I bat [at] three, it’s probably my best role. It was good for me to just grow my game, just batting different circumstances,” he added.

Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis believes that team batting unit is yet not up to the mark. du Plessis added that the team hasn’t played a lot on the flat tracks. Hence, it is always difficult for their batters to hit the ground running.

The nature of our whole batting line-up is we haven’t been in our best form, because we haven’t been playing on a flat wicket all the time. So, naturally, you need a few more balls to hit the ball middle of the bat. Once we get through that, we generally score quicker,” he said.

“We saw that innings where Watson got 96 — once he gets through the Powerplay, he plays really well. So that’s a real strength of ours just to get through that, and it just frees up all the players,” Du Plessis added.

Faf du Plessis will like to carry the same form going in the World Cup and in the final of the IPL. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians will take on each other in the final of the tournament at Hyderabad on 12th May.

BCCI blackmails Cricket South Africa.

Meanwhile, Ottis Gibson sent a request to CSA chief executive Thabang Moroe and then chief operating officer‚ Naasei Appiah to call back their players for the preparation for World Cup.

CSA reacted to these cases and said that they were not aware about these developments. “That is not valid by any means. We don’t know about such a proposal made to the official,” CSA said in a statement.

On the other hand, England and Australia had called back their players before the beginning of May. In fact, these countries had made it clear in the initial phase. However, it is a different story with South African cricket as they wanted their players to boost their IPL pay.

We do our best to boost our players IPL pay.

“Our comprehension is that, similar to the case with New Zealand, the Windies, etcetera, we as CSA do our best to help our players in boosting their IPL pay. It is just Australia and England who can stand to haul their players out,” CSA added.

Meanwhile, South African players like Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir will play in the Indian Premier League final for Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Furthermore, Kagiso Rabada who is currently the leading wicket-taker with 25 wickets was called back to keep a check on his back injury.

Rohit Sharma has led with aplomb.

Rohit Sharma said while talking on Twitter handler of Mumbai Indians, “When I got to know about captaining Mumbai Indians in 2013, it was so tough and I knew it is not going to be easy. I knew that. Captaining Mumbai Indians has a different challenge. We have seen a lot of tough situations in which most of the teams would have tended to just drift away but this team stayed together when the time was tough. One good thing about MI is there is a lot of encouragement, whether we have lost the game or we have won the game”.

Rohit Sharma added, “You need each other support at the time and every time when you get into those phases of the tournament. So I think I had that. All the eyes are going to be on the Hyderabad’s pitch for the final contest of the Indian Premier League between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Hyderabad’s pitch curator YL Chandrasekhar Rao has stated that it going to be a good sporting track. Thus, we are expected to witness an even contest between bat and ball.

In fact, we have seen that the pitch always plays a key role in the outcome of the match. It is imperative to have a pitch which covers most of the bases. Consequently, it would be great if the final of the tournament will be played on a pitch which will have something in it for all the players.

It is going to be an even track.

Meanwhile, the average score while batting first at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium is 175. Hence, a good contest between two heavyweights of the Indian Premier League will be on the cards.

YL Chandrashekar Rao told TOI on Friday, “I want to succeed once again and we are working on the wicket and also the ground  meet the best of the standards”.

Rao also confirmed that they have two tracks ready for the final of the big event. Furthermore, they are also in the process of getting the third one ready. Hence, it would be interesting to note how the pitch will play on the big day.

“It’s going to be a good wicket. We already have two wickets ready and the third one is being readied,” the 62-year-old Chandrasekhar said.

Meanwhile, the two best teams of the IPL – Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians will take on each other to savour their fourth title in the tournament. Chennai and Mumbai had also finished at the top of the points table.

Both of these teams have played against each other on three occasions in the ongoing season and Mumbai has come on top on each time. Ergo, reigning champions Chennai Super Kings will like to turn the tables on 12th May.

On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings will like to be on their toes against a potent Mumbai Indians side. They haven’t been at their best against Mumbai and MS Dhoni will like to turn the tables. In fact, Chennai Super Kings will take confidence from their win against Delhi Capitals in the second qualifier. Furthermore, Chennai has the experience of playing big matches in the tournament.

Here are the Dream11 Fantasy League Tips:

First of all, it is crucial to select a team which has players who will surely play in the game. As they say in cricket, you don’t score any runs in the dressing room. Similarly, a player who is not playing cannot score points for you. In fact, Dream11 has brought a change in its rule by which you can alter your team even after the toss. Thus, you can pick your team according to the playing XI of both sides.

Secondly, it is pivotal to pick the right combination of captain and vice-captain. A captain gets twice the points whereas the deputy of the team will 1.5 times the points. Thus, it is imperative to select the big in-form players as your respective captain and vice-captain.

It is also crucial to get top order batsmen in the team as they are likely to score the major chunk of the score. Furthermore, it is pivotal to check the pitch conditions and select the team accordingly.

In fact, one can take a gamble of selecting a player who has less chance of succeeding in big leagues. Thus, that particular player has less chance of getting selected by other users. Consequently, if that player’s fires at all cylinders then it can be a big bonus.

Chennai Super Kings Probable XI: Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Imran Tahir.

Mumbai Indians Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Surya Kumar Yadav, Evin Lewis, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah.

Pitch Report: The Hyderabad pitch is known to favour both batsmen and bowlers. Thus, it is going to be a contest between bat and ball. The spinners are also going to come into action in the all-important clash.

Injury update: Kedar Jadhav is ruled out of the tournament.

With this six wickets win over Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings have registered their 100th victory in the history of IPL. They are the second team to achieve this rare feat after three-time champions Mumbai Indians. While Mumbai touched the landmark feat 174 matches, Chennai took ten games less to tally the same feat. Interestingly, they are only two teams to win the Indian Premier League thrice so far. However, one side will leapfrog the other in the number of titles won.

Kolkata Knight Riders, who lost the track midway in the season to bow out of the tournament follows Chennai to be third in the list of most wins in IPL. They have so far won 92 matches and will look to achieve the milestone next year. Royal Challengers Bangalore (83) and Kings XI Punjab (80) completes the top five.

Chennai Super Kings vs Delhi Capitals

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bounced back in style to beat confident Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets to set up a final date with Mumbai Indians for the fourth time at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on May 12 (Sunday).

Chasing a modest target and with dew settling in, Chennai Super Kings always had the advantage by their side. The openers – Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis took some time focusing on ones and twos before du Plessis took Ishant Sharma for 15 runs in the sixth over to finish the powerplays at 42 runs for no loss. The South African skipper has something for the powerplays as he murdered the Delhi Capitals bowling giving time to Shane Watson to settle. They kept up the momentum taking 22 runs off the next two overs to make the run chase look easy. Hovering at 72 for no loss from nine overs, the veteran duo of Chennai focused on rotating the strike while the odd boundaries kept coming.

In the process, du Plessis brought his 12th IPL fifty as Watson didn’t lag freeing his arms slowly. But Faf du Plessis holed out to Keemo Paul deep square-leg in an attempt to hit Trent Boult for a six. Although de Plessis departed, Watson continued to wreck havoc bringing his half-century taking Chennai Super Kings to 108 in the 12th over. Although Delhi chipped in with two quick wickets – Watson and Suresh Raina, Chennai sailed home safely to progress to the finals.

Chennai bowlers rise to the occasion

Previously, Chennai Super Kings bowler did a fantastic job to contain the Delhi Capitals batters who have been in fabulous touch off late. The Capitals lost wickets at regular intervals as they managed to post only 147 runs from their 20 overs. Last match hero Prithvi Shaw went back early thanks to MS Dhoni’s outstanding DRS call. Shikhar Dhawan followed soon after setting his eyes in to reel at 37 for two. Ravindra Jadeja then got the better of Colin Munro who started to look dangerous scoring 27 off 24 balls.

The early wickets took Delhi Capitals away from the game despite Rishabh Pant‘s valiant efforts. The southpaw chipped in 38 runs – the highest score, but never looked in his usual touch. Chennai Super Kings continued to chip in wickets from the other end before Deepak Chahar got Pant out in the 19th over. Struggling at 125 for eight, some good strikes from Trent Boult and Ishant Sharma helped them post 147 runs.
