Australian cricketer Steve Smith expressed his excitement for reaching the milestone of playing 100 Test matches for his country, describing it as a dream come true moment. Steve Smith admitted that he never imagined playing such a significant number of matches in red-ball game.

Steve Smith made his 100th appearance in red-ball cricket during the third Test the ongoing Ashes series against England at Headingley in Leeds on Thursday, July 6. The right-handed batter became the 15th Australian cricketer to achieve the milestone in the longer format of the game.

I’ve Loved Every Minute Of It – Steve Smith

In an interview with Sky Sports, Steve Smith said that he enjoyed every moment throughout his career in international cricket.

“It’s a dream come true to play one, and never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d play 100. It’s been a great journey. I’ve loved every minute of it and am looking forward to this week,” Smith said.

Smith achieved the milestone of becoming the second-fastest player to score 9,000 runs in Test cricket during the ongoing series. He amassed a total of 9,113 runs in 99 Test matches with an impressive average of 59.56, including 32 centuries.

They’re Proud Of What I’ve Achieved – Steve Smith

The 34-year-old batsman mentioned that his parents are proud of his achievement and stated that they would be watching the match.

“Dad was supposed to be up here today, but he’s actually crook, so he’s struggled to make it. But there are certainly plenty of messages. I had a word with him yesterday, and they’re proud of what I’ve achieved. They’ll be watching,” he added.

Australia made three changes to their playing XI for the third match. Cameron Green and Nathan Lyon weren’t included as forced changes, while Josh Hazlewood was rested to manage his workload.
