Mohammed Shami has been the man for India in the ongoing first ODI against Australia at Punjab Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The pacer has been right on the money with the ball and has troubled Australia batters with his lines and lengths.
Mohammed Shami outshined Steve Smith with his staggering bowling and sent stumps flying. The pacer made the ball talk in the 22nd over of the game as he bowled a sharp delivery that nipped in. The batter didn’t read the ball at all as it took the inside edge to see the leg-stump clattering.
Steve Smith looked in great touch as he played some crisp shots and batted well. He scored 41 runs off 60 balls and looked set for a big score. However, thankfully for India Mohammed Shami produced a snorter to cut short his stay and send him packing.
Mohammed Shami provided India with a great start as he bowled magnificently well with the new ball. He bowled impeccable lines and lengths and removed dangerous Mitchell Marsh for just 4 runs in the very first over that he bowled. He has filled in the shoes of Mohammed Siraj well who has been down with fever.
With the wicket of Steve Smith, Australia lost three wickets. David Warner (52) so far has been the highest run-getter in the game. The visitors were reduced to 112/3.
Mohammed Shami should play without any doubt – Aakash Chopra
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra batted for Mohammed Shami to be the regular feature in the playing XI for India. He backed the pacer to play with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
“I feel Shami should play without any doubt. When you play on a very flat pitch, batting generally tends to cancel each other out. Both sides have good batting line-ups. You might not need the No. 9.
You will have [Ravichandran] Ashwin or [Washington] Sundar at No. 8. At least at No. 9, play a proper bowler. I am not saying that Shardul is not a proper bowler, but play Shami, Siraj, Bumrah – go with your three proper fast bowlers,” he concluded.
