Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has recently evaluated the performances of the fabled “Fab 4” in Test cricket since 2020. Steve Smith, Virat Kohli, Joe Root, and Kane Williamson form this fabulous “Fab 4” group with Kohli running slightly slow in comparison to his fellow international cricketers.

Aakash Chopra on his official Youtube channel started the discussion by first speaking about Jos Root. The former England skipper has scored the most runs in Test cricket since the start of 2020 and has scored the most number of centuries as well.

Joe Root Is Head And Shoulders Above The Rest: Aakash Chopra

“He was lagging slightly behind in the 2014-2019 period, but from January 2020, he has played 43 matches, scored 3837 runs, an average of 54.8 and he has scored 13 centuries. Joe Root is head and shoulders above the rest” said Chopra on Root.

He then shifted his focus on Kane Williamson who is currently out from international cricket and recovering from a knee injury that he picked up in IPL 2023. The injury resulted in him being ruled out of the tournament and he will also miss the ODI World Cup in India.

Chopra pointed out to Williamson’s average of 72 in the meantime which has been the best of the lot in this period. The right-hander has also scored seven centuries and is also the highest run-getter in Test cricket for New Zealand.

“Kane Williamson – 16 matches, but he has scored 1745 runs in that, which means more than 100 runs per match. He has an average above 72 and he has struck seven centuries. So Kane Williamson, whose star seemed to be on the decline, he has taken a different flight altogether” said Chopra on Williamson.

The former Indian cricketer then spoke about Steve Smith’s stats in the meantime. Smith who is currently playing the Ashes scored a match-winning century in the WTC final. He also scored a century in the first innings at Lord’s. The Headingley Test is the 100th for ‘Smudge‘.

“Steve Smith has hit six centuries, 1949 runs in 27 matches but his average has gone down – 49.97 at the time of recording. Not bad but he also went through a bad patch” Chopra pointed out.

He spoke about Virat Kohli’s stats in Test cricket since 2020 to conclude his argument. Kohli has had an average of less than 30 in the same period and has scored the fewest runs as well. He had a three-year period with no Test tons between 2020-2022. He broke the jynx against Australia in the Border-Gavaskart Trophy 2023.
