Roelof van der Merwe has displayed a magnificent fielding effort in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 clash against the Netherlands. Match 24 of the tournament is currently taking place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Australia after winning the toss and batting first have been right on the money with the the bat. They have batted magnificently well but one cannot ignore the class of Netherlands on the field in particular Roelof van der Merwe.

Roelof van der Merwe produced a staggering effort and cut short Steve Smith’s stay at the crease. The Australian batter was looking in great touch and was all set for a big knock. But the brilliance of Netherlands on the field saw him back in the hut.

Aryan Dutt bowled a short and wide delivery outside off. Steve Smith played a cut as he leaned back. The ball went low to Roelof van der Merwe brought out his unconventional reverse-cup grip and pouched it with fingers under the ball.

Before taking the catch of Steve Smith, Roelof van der Merwe also gobbled a brilliant catch that almost had David Warner back in the hut. It was low full-toss outside off, to which the batter punched in the air. The Netherlands fielder put in a great dive to his right and gobbled the catch.

However, the replays suggested that Roelof van der Merwe grabbed the ball with both hands and after catching it, his right hand left the ball and the left hand was grounded with the ball in it. David Warner was deemed not out and he batted magnificently well after that. He scored his second consecutive century of the tournament and would be looking to end with a big score.
