Star Indian batter Virat Kohli achieved significant milestones during the recently concluded ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Virat Kohli surpassed legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson for the most hours batted in a single World Cup edition.

Virat Kohli was the leading scorer in the World Cup 2023, amassing 765 runs in 11 matches at an impressive average of 95.62. Kohli notched up three centuries and six fifties during the tournament. He registered his 50th ODI World Cup in the semi-final against New Zealand.

The 35-year-old surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in the 50-over format in international cricket. The right-handed batter also broke Sachin’s record for the most runs scored in a single World Cup edition, accumulating 673 runs in the 2003 event.

Virat Kohli Breaks Kane Williamson’s Record

Virat Kohli set a new record for the most hours batted in a single edition, spending a total of 19 hours and 56 minutes at the crease. Kohli surpassed the previous record held by Kane Williamson, who batted for 18 hours and 51 minutes in the last edition of the World Cup.

Most Hours Batted In A World Cup Edition:

  • Virat Kohli – 19.56 hours (2023)
  • Kane Williamson – 18.51 hours (2019)
  • Sachin Tendulkar – 18.50 hours (2003)

Virat Kohli Wins Player Of The Tournament In World Cup 2023

Virat Kohli scored 54 runs in the World Cup final against Australia, but India failed to clinch the title. The Men in Blue were bowled for 240 runs in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. Australia successfully chased down the target with Travis Head’s remarkable century.

Kohli won the Player of the Tournament award but walked away without giving the customary post-match interview. The host, Ravi Shastri, was prepared for the interview, but Kohli chose to walk off after making eye contact after receiving it from BCCI President Roger Binny.

The Delhi-born cricketer might have participated in his last edition of the ODI World Cup. The veteran batter would be 38 years old for the next edition of the ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027.

Rohit Sharma didn’t hold back from carrying an aggressive approach in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He scored a brisk 47 off 31 deliveries before Travis Head caught a stunner off Glenn Maxwell’s delivery. However, Rohit Sharma broke another World Cup record in his innings of 47 against Australia in the finals.

Rohit Sharma broke New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson’s record of scoring the most runs in a single edition of the World Cup as a captain. Kane Williamson scored 578 runs in the 2019 edition of the World Cup as New Zealand’s captain. However, Rohit Sharma finished his batting campaign at the 2023 World Cup with 597 runs in 11 innings with an average of 54.27.

The Indian skipper provided the ‘much important’ start in the final powering India to a total of 80 runs in the first ten overs. He slammed four boundaries and three sixes in his innings and created a huge impact on India’s scorecard after Shubman Gill went back to the pavilion early on.

Rohit Sharma Tops The Elite List Of Captains Scoring Most Runs In World Cup

The list consists of big names like Ricky Ponting, AB de Villiers, Mahela Jayawardene, and Aaron Finch. After Rohit Sharma (597) and Kane Williamson (578), Mahela Jayawardene comes third on the list. The former Sri Lankan skipper scored 548 runs in the 2007 edition of the World Cup. He took Sri Lanka to the finals of the 2007 World Cup but lost to Australia.

After Mahela Jayawardene, comes the Aussie legend Ricky Ponting who scored 539 runs in the 2007 edition where Australia won the World Cup for a third consecutive time. Ricky Ponting is followed by another Australian skipper Aaron Finch who scored 507 runs in the 2019 edition of the World Cup while leading Australia to the semi-finals where they lost to arch-rivals England.

AB de Villiers follows next who scored 482 runs in the 2015 edition of the World Cup. In fact, he led South Africa to the semi-finals of the World Cup but eventually suffered a heartbreaking defeat against New Zealand. The ODI World Cup has seen a lot of captains leading their team from the front but Rohit Sharma has set an example that a selfless and aggressive approach can create a lasting impact on the team’s total.

The New Zealand camp reportedly raised concerns about Indian skipper Rohit Sharma‘s coin toss during the first semi-final match of the ICC World Cup 2023. Fox Cricket reported that Rohit Sharma’s coin tosses raised eyebrows within their team during the tournament.

Before the semi-final, controversy arose, with reports suggesting that the BCCI pressured the ICC to use a used playing surface instead of a fresh pitch. India remained unbeaten and secured a spot in the World Cup 2023 final by winning all 10 of their matches convincingly.

During the coin toss, Kane Williamson relied on the match referee’s decision as the coin had landed a few meters away. The match referee promptly declared that India had won the toss. Team India decided to bat first and posted a formidable total of 397-8 in 50 overs.

Don’t Let Other Captains See – Sikandar Bakht

Former Pakistan cricketer Sikandar Bakht claimed that Rohit Sharma intentionally threw the coin far during the toss to prevent New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson from seeing the outcome. Bakht said that Sharma consistently tossed the coin in a similar way.

“Can I give you a conspiracy theory?” Bakht said on Geo News. “At the time of the toss, Rohit Sharma throws the coin distant from the range of any opposition captain. Thus, the opposition captain cannot go and crosscheck about the call.”

“Very strange the way Rohit Sharma throws the coin at the toss, far away, don’t let other captains see, compared to other captains in the WC, any reason?” he posted on X.

Rohit Sharma recorded five wins and five losses in tosses during the marquee tournament. Rohit does not raise any suspicion of wrongdoing by him or the match referee. The consistent outcomes emphasize fair play in the toss decisions throughout the tournament.

Who Decides Where The Coin Should Land? – Wasim Akram

Speaking on A Sports’ show “The Pavilion”, legendary pacer Wasim Akram dismissed the conspiracy theory about Rohit Sharma fixing tosses, labeling it embarrassing. Akram criticized the notion that Sharma intentionally throws the coin far.

“Who says ki coin ne kaha land karna hai? Ye kisne kaha hai ki usne waha par coin fenkna hai? Vo toh sponsorship ke liye hai, dikhane ke liye hai. Kahi bhi chala jaye. I feel embarrassed (Who decides where the coin should land? It is just for sponsorship! I feel embarrassed),” Akram said.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson reacted on Virat Kohli breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most centuries in the ODIs. He said that he couldn’t put it in words and while praising the Indian batter hailed him as the best in the world.

Virat Kohli etched his name in the record books as he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most centuries in the ODIs. The batter slammed his 50th ton in the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2023 against New Zealand in Mumbai.

Virat Kohli, who is the leading run-getter in the World Cup 2023, continued his dream run and stepped up for his team on the biggest stage. The right-hander held one end for his team and played blistering strokes all over the park, that powered the team to the big total.

Virat Kohli scored runs all over the park and ended with a knock of 117 runs. This was his third ton in the tournament and he also crossed 700 run-mark in the tournament with his knock in Mumbai. His innings powered the team to a big total of 397 runs and subsequently helped them win the game by 70 runs.

Kane Williamson was asked about Virat Kohli breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Replying to this, he said that the Indian batter is getting better, which is a worry for the opposition. He highlighted his match-winning ability and stated:

“(I am) trying to find the words to describe it really, and not just that, actually the way he goes about it, it is about winning games for his team and he is getting close and there is a lot of attention and that comes with a lot of his success. He is the best, isn’t he? And he seems to be getting better, which is a worry for opposition all around the world, but you admire it.”

Sachin Tendulkar Reacts To Virat Kohli Breaking His Record

Sachin Tendulkar, who was present in the stands,  lauded Virat Kohli for his stupendous innings and recalled how he was pranked when he first entered the dressing room. He said that he couldn’t be happier that the young boy turned into a ‘Virat’ batter. Taking to his X account, he stated:

“The first time I met you in the Indian dressing room, you were pranked by other teammates into touching my feet. I couldn’t stop laughing that day. But soon, you touched my heart with your passion and skill.

“I am so happy that that young boy has grown into a ‘Virat’ player. I couldn’t be happier that an Indian broke my record. And to do it on the biggest stage – in the World Cup Semi-final – and at my home ground is the icing on the cake.”

Virat Kohli will be next seen in action when India will play final on 19th October in Ahmedabad.

"Pretty Good Surface Really"- Kane Williamson Reacts To Playing On A "Used Wicket"

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson played down talks of doctored pitches as he labelled the Wankhede track as a “good surface” putting an end to all the criticism of playing on a used pitch.

India defeated New Zealand New Zealand by 70 runs in the first semi-final on Wednesday, with more than 700 runs scored in the match. India scored 397/4 batting first. In reply, the Kiwis scored 327 before being bowled out.

There were rumours that the pitch was changed after consultation from the Indian management to change the game in India’s favour. However, Kane Williamson spoke about the pitch putting all doubts to rest saying that it was a pretty good surface.

“No, I mean, yeah it was a used wicket, but a pretty good surface really, as we saw. I mean, they got plenty out of it in the first half of the match. And conditions, I guess they change as they go under lights and things, and that’s what we’ve seen throughout this competition. That’s fine, that’s what you expect and they played really well. So yeah, I mean it’s disappointing to get to this stage and not go further, but also at the same time you sort of reflect on the seven weeks rather than a couple of small moments and we lost to a better side,” he said, responding to a reporter’s question.

They’re The Best Team In The World: Kane Williamson Lauds India

He further credited the Indian team as the ‘the best team in the world’ saying that they will enter the final with full confidence.

“They’re the best team in the world and they’re all playing their best cricket, so that’s tough. And I think we see in cricket – often it’s surrounded with failure and how you deal with it. The way they’ve played throughout this tournament has been incredible. They haven’t missed a beat really and to come into a semi-final, you go through your round-robin and you try and get to the stage and it starts again but the way they came out and played, yeah, shows the mindset that they have and the space that they’re in and I’ve got no doubt they’ll go into that next match full of confidence,” said the Kiwi skipper.

Australia and South Africa play the second semi-final in Kolkata on Thursday. The winner of that game will play against India in the World Cup final on Sunday.

"Uska Catch Chuta Bohut Kharab Laga"- Mohammed Shami On Dropping Kane Williamson

Mohammed Shami picked up 7/57 in the first semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai on Wednesday to help India reach the finals. In the process, he became the quickest to get to 50 wickets in the World Cup in just 17 innings.

Shami now has 54 wickets at an average of 12.90, an economy rate of over 5, and a strike rate of 15.33. He also has four fifers in World Cup matches surpassing Mitchell Starc’s three.

Though the Indian pacer turned out to be a hero in the game, there was a moment where he turned from hero to zero. He dropped Kane Williamson’s catch in the 29th over of the Kiwi innings to put the Indian fans into silence at the Wankhede. It was a regulation chance that he dropped at mid-on. Williamson just crossed 50 at that point and there was a chance to end his partnership with Daryl Mitchell.

Speaking after the match, Shami opened up on the drop catch saying that he should not have dropped the catch at the crucial juncture of the game.

“Uska catch chhuta, bohut kharab laga. Wo catch nahi chhutna chahie tha (I felt very bad when I dropped his catch. I shouldn’t have dropped it),” Shami said.

However, he came back and took two wickets in the 33rd over to turn the game in India’s favor. He dismissed Williamson and Tom Latham in back-to-back deliveries to bring India back into the game.

“The focus was to try and take pace off, see if they’re hitting it in the air. It was a chance we had to take” he said about the bowling plan.

I Believe in Getting Wickets With The New Ball: Mohammed Shami

Shami did not play in the first four games for India. He has picked up 23 wickets in the next six games and is the to-wicket taker in the tournament currently. broke a plethora of records in the process and made the Indian bowling attack stand out. He also now has the best figures for an Indian bowler in World Cups and the most fifers in World Cups as well.

“My return started against New Zealand. We talk a lot of variations, but I still believe in pitching it up and getting wickets with the new ball” Shami spoke about his bowling,

The 1st semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 saw the high-octane clash between Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Kane Williamson-led New Zealand National Cricket Team at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, November 15.

India National Cricket Team finished the league stage at the No.1 position with 18 points as they won 9 matches on the trot. New Zealand National Cricket Team, on the other hand, finished the group stage at the No.4 spot with 10 points as they won 5 matches.

Meanwhile, India National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. The Men In Blue and the Black Caps fielded the same playing XI from their previous matches.

Batting first, Rohit Sharma once again provided India with a flying start. He showed sheer class and pushed New Zealand on the backfoot with his 47-run knock. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli capitalized on the start provided by the Indian captain and played stupendous innings.

Shubman Gill (80*) got retired hurt and wasn’t able to hit a century. However, Virat Kohli (117) and Shreyas Iyer (105) smashed sensational centuries. Kohli created history with his knock as this was his 50th ODI ton. In the end, KL Rahul (39) provided a finishing touch to help India post a mammoth total of 397/4 on the board.

Defending the target, ‘Sensational’ Mohammed Shami dismissed the New Zealand openers Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway to provide India with a terrific start.

However, after that, Daryl Mitchell and Kane Williamson showcased a batting masterclass and played remarkable innings. Together they added an outstanding 181 runs in 149 balls.

When India were in the backfoot, Rohit Sharma once again brought Shami back in and the pacer repaid the faith of his skipper. He dismissed the star batsman Kane Williamson (69) to provide a crucial breakthrough to India.

After that, Daryl Mitchell (134) fought a remarkable battle, but he didn’t get the much-needed support from the other end. He was also dismissed by Shami.

In the end, the Black Caps were bundled out for 327 in 48.5 overs, with Mohammed Shami finishing things off for India. Shami registered exceptional figures of 9.5-0-57-7. Also, India won the match by a good margin of 70 runs to secure a place in the final of the competition.

Rohit Sharma looked in ecstatic touch in the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2023 against New Zealand. The Indian skipper gave his team a rollicking start at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where he won the toss and opted to bat first.

Rohit Sharma came out all guns blazing and made a statement right from the first over. The opening batter took the attack to the Kiwi bowlers and made sure that he took his side off the flyer in the high-pressure semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2023.

Rohit Sharma played some blistering strokes and that brought a sense of calm in the Indian dressing room. With the way he was batting, it seemed that he would end with a big score. But he was undone by the brilliance of Kane Williamson in the field.

Rohit Sharma tried to smash Tim Southee out of the park. It was a slower delivery from him and the Indian skipper wanted to drill it down the ground. However, he couldn’t get the long handle to slam it big. The ball went too high and it seemed it would land in no man’s land.

But Kane Williamson ran back from mid-off and got under it to take a superb catch. The New Zealand skipper was back-pedalling and he controlled it beautifully to see the back of the dangerous Rohit Sharma.

New Zealand Playing 11 vs India – ICC World Cup 2023, Semi-Final 1

New Zealand goes face to face with India in the first semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Mumbai. The Kiwis won their last match against Sri Lanka to qualify for the semis. They have had an up-and-down tournament through the league stage.

Cricket experts believe that the Kiwis lack momentum heading into this big semi-final despite winning their last game against Sri Lanka in emphatic fashion. NZ won their first four games and then lost their next four games before picking up a crucial win against the Lankans.

The Kiwis lost to Australia by a close margin of five runs and then also lost against Pakistan despite scoring over 400 runs with the bat. Against South Africa, they suffered a 190-run loss as they were bundled out for 167 chasing a mammoth 358.

They have looked at two different sides when they have won and lost games respectively. The advantage they have over India is the fact that they have defeated the Men in Blue in the previous semi-final and the bowlers are well aware of the weakness of the Indian batters.

The match will be played in Mumbai, a track that has assisted the pacers in the first 10 overs as India proved in the match against Sri Lanka. For The Kiwis to win the game they need to put early pressure on the Indian batters inside the first powerplay.

Talking about the predicted playing XI, the only change that is possible in this match is James Neesham being replaced by Mark Cahampam in this game as the latter did not have a good game against Sri Lanka.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson talked about the injury to Hardik Pandya in the ICC World Cup 2023. He admitted that it disrupted the balance of the Indian team but the Rohit Sharma-led have adjusted well even after facing a big blow.

Hardik Pandya suffered an ankle injury midway through the tournament and was ruled out of the competition. The all-rounder was deemed unfit to take part in the event further and it’s fair to say that it disrupted the balance of the team as they lacked 6th bowler.

However, India adjusted to that pretty well as they played magnificently well and didn’t need 6th bowler at all. Suryakumar with bat and Mohammed Shami with ball chipped in and helped the team be dominant in the tournament.

India won 9 out of their 9 games in the ICC World Cup 2023 and were undefeated in the league stage. But the bigger challenge awaits them as they will be facing Kane Williamson’s New Zealand in the semi-final of the tournament on 15th November at Wankhede.

Kane Williamson is aware of the balance India have without Hardik Pandya. But he also admitted that India have adjusted nicely even without the all-rounder. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“Every team has a slightly different balance. The injury to Hardik changed the balance a bit but certainly didn’t change the outcomes. They have nicely adjusted.”

Kane Williamson also talked about the challenge his side will be facing against India. He admitted that Men in Blue are the best team in the tournament and it’ll be tough to face them. He explained:

“India is a great challenge, they are one of the best teams, if not the best currently”.

IND vs NZ: He knows the venue well – Kane Williamson on Suryakumar Yadav

Kane Williamson also talked about Suryakumar Yadav, who will be playing the game at his home ground and has done some great things at the venue. He admitted that the batter knows the venue well but they want to focus on their cricket. He added:

“Great player, great stroke maker. He knows the venue well. But we want to focus on our cricket.”

Kane Williamson was further asked about playing extra seamer in Kyle Jamieson for the clash against India. Replying to this, he said that they would be assessing the conditions before naming the XI. He stated:

“We’ll have to look at the surface and assess from here.”

Kyle Jamieson was added to the New Zealand squad after Matt Henry was ruled out of the tournament. India notably defeated New Zealand in the league stage of the tournament at the Dharamsala.

The much-anticipated semi-final between India and New Zealand is just one sleep away from now. The match will take place at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday (15th November). It’ll be a repeat of the 2019 World Cup semi-final, where the Kiwis thumped Men in Blue.

Going into the match, New Zealand will have the upper hand as they have thumped India almost every time in ICC events. Their record over Men in Blue is haunting for Indian fans and they would be optimistic about doing good in the semi-final.

New Zealand have always been a danger for India and it won’t be a surprise if they upset Indian fans again. Skipper Kane Williamson will be one of the crucial players for his team in the big clash. He too has a great record against Men in Blue and would be hoping to do the same.

Kane Williamson while talking about the clash highlighted the challenge that will be facing and said that they are fortunate that they will be playing at iconic Wankhede Stadium. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“It’s good, yeah. Not many people get the chance to play cricket in this stadium and on this occasion. It’s going to be a tough challenge. They are playing some good cricket but it’s all about one day. We have played some good cricket. We are excited.”

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson expressed excitement at the possibility of facing the Indian team in the semi-final stage of the ICC World Cup 2023. Kane Williamson described the match as a noteworthy prospect they look forward to in the ongoing World Cup.

New Zealand almost secured a semi-final spot after defeating Sri Lanka in the final league match by five wickets in Bengaluru on Thursday, November 9. The Black Caps achieved 10 points from nine league games, maintaining the fourth spot in the 10-team points table.

Playing The Home Team Will Be Challenging – Kane Williamson

Speaking after their win over Sri Lanka, Kane Williamson emphasized the challenge of playing the home team in the knockout stages of the prestigious tournament.

“Hopefully we can get a couple of days off, we’ll be hanging around, not really sure what we’ll do. Playing semis is special, but playing the home team will be challenging. Looking forward to it if we are fortunate enough to have it,” Kane Williamson said.

New Zealand successfully chased down 172 runs on target in 23.2 overs, bolstering their net run rate. If they secure a spot, the Kiwis will face India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 15. Pakistan and Afghanistan need to register massive wins to qualify.

Hard To Read Such Things – Kane Williamson

Williamson praised the team’s performance, noting that the pitch was slowing down. The skipper was impressed with the team’s intent in the later stages of the chase, calling it a great overall performance.

“Really good performance. Early wickets and spin was a challenge through those middle overs. The pitch really slowed down later. The guys showed some good intent later with the chase so great performance overall. We thought there was going to be some weather later but there wasn’t any. Hard to read such things,” Williamson added.

Trent Boult took three early wickets and set the tone for the match, crippling Sri Lanka’s top order. They bowled out the opposition team for 171 runs after opting to bowl first. Openers Devon Conway and Rachindra Ravindra laid a strong foundation for the victory.

A New Zealand National Cricket Team player getting angry on the field is something that fans don’t see very often and one such incident involving Mark Chapman happened during the 41st match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, November 9.

New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. The New Zealand bowling unit dominated and rattled the Sri Lankan batters. All the batters, barring Kusal Perera, were dismissed without making any good contribution and Sri Lanka were reduced to 9-128.

It looked like the Kusal Mendis-led side would get bundled out under 140, but the partnership between the tailenders – Maheesh Theekshana and Dilshan Madushanka – made sure that didn’t happen. The duo added 43 runs in 87 balls, to frustrate the opposition team and help Sri Lanka reach 171 in 46.4 overs.

Chasing the target, the famed top-order provided the Black Caps with a really good start. Next came Daryl Mitchell and Mark Chapman, who had to take up the responsibility to finish up the game quickly. However, both the players got out, with Mark Chapman being the first one.

On the 3rd ball of the 21st over, Mark Chapman played an Angelo Mathews delivery towards backward point. His partner Daryl Mitchell took off for a single and he denied the run after agreeing initially. Both the players were found at the same end and Chapman decided to sacrifice his wicket.

Mark Chapman was livid after his dismissal and he showed his displeasure at Mitchell before walking off and smashing the bat into the turf. He was back in the hut after scoring just 7 runs off 6 balls.

In the end, New Zealand won the match by 5 wickets to almost seal their place in the semi-finals. Speaking after the game, Kiwi captain Kane Williamson said that they performed really well. He said:

“Really good performance. Early wickets and spin was a challenge through those middle overs. Pitch really slowed down later. The guys showed some good intent later with the chase so great performance overall. We thought there was going to be some weather later but there wasn’t any. Hard to read such things.”

Kane Williamson added that it was a great effort overall from his team and said that they are looking forward to the semi-final challenge. He said:

“Glad we were able to pick up wickets, people like Perera can take the game away from you. Always great getting our 5th and 6th spinners into the game, a great effort overall. Few teams can end up on the same points, it’s about control. Hopefully we can get a couple of days off, we’ll be hanging around, not really sure what we’ll do. Hopefully if things go our way, would be great to involved in a semi. Will be looking forward to the challenge.”

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was left embarrassed after Daryl Mitchell convinced him to take a bizarre DRS against Sri Lanka. The ongoing 41st game of the ICC World Cup 2023 is taking place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

The New Zealand Cricket Team are having a stupendous time in the must-win clash for them. They have oozed their class with the ball and have made a mockery of the Sri Lanka batting lineup. Amid all the seriousness in the game, there have been a few hilarious moments as well.

Then the incident took place on the 4th ball of the 24th over. Lockie Ferguson bowled a low full-toss to Dushmantha Chameera. The batter defended and got a massive inside edge. Daryl Mitchell, who was in the slips, was sure that it was out. He convinced skipper Kane Williamson to take the review.

However, as the replays were shown on the big screen, the New Zealand team were embarrassed. Skipper Kane Williamson in particular looked sheepish as he hid his face. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips gave a disappointing reaction.

Kane Williamson overall has been spot on with his captaincy in the game. Almost everything that has been touched has turned into gold. Every bowler, barring Glenn Phillips, has taken wickets and has put the team in the rollicking position. They look like favorites to win the game. A win here would almost take them to the semi-final of the tournament.

Trent Boult has picked three wickets whereas Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee also combined to pick three scalps. Mitchell Santner also has bagged two wickets along with Rachin Ravindra, who picked one. New Zealand reduced Sri Lanka to 128/9.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was at his hilarious best during the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 game against Sri Lanka. The match between the two teams is taking place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

New Zealand have asserted their authority over Sri Lanka in the ongoing game. The Kiwis have been right on the money with the ball and their intensity has been at the top as well. However, there was a moment of joy as well that left many in splits and skipper Kane Williamson was the architect behind it.

As Angelo Mathews came out to bat, Kane Williamson went close to him and asked if he had his helmet strap correct or not. It happened during the 9th over when the Sri Lanka batter came out. He along with the New Zealand skipper then shared the light moment before taking the guard.

Here’s the video:

For unversed, Angelo Mathews was termed timed out in the game against Bangladesh. As he walked out to bat in that game, the strap of his helmet broke before taking the guard. In the meantime, Shakib Al Hasan appealed and he was deemed timed out.

Angelo Mathews didn’t have a great outing in the ongoing game against Sri Lanka. The all-rounder tried to bail the team out of trouble but couldn’t as he perished early. He scored 16 runs off 27 balls. He also smashed 2 fours before getting dismissed to Mitchell Santner.

NZ vs SL: Kane Williamson’s Army right on top against Sri Lanka

Kane Williamson and company are having a great time in the ongoing game against Sri Lanka. They won the toss and opted to field first. However, after that, it has all been about them as they have bowled staggering lines and lengths and have put Sri Lanka on the back foot.

New Zealand take on Sri Lanka in match 41 of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Bengaluru. The match starts at 2 p.m. with the Kiwis facing a must-win situation. They lost their previous game against Pakistan in Bengaluru.

The loss to Pakistan in the previous game has meant that their last game against Sri Lanka is a must-win if they are to make the semi-final. A win will secure a place in the semi-final. The Kiwis lost to Pakistan despite scoring over 400 runs in the game against Pakistan.

New Zealand won their first four games and then got into a losing streak since their loss against India. They lost closely to Australia and were, unfortunately, to lose on the DLS method against the Men in Green.

The two teams have played over 100 ODIs with New Zealand winning 51 games and Sri Lanka winning 41 games. However, in World Cup matches, Sri Lanka are ahead of than Kiwis on the head-to-head count.

The Kiwis scored over 400 ruins in the match against Bengaluru in the last game. They should target something similar against a depleted Sri Lankan bowling attack.

The only concern in the game is rain which is expected to play spoilsport. There is a forecast of rain throughout next week with Thursday expected to see a 90 percent chance of rain throughout the day. They already lost a match on the DRS count against Pakistan. A loss against Sri Lanka might make their qualification difficult.

Kane Williamson hasn’t put a wrong foot in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 game against Pakistan. The 35th game of the tournament is currently taking place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which has seen a festival of runs so far.

After setting a gigantic target of 402 runs, New Zealand started the second innings on a high note. Premier pacer Tim Southee removed Abdhulla Shafique in the second over the game. But the credit for that goes to skipper Kane Williamson, who produced a staggering effort on the field.

Tim Southee bowled a full and wide of off delivery with a hint of away swing. Abdullah Shafique tried to go over the covers with a loft but he didn’t get his timing right. The ball hit the lower half of the bat and was heading towards the left of mid-off. It seemed that the ball would land safely but Kane Williamson grabbed a staggering catch.

Kane Williamson rushed back first and then realized he needed to put in a dive. He put in a great dive and gobbled the catch with his right shoulder whilst on the slide. The skipper potentially took a catch of the tournament and helped his team get off to a great start.

Here’s the video:

Abdullah Shafique scored just 4 runs off 9 balls. New Zealand would be hoping to cash on the start they got and pick early wickets. A win here would almost ensure them a place in the semi-final. Their victory would eliminate, Pakistan, England, and Sri Lanka from the tournament.

NZ vs PAK: Kane Williamson scores 95 runs with the injured thumb

Kane Williamson, who sustained a thumb injury early on in the tournament, batted with the taped finger in the game against Pakistan. He oozed his class staggeringly well and played a magnificent innings in a crucial encounter at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

Kane Williamson had a heartbreak as he missed a well-deserved century by just 5 runs. The New Zealand skipper scored 95 runs off 79 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 120.25 and also smashed 10 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. His knock powered Kiwis to a total of 401 runs on the board.

Kane Williamson, on Saturday (November 4), made his much-awaited return to New Zealand’s playing eleven for their crucial clash against Pakistan in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

He missed the first two games of his team because he was not yet match-fit after recovering from the ACL injury he sustained in an IPL match in March of this year. In his absence, New Zealand thrashed defending champions England by 9 wickets before beating the Netherlands by 99 runs. He finally made his much-anticipated return to action for the game against Bangladesh and hit the ground running.

In his comeback game, the New Zealand skipper scored 78 before sustaining a thumb injury that sidelined him once again. He took a blow on his thumb from a throw while completing a run and scans later revealed that the star batsman had suffered a fracture. The fractured thumb forced him to miss his team’s next 4 games as well.

Kane Williamson creates history:

Playing without their talismanic captain, New Zealand suffered three defeats in a row to find themselves in a spot of bother. The ongoing game against Pakistan is pretty much a do-or-die game for them and Kane Williamson made a timely return to action.

And the way he returned to action, not many would say that he was sidelined for so long. The right-handed batsman played a brilliant knock of 95 runs and shared a big stand of 180 runs with Rachin Ravindra for the second wicket to put his team in the driver’s seat after Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first.

During the knock, Kane Williamson also scripted history as he broke the record for most runs by a New Zealand player in an ODI World Cup. He also became just the third player from his country to reach the 1000-run mark in the ODI World Cup. The record was previously held by former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming who scored 1075 runs.

The 95-run knock saw Kane Williamson finish his innings against Pakistan with 1084 World Cup runs. Ross Taylor is third in the list with 1002 runs followed by Martin Guptill (995 runs) and Scott Styris (909 runs).

New Zealand Skipper Kane Williamson

The recent update on Kane Williamson’s injury by New Zealand’s Head Coach, Gary Stead, has left cricket enthusiasts on the edge of their seats as the Kiwis prepare to take on Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Everyone is speculating about Kane’s arrival in the next game as New Zealand finds themselves in a tricky situation

Gary Stead’s words shed light on Kane Williamson’s injury status, revealing that the New Zealand skipper has been cautiously easing back into practice. Although Williamson has managed to face a few deliveries, the fact that he still experiences some discomfort in his thumb raises concerns about his readiness for the upcoming clash against Pakistan.

The thumb injury, sustained by Kane Williamson, has been the subject of much speculation and anxiety for New Zealand fans. Williamson is not only the captain but also a talismanic figure in the New Zealand cricket setup. His skill, composure, and leadership are pivotal to the team’s success, and his absence could be a significant blow.

Gary Stead stated, “Kane Williamson had a couple of hits not at full intensity, he’s still getting a little bit of pain through his thumb but he’s improving day by day. We’re hopeful he’ll be alright when we test it out tomorrow when we get to Bangalore.”

Kane Williamson’s Absence Has Affected New Zealand’s Performance

The situation is further compounded by New Zealand’s recent string of losses in the World Cup. Three consecutive defeats have cast a shadow of doubt over their campaign. Their upcoming match against Pakistan is not only critical for their hopes of advancing in the tournament but also for Pakistan’s aspirations.

The points table in the World Cup is a reflection of the high stakes involved. Pakistan, currently on the cusp of the top four, knows that a victory over New Zealand by a margin of 85 runs could catapult them into the coveted fourth spot, while New Zealand would find themselves in fifth place.

This sets the stage for a nail-biting encounter. New Zealand must weigh the risks of playing an injured Williamson against the necessity of securing a victory to get their campaign back on track. On the other hand, Pakistan will be determined to capitalize on any potential weaknesses in the New Zealand squad, exploiting the situation to their advantage.

The fate of both teams in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 hangs in the balance. As cricket fans eagerly await the clash in Bangalore, all eyes will be on the condition of Kane Williamson’s thumb and how this crucial injury update will impact the outcome of the match. In the unpredictable world of cricket, one can never underestimate the influence of such developments on the final results of the game.

Kane Williamson will not be making his much-awaited return to action in the upcoming game between New Zealand and South Africa in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

The New Zealand captain has played just one game in the tournament so far due to injuries. In his absence, Tom Latham has been leading the team. He was not a part of the playing XI for New Zealand’s first two games against England and the Netherlands as he was still not match-fit after recovering from an ACL tear that he had sustained during the IPL opener in late March this year.

After being sidelined for almost six months, Kane Williamson made his much-anticipated return to action during the game against Bangladesh and scored a brilliant fifty before suffering another injury. While taking a quick single, he received a painful blow on his thumb from a throw. X-ray scans later revealed an ‘undisplaced fracture’ in his left thumb.

Kane Williamson out of South Africa clash:

Kane Williamson sustained the injury on October 13 and reports suggested that he would be fit to play by the end of the month. As a result, he was expected to play in the upcoming game against South Africa, scheduled to take place on Wednesday (November 1).

But a few hours before the start of the game, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has confirmed that their star batsman won’t be taking part in the game. NZC delivered a positive update too, stating that Kane Williams batted in the nets but is still not fit to play in a competitive match. He will undergo another assessment before New Zealand’s next game which is against Pakistan.

“Kane Williamson has been ruled out of Wednesday’s match against @ProteasMenCSA. Williamson has batted in the nets the last two days but has been ruled out of a return to match action tomorrow,” read the statement from NZC.

“He will be assessed again ahead of the side’s next match against @TheRealPCB,” added the statement.

Meanwhile, New Zealand will be desperate to get back to winning ways after losing their last two games. The Black Caps began their campaign with four wins in a row before losing against India and Australia. While they are still looking set to make it to the semifinals, another defeat could very well put them in a spot of bother. They are currently in the third spot in the points table with 4 wins and 2 losses.

New Zealand stand-in captain Tom Latham has provided injury updates on key players, including Lockie Ferguson, Kane Williamson, and Mark Chapman. Tom Latham mentioned that they are currently monitoring the conditions and the recovery of these injured players.

The Black Caps have been plagued by injuries since the start of the ongoing World Cup 2023. Kane Williamson missed the first two matches of the tournament but made a comeback against Bangladesh. He suffered an injury to his left thumb while running between the wickets.

Tearaway pacer Lockie Ferguson faced injury troubles during the tournament when he left the field after bowling three overs against Australia. He conceded 38 runs in his spell and didn’t come to bowl further. The bowler experienced severe pain in his right Achilles.

Lockie Ferguson Will Be Fine For Tomorrow – Tom Latham

In a pre-match press conference, Tom Latham addressed the status of key players Lockie Ferguson, Kane Williamson, and Mark Chapman. Latham expressed hope that Ferguson would be fit and available for the selection for the upcoming game.

“Yeah, just as I said before, there’s Lockie, Kane and Mark Chapman. We’ll obviously get through hopefully a bit of work today and then we’ll see how they pull up from a selection point of view. But yeah, obviously, Lockie went off in the last game with a bit of Achilles’ niggle, so fingers crossed he’ll be fine for tomorrow,” said Latham.

The Kiwi team started the ongoing marquee tournament with four consecutive victories. However, they failed to continue winning momentum and suffered defeats against India and Australia, respectively. They need to win at least two games to advance to the semifinals.

New Zealand Skipper Kane Williamson

Injured Black Caps captain Kane Williamson has taken a significant step towards his recovery from a thumb fracture that has sidelined him for the last two Cricket World Cup matches.

Providing an update upon the team’s arrival in Pune for their upcoming match against South Africa, coach Gary Stead expressed optimism about Kane Williamson’s progress. He revealed, “Kane Williamson hit cricket balls for the first time yesterday, which is encouraging. It was a low-intensity session, but he is scheduled to train tomorrow and the day after, with the possibility of making himself available for the upcoming game.”

The decision regarding his availability, according to Stead, hinges on how Williamson fares during the next couple of days of practice. He explained, “Whether he can play or not will depend on how he performs in the training sessions over the next two days.”

Kane Williamson suffered a fractured left thumb when he was struck by a painful blow from an errant throw while running between the wickets in a match against Bangladesh. Despite the injury, the 33-year-old continued to bat for a few overs, but with New Zealand well on course to chase down Bangladesh’s 245-9, he eventually left the field to undergo an X-ray, which confirmed the fracture.

In Addition To Kane Williamson, Lockie Ferguson, And Mark Chapman Are Also Suffering From Injuries

In addition to Kane Williamson’s situation, fast bowler Lockie Ferguson and all-rounder Mark Chapman are also grappling with injuries. Stead provided updates on their conditions.

Ferguson was forced to leave the field against Australia due to a suspected Achilles injury, which was later confirmed. Stead remarked, “He’s feeling slightly better today, and tomorrow morning in Pune, he will undergo a scan. We’ll have a clearer picture of his return to play, but we’re hopeful it might be around a week. This issue has troubled him in the past, and it has resurfaced at an unfortunate time.”

Chapman’s calf injury was described as a “niggle,” and while Stead couldn’t provide a precise timeline for his return, he indicated that Chapman’s progress was positive. “He’s been dealing with a calf niggle, and we’re uncertain about his availability for the next game. However, he’s making good progress, and he’s not far from being considered for selection again.”

Reflecting on the record-breaking match against Australia, Stead lauded it as “incredible.” The game witnessed the highest combined run total in a Cricket World Cup match, with both teams scoring heavily. Stead noted, “It was an extraordinary cricket match. Scoring 380 against 370 is quite remarkable. The game was high-scoring and full of drama. Australia got off to a flying start, and we didn’t perform at our best.”

Despite the challenges, Stead expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. He acknowledged that they missed several relatively straightforward catches but commended the efforts of certain players during the middle overs. In response to Australia’s imposing total, the Black Caps fell just five runs short of victory, with Stead stating, “With the bat, I don’t think we could have asked for much more.”

New Zealand will now face South Africa on Tuesday in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The match will be played at the MCA Stadium, Pune.

Virat Kohli and Babar Azam

Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam expressed his admiration for the remarkable skills of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Kane Williamson. Babar Azam expressed his desire to learn from their ability to rescue the team from challenging situations against quality attacks.

Babar Azam is currently leading the Pakistan national cricket team in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. The Men in Green are struggling to meet expectations, having won only one of their five games. The team currently occupies the sixth position in the 10-team points table.

They’re The Top Players In The World – Babar Azam

In a recent interview with Star Sports, Babar Azam lauded Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Kane Williamson for their ability to rescue their respective teams from challenging situations and excel against formidable bowling attacks.

“Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Kane Williamson are my favorite batters in the world. They’re the top players in the world. They read the conditions well, that’s why they are the best. I admire them,” Babar told Star Sports.

“The best thing I like about Virat, Rohit and Kane is how they get the team out of difficult situations and score runs against tough bowling. This is what I try to learn from them,” he further said.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have excelled as consistent performers for the Indian team, which remains unbeaten in the ongoing World Cup. In contrast, Kane Williamson has faced challenges due to injuries and hasn’t been a regular part of New Zealand’s playing XI.

Pakistan Suffer A One Wicket Loss Against South Africa

Pakistan lost a closely contested game to South Africa in their recent match in the prestigious tournament. Despite Adian Markram’s impressive 91 runs, South Africa struggled during their chase. However, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi secured a one-wicket victory.

Babar Azam has accumulated 207 runs in six innings at an average of 34.50, with a high score of 74 runs. However, his three fifty-plus scores have been in vain, as the Men in Green lost each game. His strike rate of 76.92 has drawn attention to potential improvement.

Former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond has revealed his favorite captain from the 10 captains who are leading their respective teams in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Captains in the World Cup:

A total of ten teams are participating in the ongoing World Cup – India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, England, Netherlands and Bangladesh. The ten teams are led by some of the best players in the world such as Rohit Sharma, Jos Buttler, Babar Azam, and Shakib Al Hasan.

At present, Rohit Sharma-led India are in the second spot with 5 wins from 5 games. On the other hand, South Africa, who have been led by both Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram, are at the second spot, followed by New Zealand who are being led by Tom Latham in the absence of Kane Williamson. Australia are in the fourth and final qualification spot.

Shane Bond’s favorite captain:

Shane Bond recently took part in a rapid-fire game on ESPNcricinfo. He was given two options and he had to pick one of them. At first, he was asked to pick between Babar and Netherlands captain Scott Edwards, and the Kiwi great went for the latter.

He then picked Jos Buttler over Edwards as well as over Hashmatullah Shahidi, Kusal Mendis, and Shakib Al Hasan. And when he was asked to pick between Buttler and Rohit Sharma, he went for the India captain. Between Rohit and Temba Bavuma, he stuck with the former.

After that, he had to pick between Rohit and his compatriot Tom Lathan and he picked the latter. Between Latham and Pat Cummins, he stuck with Latham. In the end, he was asked to pick between Latham and Williamson and he came up with a smart answer, saying: “He’s (Williamson) not playing, Tom Latham.”

Meanwhile, Shane Bond recently ended his long association with Mumbai Indians franchise and has joined Rajasthan Royals ahead of the next season of the IPL. He has joined the team in the dual role of assistant coach and fast bowling coach.

AUS vs NED Live Streaming In India Channel, OTT- When And Where To Watch Australia vs Netherlands World Cup Match 2023? Match 24. Australia and Netherlands square off with each other in their next match in ICC World Cup 2023. AUS vs NED encounter takes place on Wednesday, October 25 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Arun Jaitley Stadium has already witnessed two historical events in ICC World Cup 2023. South Africa posted the highest-ever World Cup total of 428 against Sri Lanka at the stadium. Afghanistan outplayed England by 69 runs to register their first-ever victory in ICC World Cup 2023.
Hence, Netherlands vs Australia looks like an entertaining encounter to look forward to. While the Netherlands and Australia have only played two ODI games with each other, they did play a warm-up match ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023.
The match was reduced to 23 overs per side due to rain. Batting first, Steve Smith (55) and Cameron Green (34) took the scoreboard to 166-7 till the final ball. Later, Mitchell Starc grabbed a hat-trick in 2nd over of the match itself.
Losing three crucial batters Max ODowd (0) Wesley Barresi (0), and Bas de Leede (0) for ducks, Netherlands’ batting fell like a house of cards. Colin Ackermann scored an unbeaten 31 runs later. However, since the rain affected the match in the 15th over, it ended with no result.

Kane Williamson

New Zealand National Cricket Team captain Kane Williamson turned into a water boy for the Kiwis in the 21st match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, October 22.

Kane Williamson is not playing today’s match against the Men In Blue as he is not fit to compete. The Kiwi skipper is nursing a fracture to his thumb, which he suffered during the match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on October 13.

He is set to miss a few more matches for New Zealand and is expected to be fit for the latter half of the competition. In his place, Tom Latham has taken charge of the team and has done a brilliant job. Also, Tom Blundell has been called up as an unofficial cover for the World Cup.

Although Kane Williamson is not being able to play for the Kiwis, he was seen helping the players in the middle as he carried drinks for them.

It was at the end of the 14th over when Kane Williamson brought the drinks on the field for Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, who were trying to bring some momentum back towards New Zealand after losing early wickets.

Earlier, India won the toss and invited the BlackCaps to bat first in the match. The Indian bowlers delivered a terrific performance with the ball as they removed in-form openers Devon Conway and Will Young inside 10 overs.

Speaking at the toss, stand-in captain Tom Latham said that they were also looking to bowl first in the match. He also said that they need to continue the winning momentum. He said:

“We’d have bowled first as well. Looks like a good surface, and we know the dew will come in. The important thing is whatever we do, we need to do well.

“We need to keep the momentum going. We are in a new ground, new conditions so need to adjust to these conditions as quickly as we can. We’ve got the same team for today – three seamers and two spinners.”

Tom Blundell Called As Backup For Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson will miss upcoming games in the ICC World Cup 2023. However, he is expected to be back in the latter half of the tournament. Tom Blundell has been called as a backup for Williamson.

“Firstly, we’re all feeling for Kane to have this occur after all his hard work to return from his knee injury. While it’s disappointing news, the initial diagnosis has given us some optimism he can still feature later in the pool play following a period of rest and rehabilitation”, New Zealand coach Gary Stead said.

“Kane is clearly a massive part of our side and a world class player and captain – so we’ll look to give him every opportunity we can to return in the tournament,” Stead further said.

New Zealand National Cricket Team captain Kane Williamson provided a massive update on his injured thumb after winning the World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Friday, October 13.

Kane Williamson played his first competitive game for New Zealand in a long period of time. He looked great out in the middle and was involved in two terrific partnerships with Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell and played a key role in the victory of the BlackCaps by 8 wickets against the Bangla Tigers.

The Kiwi skipper scored 78 runs off 107 balls, with 8 fours and 1 six, in the match. However, he retired hurt after suffering a blow on his thumb. With his half-century, he created history as he became the New Zealand player with the most 50-plus scores across formats. Ross Taylor had 133 50-plus scores and now Williamson has 134.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Kane Williamson came to talk with some protection on his thumb. While talking about his injury, the 33-year-old said that his thumb turned fat and colorful after the blow and he will go for scans tomorrow. He said:

“Just got a bit fat and colorful straight away so got a scan tomorrow, but hopefully it’s okay. [on the knee] It’s okay, glad to get through the game from a knee perspective, but from a team perspective it was great as well.”

He was outstanding – Kane Williamson on Lockie Ferguson

Kane Williamson seemed impressed with the performance of his bowlers and he lauded them for restricting the Bangla Tigers to a modest score of 245/9. He said:

“I thought the guys in the first half of the performance were excellent. They just banged the wicket hard, it was a bit variable. And then later it was nice to build those partnerships and take the game late. Midway through the powerplay, we realized that we should hit the surface. Not a bad surface, and a really good competitive wicket.”

Kane Williamson also praised express pacer Lockie Ferguson for his Player of the Match performance against Bangladesh. He said:

“[on Lockie] He was outstanding. You come here expecting the spinners to play a big role, but the seamers did really well today. Lockie he just keeps running in, bowling at a high pace and he hasn’t had some of that good fortune, so thoroughly deserved. For both the seamers and the spinners.”

Kane Williamson signed off by stating that he enjoyed his time in the middle and praised Daryl Mitchell for making valuable contributions consistently for the team. Kane Williamson said:

“It was nice to be out there and be a part of some of those partnerships, some tough periods with the new ball were hard work. But just wanted to build partnerships and get close to that target.

“[on Daryl Mitchell] He’s a great competitor, makes valuable contributions more often than not, he’s a team-first guy and he’s great to watch.”

The 11th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 was played between Kane Williamson-led New Zealand National Cricket Team and Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Friday, October 13.

New Zealand continued to dominate the competition by winning their third straight game. They thrashed the Bangla Tigers by 8 wickets with 43 balls remaining in the match.

Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and elected to field first in the match. They made one change to their playing XI as skipper Kane Williamson made his ODI return and replaced Will Young in the side. Bangladesh, on the other hand, made a sole change to their playing XI as Mahmudullah replaced Mahedi Hasan.

Bangladesh were off to an awful start in the match as their top-order batting unit once again faced a collapse. However, the veterans Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan stabilized the innings with their batting masterclass.

The duo added 96 runs in 108 balls after the Bangla Tigers were reduced to 56/4 and brought their side back into the game. Shakib Al Hasan got out for 40, but Mushfiqur completed his fifty. Also, Mahmudullah played a good 41-run knock while batting at No.8 and guided Bangladesh to a total of 245/9.

Chasing the target, the Black Caps were off to a poor start in the match as they lost the in-form Rachin Ravindra in the 3rd over itself. However, Devon Conway played a stunning 45-run knock and was involved in a good partnership with Kane Williamson.

The Kiwi skipper looked in great touch and scored a brilliant 78 runs in his comeback game. He stitched together 80 runs with Conway and 108 runs with Daryl Mitchell.

Williamson got retired hurt after suffering a blow to his thumb, but Daryl Mitchell remained unbeaten on 89 and steered the Kiwis to a stunning win over Bangladesh.

Kane Williamson made his much-awaited return to competitive cricket on Friday (October 13) against Bangladesh in the 11th match of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.

The New Zealand skipper was out of action since March after suffering a knee injury during the first game of IPL 2023. He had to undergo surgery due to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. His participation in the ongoing competition looked highly doubtful but he recovered just in time for the marquee event.

He missed New Zealand’s first two games and finally made his much-awaited return to action on Friday. And while the New Zealand batting superstar played a brilliant innings on his comeback, his stay at the crease ended in a disappointing manner.

Kane Williamson retires hurt:

Kane Williamson had to retire hurt after suffering a painful blow on his hand. The incident occurred on the first ball of the 38th over when a throw hit him flush on the gloves. He and Daryl Mitchell tried to steal a single after the former drove a Taskin Ahmed delivery towards the off stump.

And as he was about to enter the crease at the non-striker’s end, the throw from the fielder hit him on his gloves. Replays later showed that he was hit on the thumb and he had to seek medical attention. Kane Williamson faced two more balls before deciding to walk off.

Before leaving the field, the New Zealand skipper played a fine knock of 78 runs. He walked out to bat after Rachin Ravindra departed cheaply and shared two crucial stands with Devon Conway and Mitchell to put his team in the driver’s seat.

At the time of writing this report, New Zealand were 227 for 2 after 41 overs while chasing 246. Mitchell and Glenn Phillips were unbeaten at the crease. The Black Caps are eyeing their third win in a row in the tournament.

New Zealand has won two out of two games so far. They beat England by nine wickets and the Netherlands by 99 runs. They have won all their five games against Bangladesh in World Cups.

Kane Williamson is likely to make a comeback in the Kiwi playing XI for this match. He was rested from the first two games as he was continuing his recovery. Tim Soutrhee will also make a comeback as his selection is more than certain as per Kiwi coach Gary Stead. Southee recently had surgery on his left thumb and is good to go as per sources.

The return of the two stalwarts would certainly boost the team’s strength in both batting and bowling departments. They will also need to find a way to Ish Sodhi who did not play the first two games. The pitch at Chennai will help the spinners and the management should pick the two specialist spinners in the side.

New Zealand and Bangladesh have played 40 ODIs with the Kiwis winning 30 matches and the Tigers just 10. One match ended in a no-result. The Kiwis are expected to bring out another dominating performance, especially with the senior players expected to be back in the side.

Kane Williamson has confirmed he will make his much-awaited return to competitive cricket in the upcoming game between New Zealand and Bangladesh. The Black Caps and the Bangla Tigers will lock horns against each other in the 11th match of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday (October 13) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Kane Williamson has not played a competitive match since suffering a knee injury in the first match of IPL 2023 in March. He had to undergo surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. There were huge doubts over his participation in the ongoing World Cup but the star batsman managed to recover just in time to make it to the squad.

He played in both the warm-up games, scoring 54 retired against Pakistan and 37 against South Africa. However, he missed New Zealand’s first two games in the main competition as he was still not fully fit to play an ODI. But he has regained his full fitness and is now all set to make his much-awaited return to action this week. According to Cricbuzz, the New Zealand captain has confirmed that he will play against Bangladesh on Friday.

Who will make way for Kane Williamson?:

While New Zealand will be delighted to have Kane Williamson back, it will also make it tough for the team management to make room for the captain. When head coach Gary Stead was asked about it, he stated that a fit Williamson would definitely play but did not name the player who could make way for the captain.

“If Kane’s available, he will play, there’s no doubt about that, he’s one of the best players in the world and the discussions that we’re having at the moment is – how does that still fit? We, for example, played Jimmy Neesham in the first game, not the second … again, that was around the conditions we thought best suited the team at the time,” Stead said earlier this week.

In Williamson’s absence, Rachin Ravindra batted at number three against England and Netherlands and did well. While he scored a blazing unbeaten century against England, he scored a fine fifty against Netherlands. The openers – Devon Conway and Will Young – have performed well too.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead has delivered a promising update on captain Kane Williamson and veteran pacer Tim Southee. The Black Caps have started their World Cup campaign without both the senior players.

In the tournament opener, New Zealand thrashed reigning champions England by 9 wickets while chasing 283 runs. In their second game, they thrashed the Netherlands by 99 runs. In Kane Williamson’s absence, wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Latham led the side in both the games.

They will be in action next on Friday (October 13) when they lock horns against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. And the in-form team could be boosted by the return of their talismanic captain Kane Williamson as well as their most experienced pacer Tim Southee.

Kane Williamson has not played a competitive match since suffering an ACL tear in the IPL earlier in the year. He did bat against Pakistan and South Africa in the warm-up game but was not ready to play a full game. On the other hand, Southee had dislocated his thumb during an ODI against England on September 15 and had to undergo surgery.

Gary Stead’s update on Kane Williamson and Tim Southee:

Speaking ahead of the game against Bangladesh, Stead said that Kane Williamson is “looking good” to make a comeback from injury in the forthcoming game. He also confirmed the availability of Southee for New Zealand’s third game of the competition.

“He’s been progressing very very well. He’s had a great last five or six days, really went about the fielding aspect of things,” Stead said. “That’s the key thing for Kane at the moment. It’s not about his injury so much now, it’s his ability to run between the wickets and to field and to consistently do that over a 50-over game. We’re delighted with where he’s at.

“We’ve got two more trainings still to get through but at this stage all things are looing good for Kane to return in this game. But we still say that with an air of caution but we’re really pleased with the way he has been coming on,” he added.

The return of Kane Williamson will force New Zealand to make a change to their winning combination. In his absence, Rachin Ravindra batted at number three and scored a century and a fifty in the first two games. When asked about the player who could make way for the New Zealand captain, Stead said:

“If Kane is available, he will play. There is no doubt about that. He is one of the best players in the world. The discussions we are having at the moment is like how does that still fit?

“For example, we played Jimmy Neesham in the first game but not the second. That was around the conditions we thought best suited the team at the time. That’s the ongoing discussion we have around every single game and also looking at the opposition and who we feel gives us the right balance in each situation,” he added.

Talking about Southee, the New Zealand coach said: “Tim will be available for selection, he’s been tracking well. Looks like the thumb has set very very well. He has been bowling at full intensity for the last couple of training sessions so he is certainly available for selection.”
