Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bowl first in the must-win clash against Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The match is currently underway at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The Men in Green need to win the ongoing game at all costs to keep their slim chances of qualifying for the semifinals alive. While realistically, their chances are all but over, mathematically they are still alive. For that to happen, Pakistan first need to win their remaining games to finish the league stage with 10 points and hope that other results go their way too.

The Babar Azam-led side began their campaign with two wins, beating the Netherlands by 81 runs before chasing down a record total of 345 against Sri Lanka. But it was followed by four defeats in a row against India, Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa. In their last game, they were agonizingly close to a thrilling win over South Africa but eventually lost it by 1 wicket.

    Babar Azam pumped up:

Pakistan will now be looking to beat Bangladesh in the ongoing game to keep their campaign alive. And the way their captain celebrated a wicket, it made it very clear that the Pakistan players are completely pumped up and still have not given up on their World Cup hopes.

Shaheen Afridi gave his team a flying start by dismissing opener Tanzid Hasan for a duck in the very first over. In his second over, he dismissed Najmul Hossain Shanto for just 4 to leave Bangladesh reeling at 6 for 2. And in the sixth over, Haris Rauf joined the party too.

In his very first over of the game, the right-arm pacer picked up the huge wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim. He forced the veteran batter to edge the ball behind the stumps to wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan. Babar Azam knew the importance of the wicket and his celebration said it all. The delighted captain was seen celebrating the dismissal in a wild manner by pulling Rauf’s hair.
