India National Cricket Team opening batsman Shubman Gill posted a 3-word message on his official Instagram handle after ending the reign of the Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Babar Azam as the No.1 batsman in the ICC ODI Rankings.

Gill has not been highly impressive with the bat in the ongoing edition of the World Cup. He was backed by many experts to top the leading run-getters chart in the competition and set the stage on fire, which he hasn’t managed to do yet.

However, Shubman Gill has done enough to leapfrog Pakistan captain Babar Azam and end his 2-plus year dominance at the top of the rankings. The youngster is only the fourth player from the India National Cricket Team to become the No.1 ranked ODI batsman after Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli.

So far the right-handed batsman Shubman Gill has amassed 219 runs in six matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The scores of 92 and 23 against Sri Lanka and South Africa over the last week helped him to finally overtake Pakistan’s captain in the charts.

Other than Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli has jumped to the fourth position in the ICC ODI Rankings for batters. Also, the right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj has once again become the No.1 ranked ODI bowler, dethroning Pakistan star Shaheen Afridi. Other than, Siraj, there are three more Indians in the top 10.

Kuldeep Yadav has jumped three places to the fourth position, Jasprit Bumrah has moved up three spots to the eighth position, and ‘sensational’ Mohammed Shami has climbed seven places to the overall tenth spot.

The Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team have been on a dominant run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, having won 8 matches on the trot. They are guaranteed to finish at the No.1 spot after the finish of the group stage and their last match is against the Scott Edwards-led Netherlands National Cricket Team.
