Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, has listed four batsmen whose styles he admires and enjoys watching. The fact that the Pakistani captain highlighted the players he admired shows that he values the aesthetics of batting. The captain has developed a reputation as a fashionable and technically adept batsman.

Azam has had a great career since making his debut for Pakistan in a One-Day International against Zimbabwe in Lahore over eight years ago.

Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand and one of cricket’s most renowned batsmen, was at the top of Azam’s list. Also highlighted was Abdullah Shafique, whose outstanding technique and graceful strokeplay have led to parallels to Azam himself.

“I try to follow the batting of most batters. I try to watch the highlights if I miss someone’s batting. Mostly, I really enjoy [watching] Kane Williamson. I also enjoy [watching] Abdullah Shafique, considering the way he plays and is a stylish batsman,” Babar Azam shared in an interview with Cricwick.

Joe Root, who was also known by the name of Babar Azam, is renowned for his great strokeplay and his capacity to score runs under any circumstance. Jos Buttler, an explosive English wicketkeeper-batsman who is renowned for his capacity to score runs swiftly and aggressively, was the final example Azam gave.

“Joe Root is also someone I enjoy watching [bat]. It is also exciting to watch Jos Buttler when he is on song,” Babar Azam concluded.

Raja pointed out that given the high-risk nature of the white-ball game, Babar Azam has shown a level of consistency that is actually astounding. This dependability is a result of Azam’s excellent technique and temperament, both of which are abundant.

“Babar Azam is no less than Don Bradman. In white-ball cricket, he has statistically become the best player in the world. I have never seen so much consistency from a player in such a risky format. The base of which is his technique and temperament. He has no technical issues, whether it is a grassy pitch or a pitch like Karachi, where bowlers generally struggle,” Raja said.

“Babar Azam is the fastest to 5000 ODI runs and has surpassed many legends like Viv Richards, which is a big achievement. He is the reason why Pakistan has become the number one team in the ODI rankings,” Raja concluded.

Azam made history by becoming the fastest hitter to reach 5000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs).
