Updated ICC World Test Championship Points Table After ENG vs AUS 5th Test, WTC Table: England National Cricket Team defeated Australia National Cricket Team by 49 runs in an epic Ashes finale that was held between July 27-31 at the Kennington Oval, London.

The thrilling Ashes series ended in a 2-2 draw after England made an unbelievable comeback after losing the first two games. The recently concluded series between Pat Cummins-led Australia and Ben Stokes-led England will undoubtedly go down as one of the most memorable Ashes ever as both sides provided the entertainment of the highest order to cricket fans around the world.

Australia won the toss in the match and elected to field first. They made a sole change to their team as Todd Murphy was brought in for Cameron Green. Ben Stokes-led side, on the other hand, decided to go with the same XI for the high-octane clash.

The English openers – Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett – once again provided their side with a rollicking start and added 62 runs. The next big partnership came when Harry Brook and Moeen Ali showcased aggressive batting and stitched together 111 runs in 108 balls.

Although Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Jonny Bairstow failed to get going, the good contributions from lower-order batters – Mark Wood and Chris Woakes – meant the hosts posted a decent total of 283 runs on the board.

For the Aussies, Mitchell Starc starred with the ball as he bagged four wickets while Josh Hazlewood and Todd Murphy got two each. Also, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh picked up one wicket each.

Australia Take A Small Lead

When it was Australia’s turn to bat, the batters batted completely opposite to England as they were overly defensive. They posted 295 runs on the board while batting at a run rate of 2.85. Steven Smith shined with the bat as he scored brilliant 71 runs under pressure while Pat Cummins and Todd Murphy chipped in with amazing contributions from the lower order.

For England, Chris Woakes picked up three wickets, Mark Wood, Joe Root, and Stuart Broad got two each while James Anderson bagged one wicket.

In the second innings, the English openers came out all guns blazing and they punished the Aussies with their aggressive strokeplay. After the openers were back in the hut, Joe Root and Ben Stokes showcased batting masterclass while Jonny Bairstow finished things off for his side with his amazing half-century. Joe Root (91), Jonny Bairstow (78), and Zak Crawley (73) helped the Three Lions post 395 runs on the board and give a target of 384 runs to Pat Cummins & Co.

In the bowling department, Mitchell Starc and Todd Murphy bowled brilliantly and they shared 8 wickets between them while Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins picked up one wicket each.

Chasing the target, opening batsmen David Warner and Usman Khawaja provided their side with a terrific start and they looked settled in the middle while adding 135 runs on Day 4.

On Day 5, the Aussie openers were cleaned up in quick succession by the right-arm pacer Chris Woakes. David Warner scored 60 and Usman Khawaja scored 72.

Although Marnus Labuschagne failed, Australia were in a good position to win the match at lunch as they were at 238/3 with Steve Smith and Travis Head in the middle. However, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes helped their side make an unbelievable comeback in the match with 4 back-to-back wickets.

Moeen dismissed Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh while Chris Woakes bagged the wickets of Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh.

Meanwhile, retiring Stuart Broad got his fairytale ending as he dismissed Todd Murphy and Alex Carey to bundle out the Aussies for 334 and level the series 2-2.

Ahead of the fifth Test, Australia were in the third position on the table with 54.17 percentage points and England were in the fourth spot with 29.17 percentage points. With the victory of Ben Stokes & Co. in the match both the teams now have 43.33 percentage points.
