  • What do Virat Kohli, KL Rahul Do? Shahid Afridi Makes Huge Claim About Babar Azam's Batting

  • The right-handed batsman has been facing severe criticism from Pakistan cricket fraternity not only for his captaincy but also his batting.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has questioned Babar Azam’s match-winning abilities as the star batter continues to struggle in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

The right-handed batsman has been facing severe criticism from the Pakistan cricket fraternity not only for his captaincy but also for his batting. He began his campaign with knocks of 5 and 10 against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. Fortunately for Pakistan, the failures of their captain did not hurt them much as they won both games.

In the next four games, he scored three half-centuries but Pakistan ended up losing all of them. He failed to do well against Bangladesh on Tuesday (October 31) but Pakistan won that game. With Babar Azam’s half-centuries not being able to propel his team to win, several experts including former India opener Gautam Gambhir have advised him to play for the team and not milestone.

Shahid Afridi questions Babar Azam’s match-winning abilities:

Speaking on a local TV channel, Shahid Afridi stated that winning the games is more important than achieving the milestone. Citing the examples of Indian stars such as Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, the former allrounder said that unlike them, Babar Azam rarely guides his team to victories. He also opined that Babar rarely gives the feeling that he could win a match on his own.

“Scoring 50-100 runs is different and winning the match with Babar Azam’s scores is something else. What do Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and others do? They score runs and they lead their teams to victory. There’s a huge craze for Babar among the fans and I am a fan myself,” said Shahid Afridi.

“But sometimes it becomes difficult to explain to people what you want from the player. You say Babar Azam is a great player. People do reach that level, but they also need to maintain it. When he goes out, it feels like Babar Azam is going to score 50-60 runs, not that he’s going to win the match for us. We don’t get that feeling from him,” he added.
