Former Pakistan allrounder Abdul Razzaq has named three players who can replace Babar Azam as the Test captain of the team. There have been calls to sack Babar Azam as the Test captain for quite some time now and his poor captaincy in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has only added pressure on him.

In 2020, he replaced Azhar Ali as the Test captain and has led Pakistan in 20 Tests so far. In those 20 games, he led his team to victory in 10 games. But seven of those wins came in 2021 when he led the team in 8 Tests and five of those 7 victories came against Zimbabwe, West Indies, and Bangladesh.

His performance as a Test captain in the last year or so has not been up to the mark. In 2022, Pakistan won just one Test in 8 games while suffering a humiliating whitewash at the hands of England at home. They also lost the home series against Australia and drew the series in Sri Lanka.

Abdul Razzaq on Babar Azam’s replacement:

In July this year, Babar Azam managed to ease pressure on himself by guiding his team to a 2-0 series win over Sri Lanka. However, several experts and former cricketers in Pakistan have called for his axing. And while only time will reveal the Pakistan captain’s fate. Abdul Razzaq has suggested that former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shan Masood could be good replacements for the Test captain.

“If you want to change captain, then you have the option of Sarfaraz. Rizwan and Shan Masood are options as well. A captain should not be just a good cricketer, he should be a good person as well. These three have these qualities and will look after the players,” said Abdul Razzaq.

Meanwhile, PCB chief Zaka Ashraf recently met Sarfaraz Ahmed at the Pakistan cricket headquarters in Lahore to congratulate him for leading Karachi Whites to the title in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Several media reports from Pakistan suggest that it is a big indication of Sarfaraz being in contention to replace Babar Azam as the Test captain.
