Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said that Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Mohit Sharma was one of the reasons his team reached the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Aakash Chopra highlighted that Mohit Sharma made a memorable comeback in the game with his bowling performance.

Mohit Sharma was one of the standout performers for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023. The right-arm pacer picked up 27 wickets in 14 matches with an impressive average of 13.37 and an economy of 8.17. He finished as the joint second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament behind Mohammed Shami.

He Has A Lot Of Fire Within Him – Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra praised Gujarat Titans team management for recognizing the fire in Mohit Sharma.

“Mohit Sharma’s season was extremely important for this team. This player was almost about to quit cricket types because he was this team’s net bowler. A player who has played for India and played in the World Cup was ready to become a net bowler for a team,” Aakash Chopra said.

“It means he has a lot of fire within him and he is with you if you recognize that fire. This was incredible. The fire kept on burning. He first became a net bowler for the team and then he was picked in the team at base price. People were asking why Mohit Sharma but nobody has been able to hit this Mohit,” he added.

The veteran pacer was part of the Hardik Pandya-led team as a net bowler in the IPL 2022 after going unsold in the auction. The Ahmedabad-based franchise bought him for his base price of Rs 50 lakh at the IPL 2023 mini-auction.

He Has Been Absolutely Outstanding – Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra said that Mohit Sharma was unplayable in the death overs throughout the tournament. The cricketer-turned-commentator said that Mohit’s performance wouldn’t be defined by his last two balls and added that he kept the Titans alive in the final match till the end.

“He bowls at the back end of a T20 game but no one is able to touch him. He picked up five wickets against Mumbai. This boy is different. He goes to Chennai and troubles them, he did it everywhere. In fact, even in the final, if we leave the last two balls, this player only had kept the Gujarat Titans in the match,” he further stated.

“He has been absolutely outstanding. The truth is that what defines you – it’s not how you die but how you lived. Everyone gets hit. I am not bothered too much about how it ended but the amazing things he did before that, the wickets he picked up – absolute class,” he concluded.

The 34-year-old nailed four perfect yorkers on the first four balls of the last over of the match. He conceded just three runs off the first four balls while defending 13 runs. However, Ravindra Jadeja smashed six and four off the last two deliveries to help his team seal their fifth IPL title.
