While Devdutt Padikkal may have expected some game time in the IPL for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the left-hander wouldn’t have thought that he would end up as the leading run-scorer of the team.

With the help of 5 half-centuries, Padikkal scored 473 runs- 7 more than the captain, Virat Kohli, and 19 ahead of the charismatic, AB de Villiers. Such was Padikkal’s impact for RCB that he outshined his batting partner and an accomplished international opener, Aaron Finch.

Padikkal, who warmed the bench for the entire season last year, was picked in the team from the first match this season instead of Parthiv Patel. The youngster struck 3 half-centuries in his first 4 games, and consistently provided solid starts to the team.

“The experience has been amazing, it was an incredible opportunity to play in the IPL alongside some of the greats of the game. Definitely, my debut for RCB is the moment I cherish the most this season because I’ve dreamt of that for a long time,” Padikkal added.
