Australian vice-captain Steve Smith took a dig at England’s media by sharing a picture of wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey ahead of the fourth Test match against England. Steve Smith stated that he can confirm that Alex Carey had a haircut and paid for the services.

Alex Carey came under media scrutiny in England when reports emerged that he had not paid for a haircut at a local barber shop. The Sun newspaper reported on July 8 that the barber, Adam Mahmood, claimed Carey had not settled the payment for his haircut in Leeds.

I Can Confirm That – Steve Smith

Steve Smith took to Twitter and shared a picture with Alex Carey, stating that he had indeed paid for his haircut.

“I can confirm that Alex Carey has now had a haircut and that he paid for it,” Smith tweeted.

During the commentary on Day 2 of the third Test at Headingley, former England captain Alastair Cook mentioned that Alex Carey didn’t pay cash to the hairdresser.

“[The barber] said, he hasn’t paid. It was one of those cash-only ones, and he promised he would have a transfer later in the day, and this was just before he shut. This is a true story, I’m not making it up,” Cook said.

I Apologise For The Mistaken Identity – Alastair Cook

However, Alastair Cook later apologized for spreading a false rumor about Alex Carey, stating that there had been some confusion.

“There’s also been a bit of fuss around on a rainy day, a bit of news about a haircut which might have been discussed on radio the other day. A case of mistaken identity, so I apologize for the mistaken identity to Alex Carey,” he said.
