Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that if Rohit Sharma keeps putting on poor performances like he has the past two Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons, the Mumbai Indians (MI) may reconsider their relationship with him.

MI, who finished last in the illustrious league’s final season, recovered to place third in IPL 2023. While playing in the competition, Rohit, who had a second straight bad season with the bat, appeared far from his normal fluid self.

In a video posted to his YouTube account, Chopra discussed Mumbai’s IPL 2023 campaign and predicted that Rohit’s position with the team would be in jeopardy: “Rohit didn’t really come to the party. Although he captains very well, the franchise might think that it’s not turning out to be a fruitful partnership if he does not do well consistently as he has an extremely important position in the batting order.”

Aakash Chopra, a former Indian opener, noted that the Mumbai Indians captain frequently lost his wicket after getting off to a good start: “This has become a sort of pattern and it is not a good thing. He started very slowly, then was dismissed for zero twice in a row, and it seemed it would turn out very badly. Then he did score a few runs for sure but we saw quite a few times that he got out while trying to play a big shot.”

In IPL 2023, Rohit scored 332 runs at a dismal average of 20.75. He only had two half-centuries, with 65 being his best.

“He going through extremely poor form this year”- Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra, a well-known cricket analyst, recently stated that Rohit Sharma’s performance in the IPL 2023 has been subpar and far from his typical brilliant strokeplay. Sharma has been in particularly poor form this year, according to Aakash Chopra.

“The quality that he possesses, when your close your eyes and think about Rohit Sharma – short ball and he hits a pull into the stands, he will play an extremely beautiful drive or hit a six against spin while standing at his position – these pictures come to your mind, but we saw Rohit Sharma going through extremely poor form this year,” Aakash Chopra said.

In IPL 2022, Rohit scored 268 runs at an even lower average of 19.14. The elegant batter hasn’t averaged 30 in any of the last seven IPL seasons and may need to be more consistent to earn a spot at the top of the Mumbai Indians’ order.
