Joe Root

England batter Joe Root achieved a special milestone as he became the first batter from his country to score 1000 World Cup runs. Overall, the right-hander became the 28th batter in the history of the game to achieve the feat.

Joe Root achieved the feat in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 game against Pakistan. The 44th match of the tournament is taking place between England and Pakistan at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Joe Root has oozed his class in Kolkata as he has batted magnificently well and has put his team in the driver’s seat. The right-hander was short of runs coming into the game against England. However, he has looked settled in the ongoing game and is batting well.

Joe Root slammed a vital half-century, which is his third in the tournament. He has played some crisp shots along with Ben Stokes, who has smashed a vital half-century as well. During the course of his innings, the right-hander crossed 1000 runs in the World Cups. The right-hander would be hoping to convert it into a big ton and end the tournament in high.

Joe Root’s poor form was one of the main reasons behind England’s torrid run in the tournament. He recently went past Graham Gooch to become the leading run-scorer of England at the World Cup. So far he has played  26 matches in the tournament. He also has smashed three centuries.

Jonny Bairstow is also on the list with 747 runs whereas Ben Stokes is next with over 730 runs. Ian Bell is last on the list with 718 runs to his name from 18 innings.

England Playing 11 vs Pakistan – ICC World Cup 2023, Match 44

England take on Pakistan in match 44 of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Kolkata on November 11. It’s a 2 pm start with England looking to finish on a high. Three teams have reached the semi-finals including India, Australia, and South Africa.

England who are already eliminated from the tournament are now looking to spoil the party for Pakistan. They are heading into this game on the back of a win against the Netherlands. The win came on the back of five consecutive losses.

The defending champions have not been efficient in this edition of the tournament and have not played spin particularly well. The match against Pakistan will be played in Kolkata. The Eden track has aided spin over the years and England as a side has struggled against spin throughout the tournament.

The head-to-head contest in World Cups is pretty even with England winning five games and Pakistan four. However, this side led by Jos Buttler has struggled against every opposition. They will need to bat especially well against the Pakistani spinners.

Batting so far has been England’s Achilles Heel with the middle-order hardly contributing anything substantial. In their previous match against the Netherlands, runs were few from the middle order. They are bound to be tested by spin against Pakistan.

Malan will open the batting for England. He scored 87 and is England’s highest scorer in this World Cup so far. The southpaw has scored 286 runs in 8 games at an average of 40.86.

Bairstow will open the batting along with Malan. He has endured a tough tournament. He was dismissed for just 15 against the Netherlands. Overall, he has scored just 141 runs in seven games at an average of 20.14.

The former England skipper will bat at three, he scored 28 and was nutmegged by Logan Van Beek against the Netherlands. He also has endured a disappointing campaign scoring just 188 runs at an average of 26.86.

England skipper Jos Buttler will bat at five. He was dismissed for just five against the Netherlands. Overall, he scored 106 runs in the tournament so far ar an average of 15.14 with no fifty-plus scores.

Liam Livingstone

Livingstone should replace Harry Brook in Kolkata. He is a handy batter down the order and can bowl both off-spin and leg spin. He can be the third spinner in the side.

Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali should bat at seven. He scored just four off 15 against the Netherlands. Like the rest of the England players, he too has struggled. He should be a handy option with the ball on the Eden track.

Chris Woakes

Woakes will bat at eight. He scored 51 against the Netherlands and picked a few wickets playing a part in his team’s win. With his ability to swing the new ball, he should be a handful in the opening 10 overs under lights.

David Willey

Willey should bat at nine. His batting at eight provides depth to the England batting lineup. He is another bowler who can swing the new ball. Unfortunately, none of the England bowlers are among the top wicket-takers.

Adil Rashid

Rashid will lead the spin attack and should get enough purchase from the Eden track to trouble the Pakistani batters. He has taken 10 wickets from seven games so far at an average of 30.40. Overall, he has 21 World Cup wickets.

Mark Wood

Wood concludes England’s predicted XI against Pakistan. He did not play against the Netherlands but should be brought back into the playing XI. Pakistan batters have struggled against short-pitched deliveries and he should exploit that weakness.

Joe Root couldn’t convert the start he got in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 game against the Netherlands. The 40th match of the tournament is taking place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune and it’s an extremely crucial game for both the teams in the context of Champions Trophy 2025.

England won the toss and opted to bat first. They lost Jonny Bairstow (15) early but after that, Joe Root along with Dawid Malan steadied the innings. It was expected that the duo would take a team to the big score because they batted beautifully and played tremendous strokes.

Joe Root however perished and the partnership between the two was broken. The batter was dismissed against Logan Van Beek. The pacer bowled a length ball to which the batter tried to play the reverse scoop. He got into an awkward position and failed to make contact.

The ball went between Joe Root’s legs to crash the stumps. The wicket came against the run of play and the Dutch side was extremely joyant. Here’s the video of the dismissal:

Joe Root perished after scoring 28 runs off 35 balls. He hasn’t been in the great touch in the ICC World Cup 2023. The batter has a series of low scores under his belt. It was a great opportunity for him to get some runs under his belt but unfortunately, he couldn’t cash on.

ENG vs NED: After Joe Root, Dawid Malan goes back to the hut

After the wicket of Joe Root, England were jolted with the blow of Dawid Malan. The Southpaw got run out in the very next over after that the batting side came under a lot of pressure. Aryan Dutt bowled a tossed-up delivery to which the batter pushed towards cover point.

Dawid Malan ran immediately for the single but was sent back by Ben Stokes. He fell short of his crease and was run out. The opener looked in staggering touch and was looking set for a big knock. He scored 87 runs off 74 balls.

Marnus Labuschagne was spot on with his DRS call in the ongoing match 36 of the ICC World Cup 2023. The Australian batter was pleading to his teammates to go upstairs and it ultimately resulted in the wicket of Joe Root at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Australia started pretty well with the ball while defending 286 runs. Mitchell Starc drew the first blood for his team as he removed Jonny Bairstow. If this was not enough, he removed Joe Root, and the credit for that goes to Marnus Labuschagne.

Mitchell Starc bowled a length delivery outside off, shaping away from him. Joe Root tried to steer it down with an open face. He got the nick by hardly anyone was aware of it. Marnus Labuschagne, however, was adamant that it caught the outside edge.

Marnus Labuschagne convinced skipper Pat Cummins and his teammates and the captain took the call with 2 seconds to go. UltraEdge picked up a fair deflection and the Australian team were jubilant after that.

Joe Root perished for 13 runs off 17 balls. After his wicket, England later lost Dawid Malan as well. The southpaw scored 50 runs and with his wicket, the team was left tumbling at 103/3. The onus will now be on Ben Stokes and skipper Jos Buttler to take the team home.

ENG vs AUS: Marnus Labuschagne’s 71-run knock powers Australia to a total of 286 runs

Australia were asked to bat first and they didn’t have a good start. Travis Head (11) and David Warner (15) lost their wickets early. But after that, it was Steve Smith (44) and Marnus Labuschagne (71) who held the fort and made sure they got the team off to a great start. Labuschagne in particular batted well and played from crisp strokes

After their wickets, Cameron Green (47) along with Marcus Stoinis (35) batted well in the middle. A vital contribution from the lower order in Pat Cummins (10), Mitchell Starc (10), and Adam Zampa (29) powered Australia to a total of 286 runs. For England, Chris Woakes was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged four wickets. Mark Wood and Adil Rashid bagged two scalps each whereas David Willey and Liam Livingstone also chipped in.

ENG vs AUS: "Take This Team Everyday Over The Australians"- Joe Root Makes Massive Claim Ahead Of Must-Win Game Against Australia

Former England skipper Joe Root is part of a current England side that has lost five out of the six games they have played in this World Cup so far and are nearing elimination. The defending champions have endured arguably their worst World Cup so far in this edition.

England are up against it as they face Australia in their next game in Ahmadabad on Saturday, November 4. This is a must-win game for the side if they are to harbor hopes of making the semis. Australia on the other hand, have been dominant with four back-to-back wins and is placed third on the points table nearing their semi-final berth.

Ahead of the must-win game, Joe Root spoke to BBC. He spoke about his love for his team and that he would stand up for his team rather than take Australia’s side. A loss against Australia will mean England’s World Cup chances are officially over.

“Man for man I’d have this team every day over the Australians. We might not have played as well as we can but when we play our best stuff, the best teams struggle to compete with us” former skipper Root told the BBC.

He further said that England should approach the game against Australia with a positive mindset and also be positive physically and mentally.

“We have to remember that and take that into the next couple of days, both in physical practice and mentally to make sure we’re in that frame of mind to take on Australia, which is what it’s about for us now” Root said further.

We Are A Far Better Side Than What We Have Shown: Joe Root

Joe Root further said that this is the right time to play Australia saying that as a side they are far better than what the recent results might show. There is an element of Ashes rivalry in this World Cup game and Root eluded to that as well.

“It’s a great opportunity to get back to what we expect of ourselves, the levels we put on ourselves, the levels that are expected externally as well. “We’re a far better side than what we’ve shown,” Root said.

“It [this situation] has been unique in many ways. Other tours, previous Ashes, there’s been other stuff going on away from the performances that had a massive effect on how we played — this is not comparable to those experiences” Root concluded.

England supporters club Barmy Army trolled India National Cricket Team batting superstar Virat Kohli for his 9-ball duck in the 29th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29.

Virat Kohli has been in red-hot form in the ongoing edition of the ICC World Cup 2023. He has been among the top run-getters and has won India matches with his batting brilliance.

However, the Indian batting great suffered a rare failure in the match against the defending champions England. He came to bat after the dismissal of Shubman Gill for a low score and got dismissed for a 9-ball duck, leaving India in a difficult position.

This was the first duck bagged by Virat Kohli in the history of the ICC Cricket World Cups. Also, he equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most ducks in international cricket.

England’s Barmy Army took to X to troll Kohli after his batting failure with a morphed photo of a duck.

Indians Respond To Barmy Army Trolling Virat Kohli After Ben Stokes, Joe Root Bag Ducks

Chasing a small target of 230, England batters performed extremely poorly, and two of their top batters – Joe Root and Ben Stokes – bagged ducks. Root came to bat in powerplay after the dismissal of Dawid Malan and he was dismissed for a golden duck.

Joe Root has struggled in the powerplay overs since the ICC World Cup 2019. In 18 innings, he has scored just 50 runs at an average of 4.54 and a strike rate of 37.87. Also, he has been dismissed 11 times between 1-10 overs. Just like Kohli, Root was out for a golden duck in the ODI World Cup for the first time.

There were a lot of expectations from Ben Stokes, but he too failed miserably. Stokes couldn’t survive against sensational Mohammed Shami and he was dismissed for a 10-ball duck. Eventually, England were bundled out for 129 in 34.5 overs to lose the match by 100 runs. Following the dismissal of Root and Stokes for ducks, Indian fans brutally trolled Barmy Army. India National Cricket Team premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah provided his side with the first couple of breakthroughs by dismissing the star England National Cricket Team batsmen Dawid Malan and Joe Root.

The Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team are taking on Jos Buttler-led England National Cricket Team in the 29th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29.

The Three Lions were off to a decent start in the match as the openers played confident cricket against the strong Indian bowling unit and added 30 runs for the opening wicket.

Jasprit Bumrah provided India with the first breakthrough as he cleaned up Malan on the 5th ball of the 5th over. He bowled a length ball around off-stump and the batter inside edged the delivery onto the stumps.

Bumrah was not done yet as on the next delivery he sent back the premier England batsman Joe Root. Bumrah trapped Root plumb and dismissed him for a golden duck.

Earlier, England won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Also, both the teams entered the clash with no changes in their playing XI.

Batting first, Rohit Sharma once again provided India with a flying start with his attacking brand of cricket. After the dismissal of Shubman Gill for a low score, Virat Kohli joined Rohit Sharma in the middle and there were high expectations from the batting greats. However, Kohli looked scratchy and was eventually cleaned up for a 9-ball duck.

Soon Shreyas Iyer also fell for 4 to a short ball, but KL Rahul provided much-needed support to his skipper. Together they batted brilliantly and built a great 91-run partnership in 111 balls.

In the end, Suryakumar Yadav played an amazing 49-run knock off 47 balls, with 4 fours, and Jasprit Bumrah supported him well with his 16-run knock to power India to a good total of 229/9.

Joe Root - Jasprit Bumrah

England National Cricket Team star batsman Joe Root was left fuming at the third umpire Ahsan Raza after his LBW dismissal in the 29th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29.

Joe Root was expected to play a big role with the bat for the Three Lions in the ongoing edition of the World Cup. However, he has not lived up to the expectations, having played just a couple of good knocks for the side.

During the run-chase against India, he came to bat after the dismissal of Dawid Malan. He wasn’t able to do anything with the bat and was back in the dugout after bagging a golden duck. On the last ball of the 5th over, Bumrah bowled a full-length delivery around off and middle stump and the ball rapped on the pads of the batter.

The on-field umpire raised his finger and after a chat with Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root opted for a DRS. On the UltraEdge, it showed there was a little spike when the ball was near the bat, but the third umpire declared that there was no bat involved and he gave it out.

Root was unhappy with the decision and he was left fuming. Root was also seen complaining to the umpires on the field but was forced to walk back into the hut.

Watch: Joe Root Left Fuming After Getting Out LBW

Overall, Root struggled in the powerplay overs since the ICC World Cup 2019. In 18 innings, he has scored just 50 runs at an average of 4.54 and a strike rate of 37.87. Also, he has been dismissed 11 times between 1-10 overs. Just like Kohli, Root was out for a golden duck in the ODI World Cup for the first time.

Earlier, England restricted India to a total of 229/9 on a tricky surface, and speaking during the mid-innings break, Chris Woakes said that they were happy to pick early wickets and put India under pressure. He elaborated:

“Nice to do well with the new ball. It was nice to get back in rhythm, we bowled in the right areas today. Picking up wickets is always nice, we put them under pressure early on. I missed my lengths earlier in the tournament, was a bit frustrating, but I hit the right areas today.

“The fielders backed up the bowlers and that set the tone for us. It’s two paced with the new ball. Hopefully the conditions get better under lights. It’s a good Indian side, hopefully we bat well and chase it down.”

Speaking in a video posted on Star Sports, he explained:

Joe Root Run Out

Luck wasn’t in the favour of Joe Root in the ongoing match 25 of the ICC World Cup 2023. The game between England and Sri Lanka is currently taking place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, where the defending champions won the toss and opted to bat first.

England did not have a great start in the game as they lost Dawid Malan (28) after a good start and to worsen the case more, Joe Root got out in an unfortunate event. The batter was back in the hut after a horrible mixup with Jonny Bairstow in the 10th over.

Joe Root cut a delivery from Mahesh Theekshana towards point and ran immediately. Jonny Bairstow however wasn’t interested and sent him. He made his way back to the crease but despite putting the dive, he was short of his crease.

Joe Root scored just three runs and England came under pressure. The Jos Buttler-led side are already under scanner after their poor performances in the ICC World Cup 2023. They are tottering in the lower half of the table and have managed just one win.

England would be desperate for a win here as they already have lost three games out of their four matches. They can’t afford to lose a game as it would mean that their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals would be dented. They need to win all their games from now.

Jonny Bairstow was under pressure after a mix-up with Joe Root. He couldn’t get going after that as he perished soon after that. Kasun Rajitha bowled a short of a length delivery to which the batter tried to whip.

The ball didn’t go past the mid-on, where Dhananjaya de Silva picked an easy catch. Jonny Bairstow managed just 30 runs off 31 balls. After his wicket, the team came in a spot of bother as they lost Jos Buttler as well. The captain went back for 8 runs and the team was left tottering at 77/4.

England all-rounder Ben Stokes was seen using an inhaler during a practice session at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 25. As per reports, Ben Stokes has no injury concerns, but England players are facing challenges related to breathing and air quality.

The Jos Buttler-led team had a disappointing start to their World Cup campaign. England has managed to secure one victory out of the four games they’ve played in the ongoing tournament so far. The team faced a major upset, suffering a defeat against Afghanistan.

Ben Stokes Caught Using Inhaler During Practice Session

According to Sports Tak, Ben Stokes is currently injury-free, but he has been seen using an inhaler. Stokes’s use of an inhaler potentially echoes concerns raised by Joe Root, who had pointed out the challenges some players were experiencing in terms of their breathing.

Speaking after England’s match against South Africa in Mumbai, Joe Root described the challenging conditions he experienced. Root compared it to feeling like he couldn’t catch his breath and described it as he was ‘eating the air.’

“I’ve not played in anything like that before. I’ve obviously played in hotter conditions, and probably more humid conditions. But it just felt like you couldn’t get your breath. It was like you were eating the air. It was unique,” Root told reporters.

“I mean you couldn’t get away from it. You walk out onto the field and your shirt’s soaking wet, and you have a lot heavier breath than you would do, and you know you’ve done your fitness and stuff, it’s not like you’re short on that. So you are very aware of it.”

The Three Lions are currently in 8th place in the table, just above Bangladesh and the Netherlands. The defending champions have accumulated two points with an NRR of -1.048. They must win all the remaining matches to have a chance to advance to the semi-finals.

The Jos Buttler-led team will face Sri Lanka in their next match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, October 26.

Star batter Joe Root has admitted that England’s cricketers faced challenging conditions during their recent match against South Africa. Joe Root stated that he had never encountered conditions like these before, despite having played in hotter and more humid climates.

The Jos Buttler-led team endured a crushing 229-run defeat against South Africa in Mumbai on October 21. South Africa scored 399/7, the highest-ever ODI total against England. Players on both sides grappled with the oppressive heat and “very unhealthy” air quality.

Could See It With Heinrich Klaasen – Joe Root

Joe Root described the immense challenges presented by the heat and smog, likening the experience to “eating the air,” which made it exceptionally hard to breathe.

“I’ve not played in anything like that before. I’ve obviously played in hotter conditions, and probably more humid conditions. But it just felt like you couldn’t get your breath. It was like you were eating the air. It was unique,” said Root.

The 32-year-old noted that even Rashid Khan, who delivered an exceptional performance, encountered challenges and had to exert extra effort to catch his breath.

“I mean you couldn’t get away from it. You walk out onto the field and your shirt’s soaking wet, and you have a lot heavier breath than you would do, and you know you’ve done your fitness and stuff, it’s not like you’re short on that. So you are very aware of it.”

“Rash [Rashid], bless him, I don’t think was great going into the game. He put in a brilliant performance for us. Some of the noises he was making when he was walking back to his mark summed it up, really. Trying to get his breath back. It was tough, but that’s the sort of stuff that you come up against and contend with when you come out to play in India at this time of year.”

Felt Like Quite A Hazy Day – Joe Root

Joe Root was uncertain whether it was the pollution or the heat that made it difficult to breathe during the match. He mentioned the hazy conditions and noted that visibility was challenging on one side of the ground, but not as much on the other.

“Who knows whether it was air quality? I’m not qualified to know. It felt like quite a hazy day, wasn’t it? And you could definitely see that from one side of the ground looking back towards the sun, it was a lot harder visually as well than it was on the other side of the ground. Whether it was air quality or what, it was definitely an experience I’ve not had before.”

ENG vs AFG: Watch - Mujeeb Ur Rahman Jolts England By Dismissing Joe Root

The 22-year-old Afghanistan National Cricket Team spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman uprooted the stumps of the 32-year-old England National Cricket Team batsman Joe Root in the 13th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday, October 15.

Chasing a modest total of 285 runs in the match, England were off to a poor start as they lost Jonny Bairstow in the second over itself. Then, Joe Root also fell in the 7th over to leave England in a spot of bother.

On the 5th ball of the 7th over, Mujeeb Ur Rahman bowled a fullish length delivery that pitched on the off-stump and it kept moving in with the angle. Joe Root went back and ended up playing down the wrong line. The ball kept low, snuck past the inside edge, and crashed into his off-stump.

Joe Root scored 11 runs off 17 balls, with 2 fours, before walking back to the hut. Overall, Joe Root has got awful numbers while batting in overs 1-10 in ODIs since 2020. He has scored 45 runs in 15 innings at an average of 5.62 and a strike rate of 39.13 while getting dismissed 8 times.

Speaking during the mid-innings break, Liam Livingstone, who shined with the ball, said that they decided to bowl first in the match keeping in mind the dew factor in the second innings. He said:

“Looked like a good pitch first up. I think the reason we bowled first was hoping the dew comes in and makes it a bit better second time out. It was a bit harder against spin but it was a good pitch overall.”

He added that he enjoys bowling and was satisfied with his performance against Afghanistan. He said:

“I tried to bring the stumps into play as much as I could and it came off well. It is something which I really worked on. Being the sixth bowler, you don’t always get to bowl. Sometimes I’m not needed and sometimes I’m thrown into the deep end like today. It’s something I pride on.

“Thankfully it came out well today. I work hard, making sure the leg spinners come out really well. I try to work on my off-spin whenever I can, it doesn’t come as naturally but I enjoy bowling.”

Joe Root has made a great impact for England in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 game against Afghanistan. The England batter has chipped in with the ball and also has displayed great fielding at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Joe Root hogged the headlines with the staggering catch he took to remove Rashid Khan. It happened during the 45th over when Adil Rashid bowled a tossed-up googly on the middle stump to the Afghanistan batter.

Rashid Khan made room to play but he carved it through wide of long-on. Joe Root ran across to his right and dived full-length before holding on to the catch just inside the ropes. It was a stunner that lifted the crowd and earned huge praise.

Rashid Khan looked threatening with the bat as he tried to up the ante and take his team to a big total. He managed 23 runs off 22 balls and also smashed three fours in his innings as well.

Coming to the game, Afghanistan after losing wickets in the middle have done a great recovery. Ikram Alikhan has smashed a vital half-century to take his team past the 260 runs. Earlier, Rahmanullah Gurbaz played a blistering knock of 80 runs to take his team off the flier.

The left-hander stayed back to play it through the off-side with an angled blade and got beaten on the outside edge. The ball went on to hit the top of the off stump.

Apart from Joe Root, Adil Rashid was the star with the ball as he picked three wickets and returned with the figures of 42/3. Barring Chris Woakes, every other other bowler picked wickets as England bundled out Afghanistan for 284 runs in Delhi.

Afghanistan had a fiery start with the bat but they have faced a terrible collapse and are under immense pressure. England spinners in particular have put their team on top and along with them Joe Root too chipped in.

Joe Root rattled the stumps of Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi with a beautiful delivery. The English batter bowled a flat off-spinner that landed around the off stump and straightened after that.

ENG vs AFG: After Joe Root Removes Hashmatullah Shahidi, Mark Wood Sends Mohammad Nabi packing

England continued their carnage on Afghanistan as after Joe Root removed Hashmatullah Shahidi, Mark Wood chipped in as well. The fast bowler removed Mohammad Nabi with a fiery delivery and the batter had no clue to the pace of the ball.

Mark Wood bowled a fiery short ball to which Mohammad Nabi took his eye off. He fended it awkwardly and the ball lobbed up and was pouched by Joe Root who was stationed around the gully region.

Adil Rashid drew the first blood for his team as he removed Ibrahim Zadran (28) and after that wickets fell like a pack of cards.

Rahmat Shah perished to Adil Rashid as well as the batter was stumped for 3 runs and in the same over Rahmanullah Gurbaz fell too. If this was not enough, Liam Livingstone chipped in as well. The all-rounder removed Azmatullah Omarzai. Afghanistan has collapsed from 114/0 to 174/5.

England Playing 11 vs Afghanistan: England take on Afghanistan in match 13 of the ICC World Cup 2023 on Sunday, October 15. The match starts at 2 pm IST in Delhi and is an uphill task for Afghanistan who are yet to win a World Cup game since the last edition of the World Cup.

England started their campaign with a loss against the New Zealand National Team. They bounced back brilliantly with a 137-run win over Bangladesh in their next match.

Ben Stokes did not play the first two games and his inclusion in the side seems to be a major problem for his team. Stokes is struggling with a hip injury and there is no update as yet whether he will play the next game against Afghanistan.

England will be led by Jos Buttler. Ben Stokes has come out of retirement to play the ODI World Cup for his side. Joe Root too is a part of the side as is Harry Brook who was a late entrant into the side. The England batters have shared the responsibility of run-scoring so far in the tournament.

The presence of all-rounders in the England lineup adds to the mix of the group and adds to the batting depth as well They bat till number eight or nine Adil Rashid is capable of using the long handle as well.

It is England’s batting depth that sets them apart from the rest of the teams in the competition. They have been playing with an aggressive approach for the last couple of years and have been reasonably successful at it. In this article, we take a look at England’s playing XI against Afghanistan. In case Stokes is still unfit, they can play the same side that they played against Bangladesh.

Malan will open the batting with Bairstow. He is fresh off a 140 in the last match against Bangladesh after he scored just 14 against the Kiwis. He is amongst the top run-getters in the tournament so far. He will be sizing up another big score against Afghanistan.

England star Joe Root has added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap. The right-handed batsman has now become England’s all-time leading run-scorer in ODI World Cup.

The former England captain achieved the feat during the game against Bangladesh at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium in Dharamsala on Tuesday (October 10). The record was previously held by England great Graham Gooch. Gooch scored 897 runs in 21 World Cup matches. The former batsman hit one century and eight half-centuries in the tournament.

Joe Root, on the other hand, took 19 matches to surpass his tally. He now has 917 runs in 19 ODI World Cup games. He also holds the record for most runs in a single edition of the World Cup as an England player. The ongoing edition is his third ODI World Cup as a player.

In the 2015 World Cup, Joe Root scored 202 runs in 6 games with the help of 1 century. In 2019, he scored a record 556 runs in 11 games including 2 centuries and 3 half-centuries as England won the World Cup for the first time. The former Test captain has started the ongoing tournament in a promising manner too by scoring fifties in the first two games.

In the World Cup opener against New Zealand, he scored 77 runs although England suffered a crushing 9-wicket loss against New Zealand. And against Bangladesh, Joe Root scored 82 runs off 68 balls with the help of 8 fours and a six. He added a big stand of 151 runs with opener Dawid Malan for the second wicket before the latter departed after scoring 140.

Most runs in the ODI World Cup:

The record for most runs in the ODI World Cup belongs to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. He finished his illustrious career after scoring 2278 runs in 45 World Cup games. Tendulkar also hit 6 centuries and 15 half-centuries in the tournament.

The former India batsman is the only player who has scored more than 2,000 runs in the ODI World Cup. Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, Brian Lara, and AB de Villiers complete the top five.

England Playing 11 vs Bangladesh– ICC World Cup 2023, Match 7. England take on Bangladesh in match 7 of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh on October 10. The match starts at 10.30 am IST and is England’s second game of the tournament.

England are heading into this game after losing their campaign opener against New Zealand. It turned out to be a fairly one-sided contest with the Kiwis winning the game by nine wickets in the end.

The world champions will now be playing in a different venue needing to adapt to the conditions. This is where Bangladesh have an advantage as they have already played a game there. England’s composition will be around their all-rounders who will play a big part as the tournament progresses.

They are looking like a good unit but was found out by spin in the first game. The Kiwi spinners took six wickets to leave England reeling. If anything they will be tested by more spin by Bangladesh.

The management will be concerned with Ben Stokes’ fitness. He missed the first game with a hip injury and as per reports is set to miss England’s clash against Bangladesh in Dharamsala on Tuesday.

If Stokes does not play the game, England might play the same XI that they played against New Zealand in their campaign opener. In this article, we predict England’s playing XI against Bangladesh.

England National Cricket Team star batsman Joe Root has warned his team against panic following the crushing loss to the New Zealand National Cricket Team in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 opener at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 5.

England were invited to bat first in the match and they posted 282/9 on the board with all players reaching double figures, but only one – Joe Root – smashing a half-century.

Defending the target, Sam Curran got the opening wicket for England and that was it in terms of wickets for the defending champions as following the dismissal of Will Young, Rachin Ravindra joined Devon Conway in the middle and together they played sensational knocks to steer New Zealand to a 9-wicket victory.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the loss, Root said that it was a frustrating day for them, but warned his side against panic after the defeat in the tournament opener. He also said that they underperformed with the ball. Joe Root elaborated:

“It was a frustrating day but it’s really important to remember, there’s so much cricket in this tournament and it’s really important we don’t panic,” he said. “If anything we just reaffirm what we’re about as a team and make sure we almost go more that way in the next game.”

“It’s always a cagey affair the first game of a tournament like this. We got ourselves into the game, got ourselves a score on the board. We knew that it was lower than what we probably wanted to be, and it could get dewy towards the back end tonight and it could skid on nicer, which it did. Credit to them, they played well. We underperformed with the ball, that’s why the gulf was so big in the end. We’re a better side with the bat, we know we are, and we’ve got plenty more opportunities in this tournament to prove that.”

I don’t think it’s ever a difficult conversation – Joe Root

Joe Root was questioned during the same interaction whether it was the time for “difficult conversations” in the dressing room, to which he replied that there is never a difficult conversation in the England dressing room because all the players play with the same goal in their minds. Joe Root said:

“I don’t think it’s ever a difficult conversation, if you’ve got good group who all trust each other and know what we’re about, we’re going towards something and have been for a while, then it becomes quite an easy conversation. It’s honest, not something we need to spend a huge amount of time talking about, because it’s pretty obvious where we’ve gone wrong.

“It’s about how can we make sure we don’t find ourselves in this situation again. What can we do to enable us to go that bit harder and right a few of the little mistakes that we made through this game. It’s important that we keep going, keep getting better, and if anything you want to keep constantly improving as a team as the tournament goes on, so that towards the back end when it really counts you’re in a really good space as a group and peaking at the right time.”

Joe Root admitted that they can’t lose too many games in the World Cup and they need to be calm heading further into the competition. Joe Root said:

“That being said, you can’t afford to lose too many games, but when have you ever seen a World Cup-winning campaign when there isn’t a little wobble or stumbling block. So, just stay calm, remember what we’re about as a group, and reinforce that for the next game.

Joe Root played some beautiful strokes in his innings and was the top run-getter for his side as he amassed 77 runs off 86 balls, with 4 fours and 1 six. While talking about his performance, Joe Root said that he was disappointed with his performance in the last four matches, but was happy with his batting in the World Cup opener. Joe Root said:

“It was warm, bit different to Sheffield. I enjoy playing in these conditions. It wasn’t as straightforward as you might want it to be, it wasn’t really true and coming on, there was a little bit of turn that made it hard to put your foot down in certain moments and really force those partnerships and make them substantial ones.

“Last four games I’ve not hit my straps like I’d like to, you want to perform in a tournament like this. You want to be part of big scores that set games up, and contributing. It’s a bit hollow when you don’t win but it’s a step in the right direction from a personal point of view.”

ICC World Cup Points Table 2023 – Updated Standings After ENG vs NZ Match 1: The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 opener saw the clash between 2019 World Cup finalists – England National Cricket Team and New Zealand National Cricket Team – at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 5.

New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. The Kiwis were without the likes of key players – Kane Williamson, Lockie Ferguson, and Tim Southee – in the match as the trio were unfit. On the other hand, the Three Lions were without their Test skipper Ben Stokes, who was unavailable for selection due to his niggle.

Meanwhile, England openers Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow batted very well against the Kiwi bowlers, but they were unable to score big runs. England lost their first wicket for 40 and after small partnerships of 24, 30, and 24, they were reduced to 118/4.

The defending champions looked in trouble and one more wicket would have pushed them out of the game. However, Joe Root and Jos Buttler made sure that didn’t happen as they stitched together sensational 70 runs together to bail their side out of trouble.

The partnership between Root and Buttler was the only half-century stand for England and they were restricted to 282/9 in 50 overs. Joe Root, who played some beautiful strokes, was the top run-getter for his side as he amassed 77 runs off 86 balls, with 4 fours and 1 six.

Also, all the 11 players in the England line-up scored at least 10 runs each and this was the first instance in the history of ODI cricket that 11 batters in a team had reached double figures.

New Zealand Demolish English Bowlers During Run-Chase

Chasing the target in the match, Devon Conway hit 10 runs in the first over. However, on the first delivery of the second over, he lost his opening partner Will Young for a golden duck.

The 23-year-old Rachin Ravindra joined the senior opener Devon Conway in the middle and together they surprised everyone as they annihilated the English bowling unit. Both players hit magnificent centuries and together they broke and created several new records.

The senior opener Devon Conway smashed a sensational 152 runs off 121 balls, with 19 fours and 3 sixes, while Rachin Ravindra hit 123 runs off 96 balls, with 11 fours and 5 sixes. They guided New Zealand to a dominant 9-wicket win as they completed the run-chase in 36.2 overs.

England National Cricket Team have managed to achieve a tremendous and historic milestone despite not posting a huge total on the board in the opening match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against the New Zealand National Cricket Team.

The world’s largest cricket stadium – Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad – is hosting the World Cup opener on Thursday, October 5. The BlackCaps were led by Tom Latham in the match as regular skipper Kane Williamson was unavailable. Also, the Three Lions were without star player Ben Stokes in the match as the English Test captain was not fit to play.

Latham called it right at the toss and invited the Three Lions to bat first in the match. England openers Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan provided their side with a decent start by stitching together 40 runs.

The defending champions lost the next three wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 118/4. Then, the senior batter Joe Root, who hasn’t been at his best in ODIs in recent times, showcased a batting masterclass. He was involved in an amazing 70-run partnership with skipper Jos Buttler and together they brought England back in the game.

England Achieve Historic Milestone

After losing Buttler, Joe Root built a good little partnership with Liam Livingstone, before being dismissed Glenn Phillips by in the 42nd over. The batter scored a brilliant 77 runs off 86 balls, with 4 fours 1 six, before he got castled while attempting a reverse sweep.

The tailenders of England also did a decent job and helped their side reach 282/9 in 50 overs. Although England lost wickets at regular intervals and only Joe Root played a big knock, the Three Lions still managed to achieve a historic milestone.

All the 11 players in the England line-up scored at least 10 runs each and this was the first instance in the history of ODI cricket that 11 batters in a team had reached double figures.

Glenn Phillips is proving to be a game-changer for New Zealand in the ongoing first game of the ICC World Cup 2023 against England. The part-time spinner has been nothing short of exceptional at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Glenn Phillips gave his team a scalp of Moeen Ali in the first over that he bowled and after that didn’t bowl for a while. However, as he was introduced into the attack for his second over, he again provided his side with the crucial breakthrough, this time of Joe Root.

Glenn Phillips bowled a bowled yorker delivery to which Joe Root tried to play the reverse sweep. The ball went under his bat and went on to hit the leg stump. The wicket was much needed for New Zealand as the English batter was going great guns.

Joe Root was the only English batter who looked settled. The right-hander played some crips shots and held the one end despite wickets falling at the other. He scored 77 runs off 86 balls and also smashed 6 fours and 1 six in his innings. Here’s the video:

Glenn Phillips also removed Moeen Ali with a peach as well. He bowled a short ball that had a hint of spin in it and Moeen Ali misjudged it and rocked back in the crease to pull it away. However, he played the wrong line, missed the ball completely, and saw his stumps getting shattered.

New Zealand spinners have bowled exceptionally well and have put their team on the front foot.

Irfan Pathan lauds Tom Latham As Glenn Phillips Removes Joe Root

Tom Latham, who’s captaining New Zealand, has displayed great leadership skills in the ongoing game. Whatever he has touched has turned into gold. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan lauded the southpaw, saying that he has made brilliant bowling changes.

Taking to his X account, he said: “Tom Latham’s captaincy has been top-notch in this match. He caught the match pulse on every occasion. Brilliant bowling changes with the resources he has.”

The wait is finally over as ICC World Cup 2023 is underway. England are facing New Zealand in the first game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Joe Root has steadied the ship for his team after they faced early blows.

England after being put into bat first had a fiery start with the bat as Jonny Bairstow (33) took attack to the New Zealand pacers and smashed them all over the park. However, he along with Dawid Malan (14) couldn’t carry on the start that they got as they lost their wickets early and were tumbling at 64/2.

Joe Root, who wasn’t in greatest of form, has looked solid at the crease and has played some crips shots. He has made sure that his team doesn’t get off the platform as he has steadied the innings after two quick wickets and is scoring fluently.

Joe Root also brought out his trademark reverse scoop shot in the match. It happened during the 12th over when Trent Boult bowled a full delivery that was slanting in. The batter got into the position early and middled it as the ball sailed over the keeper for six.

After the wickets of Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook (25) played some brutal strokes but he got carried away and ended up throwing his wicket away. England were left at 94/3 and the onus will now be on Joe Root to take his team to the big total in Ahmedabad.

Joe Root during his innings has achieved a special milestone. The England batter completed 1000 runs against the Kiwis in the ODIs and became the only batter from his country to achieve the feat. He has also smashed three tons and five fifties with 106* being his highest score.

England Playing 11 vs New Zealand – ICC World Cup 2023, Match 1. England take on New Zealand in the ICC World Cup 2023 opener in Ahmedabad on October 5. The match starts at 2 pm IST and kicks off the tournament. The match is in many ways a rematch of the 2019 World Cup final.

England will be led by Jos Buttler in the T20Is and the World Cup. They have recently named their preliminary squad of 15 members. Ben Stokes has come out of retirement to play the ODI World Cup for his side. Joe Root too is a part of the side as is Harry Brook who was a late entrant into the side.

With India presenting different conditions across different venues, it will be interesting to see whether the visitors can adapt. England recently won an ODI series 3-1 against the Kiwis and hence will know their opponents very well.  In this article, we predict England’s playing XI against New Zealand as the World champions begin their title defense.

England’s ace batter Joe Root recalled the highly dramatic final of the 2019 World Cup, where England beat New Zealand on a boundary count after the super over was tied between these two teams.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first in the final, Henry Nicholls scored a gritty half-century and New Zealand put up a total of 241 in their 50 overs. England were 86/4 while chasing but after that, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler had a really good partnership of 110 runs which put England back in the game.

Ben Stokes remained not out till the end on 84 as England got all out on 241 which resulted in a tie. The Super Over then was again a tie with both England and New Zealand scoring 15 runs in the Super over but the match was awarded to England based on the number of boundaries that they hit. During the last stage of the England innings, Stokes saw a throw from the far going to the boundary after clipping his bat which changed the course of the entire match.

Joe Root recalled these events and said that it was a pinch-yourself moment as what he witnessed was unbelievable. Joe Root didn’t have an auspicious final as he got out of Colin de Grandhomme’s delivery after scoring just 7 runs off 30 deliveries.

Joe Root Said That The Victory Was Sweet In The 2019 World Cup

“It is a pinch-yourself thing when you sit down and think about it. We had no right to win it but that makes it a bit sweeter. I just had a shocker of a day with the bat.

“It was one of the most frustrating innings I have played as an England player on one of the days when you really want to stand up and be counted, but there are so many times when individually you fail, but are part of something bigger than yourself and your mates pull you through, ” Joe Root said while talking to The Telegraph about the World Cup Final.

England will face New Zealand in the opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad. The two finalists of the 2019 World Cup will again lock horns, and this time, the boundary count rule is not going to be there. After England’s World Cup victory, ICC removed the boundary count rule. Now if the super-over is tied, the teams will play another super-over to determine the winners.

England’s ace batter Joe Root expressed his enthusiasm for participating in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023, which is set to begin on October 5. Joe Root acknowledged his lack of runs in the ODI format, but hoped to deliver strong performances in the tournament.

Joe Root played a crucial role in England’s 2019 World Cup-winning campaign at home. The right-handed batter was England’s leading run-scorer, scoring 556 runs in 11 matches at an average of 61.33. He smashed two centuries and three fifties during the tournament.

I Will Raise My Game – Joe Root

Joe Root acknowledged that having a substantial number of runs behind him would be crucial for a tournament like the World Cup. He expressed his hope to elevate his game and prepare for the challenging conditions.

“I find it hard to say no. You want to go into every World Cup with millions of runs behind you but the difference now is that I now have a wealth of experience and knowledge, not just of the format but the conditions we are going to play,” Joe Root said.

“I know I am a good player, who can perform at this level and raise my game. Nothing can replicate playing in a World Cup and when that comes round I will raise my game and be ready for those conditions. I can go out there and deliver like I did in the previous World Cup.”

The 32-year-old has played only 19 games since the 2019 World Cup final match. He scored 390 runs at an average of 27.85 and a strike rate of 77.68. He amassed 39 runs at an average of 9.75 and a strike rate of 60.94 during the last ODI series against New Zealand.

Played A Huge Amount Of Time Playing Together – Joe Root

Joe Root emphasized the value of winning a World Cup in unfamiliar conditions, highlighting the group’s ability to handle pressure in crucial moments.

“To win any World Cup outside your own conditions is an incredible feat regardless of the format. The one thing that the group has gut is they have been there and done it, whether in 2019 or the T20 group in Australia last year.

“Guys have got the experience and knowledge of what it takes to play under pressure in those big games and moments which you can’t replicate. This is a group that has played a huge amount of time playing together.”

“Me, Jos and Ben played under as our first World Cup experience in 2009-10, [Root opened with Butler, Stokes hatted six. England were captained by Azeem Rafiq]. We have come through it all together and seen so much cricket.”

England World Cup Squad: Jos Buttler (c & wk), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes

Babar Azam and Virat Kohli

Time and again, one has seen cricket fans debate over who has the best cover drive in the game. The likes of Virat Kohli and Babar Azam are famous for their beautiful cover drives and their fans often debate over who plays it better.

And while the jury is still out on it, India captain Rohit Sharma was also asked to name the player who has the best cover drive in the game. In reply, Rohit Sharma picked three players – Virat Kohli, Babar Azam and Joe Root. However, he also mentioned that Kohli’s technique to play cover drive is better than Babar and Root’s.

During a conversation on journalist Vimal Kumar’s YouTube channel, Rohit Sharma said: “Kohli, Babar, Joe Root. But I think Kohli has the best technique when it comes to the cover drive.”

Last year, former England skipper Nasser Hussain had also shared his views on the topic. The former cricketer-turned-commentator had picked Babar over Kohli, saying:

“Sorry Indian fans I’m going to be biased and go with Babar Azam. I nearly went with Kohli but he is slightly different. He has the fast flick of the wrist but Babar has the conventional way of playing it. If any young boy wants to learn cover drive, I would say watch Babar Azam.”

Babar Azam vs Virat Kohli:

Babar Azam and Virat Kohli will be soon in action in the upcoming World Cup 2023. Both the batsmen will be playing key roles for their respective teams. The highly-anticipated World Cup is scheduled to be played from October 5 to November 19.

Kohli and Babar will come face to face on October 14 when India locks horns against Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Kohli and Babar will be looking to top the run-scoring chart in the competition. Neither Kohli nor Babar has managed to achieve the feat in their career so far.

The upcoming World Cup will be Kohli’s fourth while Babar will be playing in an ODI World Cup for the first time. Babar will also be leading his team in the competition.

England’s premier batter Joe Root has backed his teammate Jonny Bairstow to be the leading run-getter in the ICC World Cup 2023. He believes that the keeper-batter will have a point to prove in the upcoming tournament.

Jonny Bairstow is one of the best white-ball openers currently in world cricket. The keeper-batter has been among the main reason behind England’s success in the last few years. What has been impressive about him is that he has scored consistently at the top.

Going into the ICC World Cup 2023, Jonny Bairstow will be one of the key players for England as he was in 2019. The opening batter along with Joe Root will be pivotal for the defending champions and it’s fair to say that if they fire, the Jos Buttler-led side will have a great chance to defend their title.

Joe Root highlighted Jonny Bairstow’s consistency over the years as an opener. Hailing him as a wonderful player, he backed Bairstow to do special things. Speaking to ICC, he explained:

“I am going to go for Jonny Bairstow (to be the leading run-scorer). He is someone that always has a point to prove, he is a wonderful white-ball player and he has been so consistent for us at the top of the order.”

Jonny Bairstow didn’t look in great touch in the recently concluded series against New Zealand. The opening batter scored just 19 runs across four games. But considering his experience in Indian conditions, one cannot write him off.

Joe Root also talked about the importance of Adil Rashid for England in the World Cup. He believes that a leg-spinner can trouble opposition batters in Indian conditions. He explained:

“He (Rashid) has so many different skills and variations to call upon. We know how important it is to take wickets in the middle overs…he has done a wonderful job for us for a long time and I anticipate him being very difficult on these wickets.”

We are going to have to play some really good cricket – Joe Root

Joe Root further talked about the importance of adapting to conditions in India. He explained that they need to play good cricket to be successful. He elaborated:

“Having the experience of 2019 and how good that was and how much that meant to the group and for them to go out and get the opportunity to defend it is something we are relishing and really looking forward to.

“We are going to have to play some really good cricket, we are going to have to adapt to different conditions and have that consistency that you need so we will see how we go.”

ICC World Cup 2023 will begin from 5th October. England will play the tournament opener against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Veteran England batter Joe Root expressed his hope to defend their title in the upcoming much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 in India. Joe Root fondly recalled the memories of the Super Over against New Zealand during the 2019 World Cup final at Lord’s in London.

Following their humiliating exit in the 2015 World Cup, England adopted an aggressive style of play under the leadership of Eoin Morgan. The Three Lions beat New Zealand in the final game of the tournament, securing their first ICC title in the 50-over format.

Really Looking Forward To – Joe Root

Speaking to the ICC, Joe Root emphasized the need for adaptability and consistency to excel in the upcoming 10-team tournament.

“Having the experience of 2019 and how good that was and how much that meant to the group and for them to go out and get the opportunity to defend it is something we are relishing and really looking forward to,” Root was quoted as saying by ICC.

“We are going to have to play some really good cricket, we are going to have to adapt to different conditions and have that consistency that you need so we will see how we go,” he added.

Joe Root had a forgettable outing against New Zealand in the recently concluded four-match ODI series, amassing 39 runs at an average of 9.75 and a strike rate of 60.94. The right-handed batter has scored 137 runs with an average of 15.22 in ODIs since 2022.

Very Exciting To Play In A World Cup – Joe Root

Joe Root expressed his excitement about participating in a World Cup event, highlighting his desire to deliver for his country in the semi-final and final games where performance matters the most.

“It is very exciting to play in a World Cup event is something that you always look forward to as a player,” Root further added.

“Big tournaments and big moments is where you want to go out and perform and impress and deliver for your country. You have to get to those last two games – the semi-final and the final – and it is about turning up and putting in the performance when it really counts.”

The Jos Buttler-led team will start their World Cup campaign by taking the Black Caps to the world’s largest stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 5.

The 25-year-old England National Cricket Team top-order batsman Zak Crawley has admitted that he was left shocked after his appointment as the skipper for the Ireland ODIs.

England will host Ireland for a three-match ODI series in September. The first match will be played on September 20 at the Headingley in Leeds. The next two matches are set to be played on September 23 and 26 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham and Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol respectively.

With the series being close to the World Cup, ECB rested most of the ODI regulars, including white-ball captain Jos Buttler, and Crawley was handed the responsibility to lead a 13-player squad with Ben Duckett serving as his deputy.

Speaking on the eve of his first outing as England skipper, Zak Crawley said that he was left shocked when white-ball head coach Matthew Mott informed him that he would be leading England’s ODI team in the Ireland series.

“Yeah, I was shocked. I was just hoping to get into the team and play more for England. But they told me I was captain and it’s a great opportunity for me.

“It was Motty (head coach Matthew Mott) who gave me the call to say I’d be in the squad and captaining. It was as simple as that. He was doing the rounds phoning everyone else so it was a pretty brief phone call but a pretty good call.”

Obviously having Joe in the team makes it stronger – Zak Crawley

Star batter Joe Root was recently added to the England squad for the first ODI against Ireland at his own request. Talking about Root’s inclusion, Crawley said that the addition of the former England captain has made their team stronger.

“Obviously having Joe in the team makes it stronger, no matter what team you’re in. It’s great having him,” said Crawley.

“Especially so for me as captain because I can lean on him for that kind of stuff. It’s awesome and hopefully, he gets what he wants from it.”

Meanwhile, Zak Crawley has so far represented the Three Lions in just three ODIs, with all games coming in the Covid-19-affected series against Pakistan in 2021.

England have added Joe Root to their squad for the upcoming first ODI against Ireland, scheduled to be played at Headingley on Wednesday (September 20). England took the decision after Joe Root himself requested to be added to the team in order to find his form ahead of the all-important ICC World Cup 2023.

England had initially named a 13-man squad for the three-match ODI series against Ireland. The squad did not feature any players who were named in the 15-member World Cup squad. Harry Brook was a part of the squad but has now been rested for the series after replacing Jason Roy in the World Cup squad.

Joe Root to play against Ireland:

However, Joe Root has decided to play against Ireland as he looks to get his form back in the 50-over format. The right-handed batsman failed to do well with the bat during the recently concluded four-match ODI series against New Zealand. In four matches, the former England Test captain was dismissed for a single-digit score three times as he registered scores of 6, 0, 4 and 29.

He has also not played too many games in ODIs in recent years. Since helping England win the World Cup in 2019, he has played only 16 ODIs. Overall, Joe Root has a fine record in the ODI format. One of the best Test batsmen in the world, he has scored 6246 runs in 162 ODIs so far at an average of 49. The England star has struck 16 centuries and 36 half-centuries in ODIs so far.

“Like for a lot of people, he is getting that rhythm of 50-over cricket,” England’s national selector Luke Wright said. “Obviously we don’t play [much of] it in this country, but a lot of those lads haven’t played a lot of 50-over cricket, especially someone like Joe.

“He just wanted a bit more time. It’s a great thing for someone to still have that desire to keep wanting to do more and more. It shows where he’s at with his game and what makes him such a world-class player that, when he doesn’t feel quite right, he still wants to tinker and do more. As much as we probably thought he needed a break as well, he just wanted another go,” he added.

England will begin their defence of the World Cup title on October 5 when they take on New Zealand in the tournament opener in Ahmedabad. Before that, they will also play two warm-up games in Guwahati.

England squad for ICC World Cup 2023:

Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.

Jos Buttler Backs Joe Root After Poor Batting Show

While speaking during the post-match presentation, England skipper Jos Buttler defended Joe Root after his poor batting show in ENG vs NZ series. Buttler said that it would be wrong to leave out someone just after you urged them to play in a specific way.

“We’ve tried to be a really loyal team and selection panel throughout. It’s something Eoin Morgan and Trevor Bayliss started. If you ask people to play in an aggressive way, then leave them out as soon as it goes wrong, it sends the wrong message,” said Jos Buttler.

“Everything’s an option. With a guy as experienced as Joe Root, you can clearly just ask him ‘what do you need before a World Cup?’ and he’ll be able to give an answer as to what he’d like to do,” the England opener added.

Star English batsman, Joe Root heaped praise on Suryakumar Yadav before the start of the ODI World Cup 2023 in India and said that the 32-year-old Indian batsman is very frightening and consistent with his performance.

Currently, Rohit Sharma-led India and Suryakumar Yadav are in Sri Lanka to take part in the Asia Cup 2023. The final of the Continental Cup 2023 will be held on Sunday (September 17th) at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Even though Suryakumar has not performed well in the 50-over format still he has been included in the Men in Blue 15-member squad for the forthcoming extravaganza tournament.

While speaking to TOI, Joe Root said that the 32-year-old Indian batsman should be praised for scoring so many tons in a short period of the in white-ball cricket. Root added that it is difficult to bowl at Suryakumar Yadav since he hit at unusual areas.

The English man further added that any young kid wants to copy SKY if they watch him play since it is so fun seeing him play.

“SKY’s consistency is frightening. How he’s managed to score so many hundreds in a short space of time, especially in the position in the order that he bats and how quickly he’s done it. It’s been remarkable really. And he’s so difficult to bowl at because he hits it in such unusual areas. Any young kid who watches him would want to go and replicate it. It looks so much fun to do and to play,” Joe Root said.

When asked about how SKY is being compared with AB de Villiers and Kevin Pietersen, Root said that ABD and Pietersen inspired generations during their time.

“But he’s very smart about how he does it as well. He picks the ball well, he picks his gaps and he executes extremely well. He’s made himself into a wonderful T20 player. But guys like ABD, and Kevin Pietersen, inspire generations and they inspire young players too,” Root added.

A lot of youngsters are looking up to him and doing something different just like him: Joe Root on Suryakumar Yadav

The former England Test skipper said that Suryakumar Yadav is inspiring youth who are interested in cricket like Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar inspired SKY in this sport.

“For Virat, Sachin was a massive inspiration for him. That’s one of the greatest things in this sport at this level. You inspire young children to pick up a bat and a ball and want to go and do great things in the game. Same thing SKY is doing. A lot of youngsters are looking up to him and doing something different just like him,” Joe Root concluded.

Rohit Sharma-led India will start their ODI World Cup 2023 voyage against Australia on October 8th at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Virat Kohli and Joe Root

England superstar Joe Root has warned Team India against dropping Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the T20 side for next year’s T20 World Cup.

While both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are still indispensable parts of India’s ODI and Test teams, the same cannot be said about their position in the T20 sides. Neither Virat Kohli nor Rohit Sharma has played any T20I for India since the conclusion of the T20 World Cup last year.

There were calls from a lot of quarters to make big changes in the team after India failed to win the T20 World Cup twice in two years. In 2021, the Men in Blue failed to make it to the semifinals before suffering a crushing 10-wicket loss against eventual winners England in the semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2022.

Soon after the tournament ended, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were dropped from the T20 side. At first, the selectors said that the senior batsmen had been rested. However, they have yet to play a T20I game since the World Cup. Many also believe that the star batsmen are likely to return to the T20I side once the ODI World Cup is over.

Joe Root on writing off Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma:

While only time will tell whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play in the T20 World Cup next year or not, Joe Root believes it will be a mistake on India’s part. In a recent interview, the former England captain said that writing off players like Kohli and Rohit because of their age is dangerous. He cited the examples of Chris Gayle and James Anderson to prove his point.

“I think it’s very dangerous just to write off players like Virat and Rohit because of their age. Look at how long Chris Gayle, for example, played T20 cricket. Some of the best players in the world have gone longer, especially in T20 cricket, and have been wonderful with their performances. As long as you’re fit, you go on and play,” Joe Root was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

“Jimmy Anderson is a perfect example you look at. He is over 40, he’s still performing exceptionally well. We’re very fortunate that we’ve not lost out on that because we think he’s too old. He’s still playing and he’s still leading our attack. And we’re using all that experience and skill to our advantage,” Joe Root further stated.

“We’re seeing him as a talent and ability and a wonderful player on his own. It’s always dangerous when you start looking at – is it time for the end of a career? I think you’ve got to look at performances and what they bring to the team,” Joe Root added.

In Rohit’s absence, Hardik Pandya has been leading the T20 side. The BCCI, however, is yet to declare the allrounder as a permanent allrounder. And it would not be surprising at all if the senior batsmen indeed return to the T20 team ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Both the batsmen have proved their class once again by performing well in the ongoing Asia Cup. Rohit Sharma is the leading run-scorer in the competition after scoring 194 runs in 4 games with the help of 3 fifties. Kohli, on the other hand, played a sublime knock of 122 not out from just 94 balls against Pakistan.

Former England skipper Joe Root praised veteran Indian batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, calling them consistent performers across the formats for a long time. Joe Root acknowledged the challenge of finding replacements for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the Indian cricket team.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been impressive with the bat in the Asia Cup 2023. The Indian skipper scored three consecutive half-centuries after his failure against Pakistan in the first match. Kohli, on the other hand, scored his 47th ODI century in the Super Four match against Pakistan.

That’s Not For Me To Say – Joe Root

In an interview with the Times of India, Joe Root expressed admiration for the skills of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, considering them players to learn from.

“That’s very difficult to answer. That’s not for me to say. The two of them are wonderful players across all formats, leading players, and have both had to shoulder a lot of pressure for a number of years,” Root told The Times of India.

“When it comes to representing India, it’s impressive how consistent they’ve been for such a long period of time. And you know, as a fellow professional, you look at them, you look to learn and take lessons from their game,” he added.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have not announced their retirement from cricket, as they still have cricket left in them. Team management would strategically plan the transition of these key players to maintain the team’s long-term performance and success.

Rohit Sharma To Lead India In World Cup 2023

Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian National Cricket Team in the much-anticipated ODI World Cup 2023 at home. The marquee tournament will be played from October 5 to November 19 across 10 venues. The Men in Blue will be hoping to end a decade-long ICC trophy drought in front of a home crowd.

The Rohit Sharma-led team will start their campaign by taking on five-time champion Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8. The highly anticipated encounter between archrivals India and Pakistan will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.

India’s World Cup 2023 squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (vc), Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav.

Veteran English pacer, James Anderson praised Ben Stokes and Joe Root ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023 and said that they are for big moments. Both Joe Root and Ben Stokes have been included in the England squad for the upcoming 50-over World Cup.

Ben Stokes overturned his retirement decision before the team was announced and the team selectors wasted no time to include an experienced player in the squad. Following this, Harry Brook was excluded from the squad to make space for Stokes.

However, England coach Matthew Mott hinted at Harry Brook’s return to the squad when he said that there is still room for changes in the ODI World Cup 2023 squad but he did not mention the youngster’s inclusion in the team.

England’s provisional squad for the ODI World Cup 2023: Jos Buttler (Captain), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.

Ben Stokes retired from the 50-over format during the summer of 2022 and continued to lead the England Test side. The 32-year-old was also the skipper of the English side during the Ashes 2023.

They’ve got so much experience in that team: James Anderson on the presence of Joe Root and Ben Stokes in the squad

While speaking to BBC’s Test match special, James Anderson talked about the ODI World Cup 2023 squad and said that they have got much experience and added that players like Ben Stokes and Joe Root love these big tournaments.

James Anderson talked about the depth of the squad and said that all the 16-17 players have the potential to make it into the playing eleven.

“England have an embarrassment of riches. They’ve got so much experience in that team. Ben Stokes, Joe Root, these guys love this competition and the big moments. You feel like you’ve got a group of players where any one of them can play in any 11 out of that 16/17 players could do a great job,” James Anderson said.

The 41-year-old pacer said that the squad will have more depth once Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy come back from injury.

“It will always be the case, there are always players you will leave out. There are 17 in the squad when [Jonny] Bairstow and [Jason] Roy are back [from injury], they come straight back in, that probably takes out Brook and [Liam] Livingstone, meaning Moeen [Ali] to come back in,” he added.

England, the defending champions will take on New Zealand in the inaugural match of the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 5th at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

England's Predicted Squad For ICC World Cup 2023

England Squad for ICC World Cup 2023, Schedule 2023, Team List, Match List. England begin their ICC World Cup 2023 campaign against New Zealand on October 5 in Ahmedabad. The 2019 WC champions have almost the same core of players who played the last World Cup this time as well. The side will be led by Jos Buttler who took over captaincy from Eoin Morgan.

Jos Buttler led England to their second T20 World Cup win in Australia. The side looked in ominous form with their batters and bowlers all in great form. Buttler himself led England very well in the tournament.

England have received a major boost ahead of the World Cup with Ben Stokes coming out of his ODI retirement to play for the national team in the tournament. His return certainly bolsters the team. The 2019 player of the series, Stokes gives the squad the much-needed flexibility. He can bat anywhere from number three to seven allowing the other players to play around him.

England will be playing a four-match T20I series followed by a four-match ODI series against New Zealand heading into the World Cup. The series will allow them to finetune their final 15-member squad for the World Cup.

Bairstow and Roy have formed a terrific opening combination in the last few years. They opened the batting in the last World Cup and will be opening the batting in this World Cup as well. When on song, both openers can destroy opposition bowling lineups. It will be interesting to see if they keep up to their Bazball approach in the World Cup in entirely different conditions.

Right-handed English batsman Joe Root spoke on Ben Stokes’ return from his retirement in the ODI format and said that he has nothing to do with Stokes’ overturning his retirement decision.

Ben Stokes recently decided to come back from his retirement in the ODI format and once the decision was made, the England selection committee did not waste any time and included him in the squad and kept Harry Brook out of the squad.

When Joe Root was asked if he played any part to convince Ben Stokes to overturn his decision then Root replied that he has nothing to do with it.

Root added that when he was the captain, he used to ask Ben Stokes to not ball, but the English Test skipper used to not listen to him.

Root further praised Ben Stokes’ presence in the squad and that he will bring more confidence to the squad since he is a proper match-winner.

“It’s got nothing to do with me! Are you joking? Did you not see my tenure as captain, the amount of times I would tell him to stop bowling and he would tell me to f*** off?! I didn’t see the point in even trying! You know every other international team are looking thinking, ‘Damn, I thought we got rid of him!’ At the same time, it fills the rest of the squad with confidence, knowing you’ve got a proven match-winner who will always seek out those big moments,” Joe Root said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

The best player we’ve ever produced as a country: Joe Root on Ben Stokes

Joe Root heaped praise on the English Test skipper and said that he is the best player England have ever produced in the country.

“You look at the two World Cup finals we won, and he won for us. Even the one we lost against West Indies in 2016, he still took on the big moment – he wanted that final over. To be able to come back from that in the manner that he has and deliver some of the things he has done in an England shirt is a testament to what a legend he is in the game. Probably, I think, the best player we’ve ever produced as a country,” Joe Root added.

Jos Buttler-led England will take on New Zealand in the inaugural match of the forthcoming ODI World Cup in India on October 5th at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

England batter Joe Root talked opened up about all-rounder Ben Stokes coming out of retirement for the ICC World Cup 2023. He said that his presence in the team gives other teams a scare and it also fills their team with confidence.

Ben Stokes will be playing for England in the ICC World Cup 2023 as he came out of retirement in ODIs for the team’s cause. The all-rounder arguably is one of the best players to have played the game of cricket. The reason behind this is that when everyone fails he steps up and takes his side to win.

Ben Stokes retired from ODIs in July 2022, saying that it was getting difficult for him to manage all three formats. The all-rounder didn’t play for a year in this format but he also didn’t deny his team’s request to play in the World Cup. As he made the decision to come back he was in the team’s provisional squad for the tournament.

In the last two World Cups (2019 ODI World and T20 World Cup 2022), Ben Stokes was England’s man of the final. In both finals, he stepped up and played brilliant innings which ensured that England end up winning both titles.

Joe Root while talking about Ben Stokes said that England will be very confident with his return because they will be knowing that they have a proven match-winner in their team.

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he explained: “You know every other international team are looking thinking, ‘Damn, I thought we got rid of him!’ At the same time, it fills the rest of the squad with confidence, knowing you’ve got a proven match-winner who will always seek out those big moments. You look at the two World Cup finals we won, and he won for us.”

ICC World Cup 2023: I think, the best player we’ve ever produced as a country – Joe Root On Ben Stokes.

Joe Root further went to hail Ben Stokes for his comeback after making the team lose the T20 World Cup final in 2016. Touting him as a legend, he called the all-rounder the best player from their country.

He explained: “Even the one we lost against West Indies in 2016, he still took on the big moment – he wanted that final over. To be able to come back from that in the manner that he has and deliver some of the things he has done in an England shirt is a testament to what a legend he is in the game. Probably, I think, the best player we’ve ever produced as a country.

Ben Stokes has played 105 ODIs and has scored 2924 runs an average of 38.98 with three tons and 21 half-centuries in 105 ODIs. Apart from this he also picked 74 wickets at an average of 42.39.

Virat Kohli and Steve Smith

Former Australian cricketer Gregg Chappell predicted that veteran batters Virat Kohli and Steve Smith would excel in the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is set to be played in India. Gregg Chappell stated that Virat Kohli and Steve Smith would compete to stamp their supremacy in the World Cup.

The term ‘Fab Four’, coined by the late New Zealand cricketer Martin Crowe, encompassed Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Joe Root, and Kane Williamson. Since then, these four batters have consistently scored runs in international cricket and have often been subject to comparisons among them.

Fab 5 Will Score A Lot Of Runs For Their Teams – Greg Chappell

In a conversation with Boria Majumdar, Greg Chappell expressed that the ‘Fab Five’ batters, Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Babar Azam, Joe Root, and Kane Williamson, are expected to accumulate significant runs for their respective nations in the World Cup.

“I think each one of them will score a lot of runs for their teams. The format makes for that. And the timing of the World Cup, the conditions expected in India, all of it will suit these players who are all very good players for their respective teams,” Chappell said.

Kane Williamson sustained an injury while representing the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The right-handed batter is currently recovering from his injury and is unlikely to make it to the squad for the mega tournament in India.

Would Pick Virat Kohli And Steve Smith – Greg Chappell

The former Indian head coach picked Virat Kohli and Steve Smith as the best batters across the three formats in international cricket at the moment.

“Having said that, I would pick Virat Kohli and Steve Smith as the two best all-format players, and think it will be between these two in the World Cup to stamp their supremacy,” he concluded.

The upcoming ODI World Cup will be played in India between October 5 and November 19. The tournament will kick off with the match between defending champions Enfland and Nezeald at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The final match will also be played at this iconic venue in Ahmedabad.

England pacer Ollie Robinson revealed how Joe Root praised Stuart Broad for sledging Australian players following Jonny Bairstow’s controversial run-out dismissal during the second Test of the Ashes 2023. He said that his fellow fast bowler was the perfect man for the occasion.

Ashes 2023 was full of drama. There were quite a few incidents that hogged the headlines but one of the most talked about moments was Jonny Bairstow’s run out effected by Alex Carey that even triggered the spirit of the game and saw Australia players getting criticised.

Alex Carey was the main victim as he affected the run out after he saw Jonny Bairstow leaving the crease just after the ball he bowled. The keeper batter affected the direct hit and the England batter was nowhere near the crease. The umpires gave him out and he was fuming.

Ollie Robinson revealed that after the incident Stuart Broad, who walked out to bat next, gave it back to Australians and when he came back inside Joe Root praised him, saying he was the perfect guy for the occasion.

Writing in his column for Wisden, he explained: “Broady was straight on the field and there wasn’t a better man suited for that occasion, just giving it to the Aussies and telling them, ‘That’s all they’re going to be remembered for.’ When they came in, Rooty said, ‘You’re literally the perfect guy for this occasion.’

And he just got stuck into them. It was all over the media and we were laughing about it for days. He always has his teammates’ backs on the field and off the field.”

Stuart Broady and Jimmy, they’re making people laugh the whole time – Ollie Robinson

Ollie Robinson further went on to highlight the joyous nature of Stuart Broad, saying that he along with James Anderson made everyone laugh in the dressing room. He added that he feels sad that such things won’t happen now.

He explained: “In the changing room, he is the changing room. Broady and Jimmy, they’re making people laugh the whole time and I think that’s what’s going to be so sad for us – not having that anymore. The cricket was almost a secondary benefit of that dressing room atmosphere.”

Ashes 2023 ended in a draw with both the teams winning two games each. Stuart Broad also called time on his career after the last match. He ended with 604 wickets in his career.
