Aakash Chopra has highlighted the significant role played by Rashid Khan in the success of the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023. The Afghan spinner proved to be a crucial asset for the team, delivering exceptional performances throughout the tournament.

Rashid Khan emerged as one of the top performers in the IPL, claiming 27 wickets with an economy rate of 8.23. His outstanding performance earned him the third spot in the race for the Purple Cap, narrowly missing out on the top spot held by Mohammad Shami and finishing just behind Mohit Sharma due to a slightly higher economy rate.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra analyzed the reasons behind the Gujarat Titans’ impressive campaign in IPL 2023. He particularly focused on the impact of Rashid Khan, stating, “It is commonly said ‘Rashid Khan, we say Rashid can.’ He had one off day in the final match, where he conceded 44 runs in three overs, and Gujarat could not defend their total. But overall, Rashid Khan holds all the aces.”

Chopra noted that Rashid Khan was assigned a new role this season, with the Titans using him even in the powerplay overs. He remarked, “Last season was decent, but this year, he took it to another level. He picked up a remarkable number of wickets. He also bowled an over in the first six overs, which was not the case previously. He executed that role exceptionally well this year.”

Although Rashid Khan didn’t get many opportunities to bat due to the Impact Player rule, Chopra expressed surprise at his ability to maintain his mystery with the ball.

He explained, “He didn’t have many chances with the bat due to the Impact Player rule, but when he did bat, he scored an impressive 79 not out. His bowling performance has reached new heights this year. It is truly astonishing because eventually, every player’s mystery is unraveled. Even Sunil Narine’s mystery was eventually solved.”

In IPL 2023, Rashid Khan displayed his batting prowess by scoring 130 runs, including a blistering unbeaten 79 against the Mumbai Indians, at a remarkable strike rate of 216.66.

While he was consistent with the ball throughout the tournament, he encountered a tough day in the final, where he was unable to contain the opposition’s batting lineup.
