Delhi Capitals (DC) off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin congratulated Mumbai Indians on winning their fifth title in Dubai. He also praised BCCI for making the IPL happen and for its smooth conduct of the tournament.

Mumbai Indians on Tuesday won their fifth IPL title, and second in a row, by defeating Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets. Trent Boult was adjudged the Man of the Match for his 3/30. MI has beaten DC four times in IPL 2020.

It wasn’t our night!!: Ravichandran Ashwin

Mumbai has been the most dominant side this season. They finished on top of the points table in the league stage, and never lost two matches in a row. On the other hand, Delhi won 7 out of their first 9 matches but then lost 4 on a trot. They made it to the finals beating Bangalore and Hyderabad. However, Rohit Sharma’s side was too strong for the first-time finalists.

Ravichandran Ashwin took to Twitter to express a bit of himself. He feels it wasn’t DC’s night and acknowledged Mumbai as the deserving winners. The off-spinner believes that MI was clinical throughout the season.

The 34-year-old also praised the BCCI and the IPL members for successfully conducting the tournament for almost two months amid the difficult situation created by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ashwin wrote on Twitter, “It wasn’t our night!! @DelhiCapitals Well done @mipaltan, deserved winners and so clinical through the tournament. @ImRo45@ShreyasIyer15 Last but definitely not the least, it was a terrific effort by the @IPL @BCCI to pull off a tournament like this during these tough times.”

Ashwin was a vital cog in the Delhi bowling attack as he picked 13 wickets at an economy of 7.66. The right-hander bowled astutely in the powerplay and choked the opposition batting in the middle-overs. Ravichandran Ashwin, who had won two IPL titles with CSK, was playing his first season with Delhi.

He will be touring Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The series commences on 17th December in Adelaide with a day-night Test match.
