Kane Williamson was sidelined from the game after suffering a knee injury in March 2023. After six months now, Kane got onto the field and batted against Pakistan in the warm-up game for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Kane Williamson scored 54 runs off 50 deliveries against the Pakistani side and soon after that retired himself to make way for other batters to showcase their talent. He hit eight boundaries in his innings and was looking in great touch after coming back from his knee injury.

New Zealand chased down the mammoth target of 346 set by Pakistan in just 43.4 overs and Kane Williamson was happy to be in the winning side and contributing to his team’s victory in the warm-up game against Pakistan.

Five months ago, the World Cup might have been far from reality for Kane Williamson and now he is on the field making runs. Rachin Ravindra, Mark Chapman, and Daryl Mitchell also scored a half-century alongside Kane Williamson in the warm-up game with Rachin scoring 97 missing on a well-deserved ton by just three runs.

Kane Williamson has still not fully recovered from his injury but he is pushing his buttons hard to contribute to his team. No one can forget his performance in the 2019 World Cup when he was the Player of The Tournament and took New Zealand to the finals of the World Cup but unfortunately ended up on the losing side.

Kane Williamson Had To Do Some Icing After Batting

“Just great to get through some batting out in the middle. It was nice to get some off the middle of the bat. Still some icing after it but it is a part of the process. It wasn’t a reality five months ago but to be named in the squad was exciting. Was really looking forward to getting out there tonight and was really nice to get on the field,” said Williamson.

New Zealand will play England in the World Cup opener on 5th October and before that, they still have one more warm-up game against South Africa. There are speculations that Kane Williamson might not play against England but all will depend on his condition after the warm-up game against South Africa. Meanwhile, in the absence of Kane Williamson, Tom Latham will lead the side as he did against Pakistan too with Kane only coming to bat and not to field.
