IPL 2023: “He Played A Huge Role In Me Getting A Chance This Season" - Atharva Taide Credits Brad Haddin For IPL Success With PBKS

Atharva Taide, a Punjab Kings hitter, commended former Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin for believing in him and preparing him for the conditions that the IPL would require.

Taide had a breakthrough season for the Punjab Kings in the IPL, where his efforts in the second half of the campaign helped him secure a spot in the starting XI. Taide, a proficient left-handed batter with all the tools in the book, fit in perfectly with a hitting lineup that featured firepower across the board.

Atharva Taide, who is only 23 years old, has already shown potential in the IPL, scoring 186 runs in just seven innings. He was instrumental in helping his side win games and had the option to bat third.

“Brad Haddin always backed me” – Atharva Taide

Atharva Taide, a young Vidarbha hitter, has credited former Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin for helping him prepare for the difficult situations of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Taide, a wicketkeeper-batsman, claimed Haddin believed in him and worked with him extensively on his game.

“Brad Haddin played a huge role in me getting a chance this season. He always backed me. He told me how I bat is perfect for PBKS, and everybody around me can play their shots. I have to be that one guy who can control & anchor the innings,” Atharva Taide said while speaking with sports commentator Dr Yash Kashikar on his chat show Say Yash To Sports.

“He told me that when I start my innings in nets, I have to start as if I am starting in a game. That’s where you build your habits. Because in IPL you don’t get a lot of net sessions. There is a lot of travelling. So you play on different pitches. So one game you play in Delhi, and the next game you are playing in Dharamshala,” Atharva Taide added.

“So two contrasting wickets, where the bounce and pace are different. You have to adapt in only one net session. So you have to bat in the nets as if you are batting in a match, and can’t go and bash everything. You have to challenge yourself as if you are batting in a game. That’s what I’ll keep with myself wherever I’ll go, whichever format I will play. Because that’s how I am going to get better as a player,” Atharva Taide concluded.

Punjab had a strong roster, particularly in the late middle order, which included Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma, Shahrukh Khan, and Sam Curran, as well as Shikhar Dhawan at the top.
