The impact player rule, introduced in the IPL 2023, aimed to add more excitement and unpredictability to the game. Under this rule, each team was allowed to designate two players as impact players before the start of the match. These designated players had the ability to earn double the runs or wickets they accumulate during the match. This rule encouraged teams to strategically select their impact players to maximize their potential contributions to the game.
