Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder Kyle Mayers opened up about the fight between Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He said that being aggressive is always good as it lifts the team up.

Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq were the center of the attraction during the recently concluded IPL 2023 as they engaged in a heated altercation during the game between Lucnkow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore, which saw many getting involved in it.

The whole saga started when during the LSG’S innings there was a heated exchange of words between Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq during the game. The duo had some harsh words to say to each other during the game. While many thought that was an on-field tiff, the matter extended even to the post-match handshakes as well.

Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq had to go at each other and were separated by their teammates. Amidst all this, LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir stepped in too and then the spotlight was on him and Kohli as they too had a verbal spat.

What caught the attention of many was when Virat Kohli was having a word with Kyle Mayers, Gautam Gambhir interrupted and took the West Indies all-rounder away with him. This ignited another tiff between the two former Indian cricketers.

Kyle Mayers shedding light on the same aggressive nature on the field shows courage and the willingness to get your team over the line.

Speaking to Fan Code, he explained: “It’s great, sometimes you need to get at your opposition, anything you can possibly get out of the game. Being aggressive is always good, it shows courage and the willingness to get your team over the line.”

Any bowler would want to dismiss Virat Kohli – Kyle Mayers

Kyle was also asked to pick one most ‘precious’ wicket between Kohli and Rohit Sharma and the West Indies star all-rounder picked Virat.

He added: “I think Kohli, any bowler would want to dismiss Kohli, the best player across all three formats,” he said.

Kyle Mayers is currently playing the T20I series for West Indies against India. He will be next seen in action when both teams take on each other in a second match on Sunday (6th August).

Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev opened up about the fight between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He said that it was painful for him to see two of his favourites behaving in such a manner.

The tiff between Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq along with Gautam Gambhir is still fresh in the minds of many. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter was engaged in a heated exchange of words during the game and even after that.

Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq exchanged some words with each other on the field and then the same continued during the post-match handshakes as well. Both the players had to go at each other and were separated from their teammates.

As Virat Kohli was having a go at Naveen-ul-Haq, LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir then interrupted too which saw two greats of Indian cricket getting involved in that too. They had some harsh words to say to each other and were the main talking about.

1983 World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev finally shared his verdict on the incident and said that BCCI needs to groom players as good citizens as well. Speaking to The Week, he said:

“They (BCCI) have to groom players to be good citizens also. What happened between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli in the IPL, it was painful for me.”

Kapil Dev admitted that although sportsmen can lose their cool but it was difficult for him to understand how Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir behaved in that manner.

He elaborated: “My two most important people―Virat Kohli, one of the top batters in the world; Gambhir is now a member of Parliament―how can they behave in such a manner? But sportsmen do lose their mind, from Pelé to Don Bradman to all people.”

For their poor behaviour, the trio of Naveen-ul-Haq, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli were fined heavily by the BCCI after the game.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has bid adieu to their head coach Andy Flower just after a few months of the IPL 2023. The former English team coach was part of the team since the team made his debut in the league.

Andy Flower had a decent outing as the coach of the Lucknow Super Giants as the under him team reached playoffs in both seasons but failed to win the title. The Sanjiv Goenka-led franchise had a two-year contract with the former Zimbabwe cricketer.

Lucknow Super Giants confirmed the development on their social media accounts as they post a heartfelt message for Andy Flower, saying that this is not a goodbye as he will always be part of their family.

IPL 2024: IPL Brand Value Skyrockets To USD 3 Billion – Reports

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has reached new heights as the brand value of the league has skyrocketed to USD 3 billion as per the brand valuation study by Global Investment Bank Houlihan Lokey, Inc, reported TOI.

The brand value of the IPL has increased to 80% from 2022, which was 1.8 billion. The reports also revealed that the business enterprise value of the league now stands at USD 15.4 billion, which also has seen an 80% hike from the last year.

As per the report, the main reason behind the surge in the brand value of the IPL was due to the media rights deal with Viacom and Star. The IPL media rights have grown from 18% in 2008 and are expected to go to 196% by the end of 2027.

Senior Vice President of the Houlihan Lokey, Inc said that IPL has established itself as a hugely lucrative sports league. He confirmed the development while speaking to TOI:

Besides the exponential growth in brand and business enterprise valuation of the IPL and the franchisees, it is interesting to note the prominent shift towards acceptance of digital platforms for sports consumption.

“This shift is evident in the remarkable viewership numbers witnesse7d during the current season on Viacoml8’s OTT platform, JioCinema. However, Disney Star’s television viewing numbers were also very encouraging this year, achieving record levels.”

The Delhi Capitals (DC) have made changes to their coaching staff following their poor performance in the latest edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Delhi Capitals announced on Thursday that they would not retain Ajit Agarkar and Shane Watson for the upcoming edition of the tournament.

The Delhi-based franchise finished in ninth place in the 10-team points table in the IPL 2023. The Capitals managed to win just five games out of 14 this season. Veteran opener David Warner led the team in place of regular skipper Rishabh Pant, who was ruled out of the tournament due to injuries.

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he said: “When 21 were required off 14 balls when Rayudu got us to that position, I think MS Dhoni might have felt bad when he was dismissed on the first ball he faced. He would have finished the match. Given his skillset, he would have finished the game in style.

But when he was dismissed, probably he might have felt that ‘I couldn’t fulfil my responsibility.’ He might have felt ‘What if we lose from here having come so close’. We all knew Jadeja was there, but still.”

In such situations whenever he went in, the crowd used to welcome Dhoni. In a way, he may have felt hurt. Any player for that matter may have had that pressure. But he didn’t complain about it even though he put out a tweet”, Kasi Viswanathan said.

Kasi Viswanathan also said that Ravindra Jadeja has high respect for Dhoni. He also noted how Jadeja dedicated CSK’s victory in IPL 2023 to Dhoni.

“It’s all part and parcel of the game. After the last game, people saw videos online and assumed I’m pacifying Jadeja, but it wasn’t like that. I was talking to him about the match, what he did. We didn’t have any other discussion.

Everyone knows in a team environment, what happens in the dressing room, no one is privy to it outside. We don’t have any problem. He always had high respect for Dhoni. Atharva Taide, a young Vidarbha hitter, has credited former Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin for helping him prepare for the difficult situations of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Taide, a wicketkeeper-batsman, claimed Haddin believed in him and worked with him extensively on his game.

“Brad Haddin played a huge role in me getting a chance this season. He always backed me. He told me how I bat is perfect for PBKS, and everybody around me can play their shots. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Naveen-ul-Haq opened up about his fight with Virat Kohli during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He said that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter shouldn’t have said things to him and it was he who started the fight.

Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq were engaged in a heated exchange of words during the game between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Their tiff was one of the main highlights of the tournament.

The duo even took a dig at each other after the game on social media, with Naveen-ul-Haq taking a dig at Virat Kohli with his sweet mangoes jibe after RCB’s loss to other teams. Even Kohli praised other team players after their performances against LSG.

Naveen-ul-Haq said that Virat Kohli started the fight as he didn’t utter the word. He said that he never losses his cool but if someone will say anything to him he won’t back off. Speaking to BBC Pashto, he narrated the incident:

“He shouldn’t have said all those things during the match and after it. I didn’t started the fight. After the match, when we were shaking hands, Virat Kohli started the fight. When you will look at the fines, you will understand, who started the fight. I just want to say one thing I generally don’t sledge anyone, and even if I do it I would say it to the batters only when I am bowling because I am a bowler. In that match, I didn’t utter a single word. I didn’t sledged anyone.

“Players, who were there they know how I dealt with the situation. I never lost my temper, when I was batting or after the match. What I did after the match is can be seen by everyone. I was just shaking hands and then he (Kohli) caught my hand forcefully and I am also human being and I reacted. If someone is saying something to me I won’t back off. I have had it since I started playing the U-16 for Afghanistan in 2010. I never badmouth anyone but if anyone does that to me I don’t stay silent. I give it back. You can call it wrong but that’s how it is. Be it a young player from the opposition or a senior team member, be it in a club match, playing for Afghanistan, or in the IPL, I play the cricket match with same intensity and I would back off when someone says something to me.”

After the fight with Virat Kohli, Naveen-ul-Haq faced backlash on social media and even crowds at Stadiums teased him with Kohli-Kohli chants.

Naveen-ul-Haq said that it didn’t affect him as he wanted his performances to do the talking. He admitted that he didn’t want to drag the issue bug when Kohli took a dig at him, he couldn’t resist himself. He said:

“It didn’t affected me at all. I know how to shut crtics mouth. I don’t have to gave it back to the 80,000 people, I was just focusing on my cricket, I had trust in my abilities and wanted my performance to do the talking. Social media was on fire but I told myself that if I have reached at this level with my cricket than I can continue playing the game after the incident as well.

Sudharsan missed the final league game against RCB and the Qualifier 1 against CSK, and then later played the Eliminator against MI and the final against CSK. Against CSK in the final, he played a stellar knock of 96 runs in 47 balls and looked as if he was in beast mode.

“I ended up playing dot balls and doing unwanted things. So it was more about game sense and tactical than technical. So I focused on that,” said B Sai Sudharsan

“In practice, I tried to create situations with tight fields and practised how to rotate singles off good balls and tight lengths so that when a bad ball is there, I could hit for a boundary,” he added.

Learning and playing domestic cricket has given us adaptability – Sai Sudharsan

Sudharsan gave the credit to domestic cricket for his resurgence in IPL 2023. Sudharsan pointed out that the important thing to thrive in the marquee tournament IPL is adaptation.

“Learning and playing domestic cricket has given us adaptability. Confidence of a decent season in domestic cricket helped in this year’s IPL,” said B Sai Sudharsan.

“I think the important thing is adaptation. We play in different conditions, states, climates. That is helping us in the IPL. We played in Delhi, Mumbai. It was easier during the IPL,” he added.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Devon Conway revealed how cups of chai and red bull kept him charged up during the rain-affected final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad. He said that batting coach Micheal Hussey told him to drink red bull and he kept himself switched on because rain breaks made him unsettled.

Chennai Super Kings were crowned as the winners of the IPL 2023 as they thumped Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets in the final of the IPL 2023 to bag their 5th title. They displayed a magnificent effort with the bat that saw them win the game on the last ball of the match to give spectators a moment to cherish.

A game, which extended over three days due to rain, saw many breathtaking performances and one among them came from the bat of Devon Conway. The CSK opener played a blinder at the top of the order. But after that Ravindra Jadeja ignited the hopes of CSK’s fans as he smashed six on the penultimate ball and then when 4 was needed off the ball, the all-rounder guided it to the boundary and won the game for his side to win their fifth IPL title.

Devon Conway opened up about the final and how he kept himself mentally in the game due to rain delays. He recalled how Micheal Hussey told him to have a can of Red Bull before stepping into the field. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, he said:

“Very unique (three-day match) – an emotional rollercoaster. I had many cups of chai just to keep myself going that late at night when we were all waiting during the rain break, not knowing how many overs we’d get in our chase. It was a little unsettling,”

“Just before going in to bat, Mike Hussey [batting coach] told me, “Mate, think you want a can of Redbull to stay awake?” It was hard to stay mentally switched on, given how late it was. So I had a can of Redbull to get sharp and awake again. It ensured I was switched on from the first ball.”

IPL 2023: “It was actually quite cool to finish the game,” says Devon Conway on Ravindra Jadeja’s finish

Devon Conway further talked about the finish of the game. He said that it was exciting to see Ravindra Jadeja winning the game for CSK and they celebrated till the next morning. He added:

“It was actually quite cool to finish the game that way, because we’d never experienced something like that. Jaddu [Ravindra Jadeja] hitting ten off two to win it the way he did made it even more exciting and the boys went on to celebrate the win well into the night and early morning.”

Devon Conway was the leading run-getter for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023. He played some staggering knocks. In the 16 innings, he scored 672 runs at a strike rate of 139.70 to go with 6 half-centuries.

During a conversation with News18 CricketNext, Thakur reflected on his debut season, discussing his experience working under the captaincy of KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya, as well as sharing the dressing room with the legendary Gautam Gambhir, who served as the mentor for LSG.

Thakur began his IPL journey under the leadership of KL Rahul but found his stride when Krunal Pandya took charge due to Rahul’s thigh injury. The change in leadership allowed Thakur to display his skills in all three phases of the game. I Was Very Lucky To Share The Room With Gautam Sir: Yash Thakur

The dressing room atmosphere created by the LSG team management, including mentor Gautam Gambhir, played a significant role in Thakur’s development. Yash Thakur highlighted the team’s united approach and their determination to win the trophy rather than simply participating in the tournament.

“Before the tournament, when we reached the 10 days camp, the first line said by a coach “We are here to win the trophy and we are not here to just participate. How can we can win the trophy that’s what we have to think. From thereon we were charged up, however, there were some ups and downs, we lost a couple of close matches which we would have won but we lost them.”

“We always stuck together as a team and the message in the camp was to win the trophy. I was very lucky to share the dressing room with GG sir (Gautam Gambhir). “He made sure be it an international or domestic player everyone is equal in the team. The atmosphere he created in the team was commendable – how can we work out our plans, how can we bounce back – we were like a family.”

There is no need for a flashback, it was an argument between two individuals that happened on the cricket field. If it had happened outside, you would have called it a fight, this was just two individuals who wanted to win for their team.

“I will just say this and not elaborate much, and I will say what I did, which I will endorse as I did for a person who was completely right in that match. If I felt Naveen Ul-Haq did nothing wrong, it was my responsibility to stand with him. If my teammate is wrong, I will never stand with him.”

“When Mahi bhai was batting, the entire crowd turned yellow and that motivated me to do well. I decided I would not let him score even a single boundary off my bowling,” said Chetan Sakariya.

Chetan Sakariya revealed how he added variations in his bowling and gave the credit to Mohit Sharma and said that he learnt cutters from Jaydev Unadkat. Chetan Sakariya though wanted to increase his speed by at least 5 km/hr to outclass the batter.

“I think I thrive bowling on slow wickets. We had seven games in Delhi and also games in Chennai and Lucknow with slow pitches. When I was new, I just had a swing. But I remember I worked on my variations by looking at Mohit bhai (Mohit Sharma) who had done well for CSK,” he added.

“I also learned a lot about cutters from Jaydev bhai. I feel I learn quickly and grasp well what senior players tell me. I would like to add more skills to my bowling and I want to be at least 5 kmph quicker. I want to ensure that I don’t lose control while doing these changes and I am motivated to ensure I achieve these goals soon,” he added.

IPL 2023: “He Was Bought For Around 13.5 Crores” – Aakash Chopra Slams Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Strategy In Acquiring Harry Brook

Aakash Chopra, a former Indian opener, questioned Sunrisers Hyderabad’s decision to purchase Harry Brook at the IPL 2023 auction.

Brook was purchased by SRH for a staggering 13.25 crore. The English slugger, though, had a disappointing season in the most recent Indian Premier League. Despite completing an undefeated century against the Kolkata Knight Riders, he only managed 190 runs overall in 11 innings.

Aakash Chopra reminisced on some of the high-profile purchases and their performances in the IPL 2023 in a video posted to his YouTube account. In reference to Brook, he said: “Harry Brook was bought for around 13.5 crores. Where did you think he will bat when you acquired him? You should have thought that he will bat at the top of the order because his numbers against spin are extremely ordinary, and he would have to play a lot of spin in the middle overs in India.”

Aakash Chopra, a former Indian opener, noted that Sunrisers Hyderabad had to bat the English batter in the lower middle order at the beginning of the competition: “So you had to try to bat him up the order but you couldn’t do that. You started with batting him down the order because you picked Mayank Agarwal, already had Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi is also a top-order batter, and Aiden Markram cannot play below No. 4.”

“Nicholas Pooran performed that extremely well” – Aakash Chopra

On the other hand, Aakash Chopra commended the Lucknow Super Giants’ decision-making process in regard to the acquisition of Nicholas Pooran:

“I liked Nicholas Pooran’s purchase in this scenario because Nicholas Pooran was picked with the sole thinking that he will bat at the death. He was bought for 16 crores, was very expensive, but there was a clarity of thought,” Aakash Chopra said.

“They didn’t want to play him at No. 3, 4, or 5 but at the death. He is also the kind of a player who can play there. They gave him one role, and, in my opinion, he performed that extremely well,” Aakash Chopra added.

In 15 innings of IPL 2023, Pooran smashed 358 runs with an incredible strike rate of 172.94. In LSG’s away game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the left-hander hit a match-winning 15-ball half-century.
