Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Sai Sudharsan was effusive in his admiration for skipper Hardik Pandya and his leadership qualities following the franchise’s back-to-back IPL final appearances.

Sai Sudharsan was a TNPL star a year ago, hitting 336 runs in 10 games for the Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) with an average of 48 and a strike rate of 140.58.

In the IPL 2023 final, Sai Sudharsan scored an incredible 96 runs off 47 deliveries. Together with the captain, he put on an electrifying 81-run stand that helped GT reach an astounding 214/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Sudharsan lavished accolades on Hardik Pandya in an exclusive chat with TOI.

“A leader like Hardik Pandya is a boon, He gives you the platform and the confidence to express yourself. He makes you feel very comfortable in your own skin, regardless of your performance on the day. Even in my last innings ( Qualifier 1), I missed a few balls that I ought to have connected. But he gave me the confidence that I can still hit the big ones and do the job for the team,” Sai Sudharsan said.

“The preparation was done entirely before the tournament” – Sai Sudharsan

Sai Sudharsan, a batter for the Gujarat Titans (GT), agreed that the team’s performance was greatly influenced by its preseason training and by the players’ understanding of their respective duties.

“The preparation was done entirely before the tournament, Ten days before IPL started, we had preparatory camps where we learned more about ourselves and got clarity on what our role in the team is going to be and how best we can contribute,” Sai Sudharsan added.

Sai Sudharsan was also a member of GT’s championship team the previous season. This season, the 21-year-old upped his game, scoring 362 runs in eight games at an average of 51.71 and a strike rate of 141.41.

Gujarat was denied the opportunity to become only the third club to win back-to-back IPL titles after a heartbreaking last-ball defeat to CSK in the final on May 29.
