Former Australian cricketer Gregg Chappell predicted that veteran batters Virat Kohli and Steve Smith would excel in the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is set to be played in India. Gregg Chappell stated that Virat Kohli and Steve Smith would compete to stamp their supremacy in the World Cup.

Fab 5 Will Score A Lot Of Runs For Their Teams – Greg Chappell

In a conversation with Boria Majumdar, Greg Chappell expressed that the ‘Fab Five’ batters, Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Babar Azam, Joe Root, and Kane Williamson, are expected to accumulate significant runs for their respective nations in the World Cup.

“I think each one of them will score a lot of runs for their teams. The format makes for that. And the timing of the World Cup, the conditions expected in India, all of it will suit these players who are all very good players for their respective teams,” Chappell said.

Kane Williamson sustained an injury while representing the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The right-handed batter is currently recovering from his injury and is unlikely to make it to the squad for the mega tournament in India.

Would Pick Virat Kohli And Steve Smith – Greg Chappell

The former Indian head coach picked Virat Kohli and Steve Smith as the best batters across the three formats in international cricket at the moment.

“Having said that, I would pick Virat Kohli and Steve Smith as the two best all-format players, and think it will be between these two in the World Cup to stamp their supremacy,” he concluded.

The upcoming ODI World Cup will be played in India between October 5 and November 19. The tournament will kick off with the match between defending champions Enfland and Nezeald at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The final match will also be played at this iconic venue in Ahmedabad.
