AUS vs ENG: Steve Smith To Be A Part of Major League Cricket 2024 Season; Becomes Brand Ambassador Of Washington Freedom Franchise

Australia batting star Steve Smith might be part of the next season of the Major Cricket League. Steve Smith has signed an agreement to become the brand ambassador of the Washington Freedom franchise, which plays in the Major Cricket League.

Steve Smith plays for New South Wales (NSW) team in domestic cricket. The team has a close link with the Washington Freedom franchise. NSW has a high-performance partnership with the Washington Freedom team. Michael Klinger and Greg Shipperd hold the positions of team head and head coach in both franchises.

Steve Smith Becomes Brand Ambassador Of Washinton Freedom

While speaking in his promotional video as the brand ambassador of Washington Freedom, Steve Smith said he looks forward to taking cricket to the USA from Australia.

“As a New South Wales boy, the partnership the Freedom has with my home state means a lot to me. Cricket in Australia has a rich history and I look forward to being part of taking cricket to the United States of America.” Smith said.

Michael Klinger said Steve Smith will lift the profile of the Washington Freedom franchise. Klinger is the head of both Washington Freedom and New South Wales teams.

“Steve has a close relationship with New South Wales and Sydney Sixers. He obviously had five fantastic games in the last BBL, and to have him on board as an ambassador to promote the team is great. He’s going to really lift the profile of the Washington Freedom. ” Michael Klinger told ESPNcricinfo.

He also mentioned that some of Steve Smith’s colleagues are playing in the Washington Freedom team and they expect a long-term relationship with Smith as ambassador.

“Some of his best mates, the New South Wales guys, are playing in the team, like [captain] Moises Henriques, and to be able to promote the Freedom with someone of Steve’s stature is going to be great for us. We certainly hope it’s a long-term relationship and we’ll see how that goes down the track,” Klinger further added.

Although Steve Smith did not comment on his participation in next year’s Major Cricket League season, he might pull up his socks to represent Washington Freedom. Australia has no games scheduled in July 2024. They will participate in T20 World Cup in June and will directly step on the field in August.

Hence, Smith has no national duty during the July slot next year. Major Cricket League is a franchise cricket tournament in the United States of America (USA). Its debut season is set to commence on July 13 (Thursday), with six teams battling for the title.
