IPL 2023: "Jofra Archer Is A Huge Name But He Hardly Played..." - Aakash Chopra

Mumbai Indians (MI) couldn’t dictate the terms in IPL 2023 despite having a stellar batting lineup. The injury to Jofra Archer had a huge impact on MI’s campaign. Jofra Archer took only 2 wickets in 5 matches and was taken to the cleaners by the batters.

There is uncertainty regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the next season 2024 as the pacer hasn’t recovered from his back injury. It won’t be wrong to say that MI had a pretty good decent season as qualifying for playoffs wasn’t easy in the absence of Jofra and Bumrah.

MI skipper Rohit Sharma looked in two minds whether to attack or defend as a result he went into the shell. The billion people would be hoping that the batter decimates the mighty Aussies in the WTC 2021-23 final.

MI will have to do something about their bowling- Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra was seen speaking on his YouTube channel. Aakash Chopra stated that the MI needs to tweak their bowling lineup and said that MI needs to have a bunch of bowlers present in the of injuries.

“If we look at the way forward, they will have to do something about their bowling. While they invest a lot in youngsters, I feel they will have to change their auction strategy slightly and will have to strengthen their bowling because the batting got you to this stage this time, but it will not happen every time,” said Aakash Chopra.

“If you don’t have the bowling to back it up, you will remain far from the trophy. No matter how good your batting might be, eventually, it’s a game of bat and ball. The ball is important and if you don’t bowl well, how will you go forward?” he added.

MI have struggled a lot with injuries- Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra stated that MI should look ahead of Jasprit Bumrah as there is uncertainty regarding his back injury and was quite vocal with Jofra Archer (elbow injury) as well. Aakash Chopra heaped praise on Akash Madhwal & Piyush Chawla as the duo performed exceptionally well.

“Whether it is fast bowling or spin, they really have to look elsewhere, because what will happen if Bumrah remains injured? Jofra Archer is a huge name but he hardly played, there are too many injuries. Jason Behrendorff is okay – T20, new ball okay but then what. They will have to leave Jordan,” said Aakash Chopra.

“Jhye Richardson was a very good pick but he got injured, so what should be done about him? This team has struggled more with injuries. Barring Akash Madhwal, no other shining star was seen in the Indian fast bowling. In spin, barring Piyush Chawla, no one else was seen. Fast bowling and spin – both need an injection to cure them,” he added.
