Australia stalwart Steve Smith rubbished Michael Vaughan’s claims about his retirement with laughter. When Steve Smith was asked about former England skipper Michael Vaughan’s statement about his retirement after Ashes 2023,  the handed batsman laughed and said, “I am not retiring”.

During a recent podcast, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan said that Steve Smith will retire after Ashes 2023. However, Smith is a crucial part of the Australian Test side and also shattered a century in Ashes 2023.

I Am Not Retiring: Steve Smith

ESPNCricinfo shared a video on Twitter in which a reporter asked Steve Smith about Michael Vaughan’s claims about his retirement. Smith said that he was not retiring with a big laugh on his face.

“I am not retiring. No idea. Because I have not said it to anyone. I have no idea. I am not going anywhere”, Smith said when reporter asked him whether he has any idea where this statement came from. Have a look at the video below,” Steve Smith stated.

Meanwhile, Smith has shown decent form in Ashes 2023. The right-handed batsman has smacked 319 runs in 9 innings so far at an average of 35.44. He also scored a century and half-century.

In the ongoing AUS vs ENG 5th Test, Smith slammed the most 71 runs for the team in 1st innings. With his knock, Australia managed to surpass England’s 1st innings total to capture a 12-run lead.

Batting first, England were bowled out for 283-10 in the 1st innings. Harry Brook smacked a wonderful knock of 85 runs for the team. Be Duckket (41), Moeen Ali (34), and Chris Woakes (36) also gave crucial support in batting.

In response, Australia came up with 295-10 on the board before losing all wickets. For Australia, Usman Khawaja smacked 47 runs. Later, Smith shattered 71 runs. With key knocks of 36 and 34 by tailenders Pat Cummins and Todd Murphy, Australia managed to score 12 runs more than England’s total.

Australia leads the series 2-1 after four games and has already retained the Ashes 2023 urn. However, England can halt them from winning the series if they grab a victory in the ongoing 5th Test at The Kennington Oval in London.
