Michael Vaughan has taken a hilarious dig at Pakistan’s situation in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Pakistan’s chances of making it to the semifinals look all but over after New Zealand’s win over Sri Lanka on Friday (November 9).

While the Men in Green can still equal New Zealand’s points tally, their poor net run rate is set to knock them out of the World Cup at the league stage. Pakistan are currently at the fifth spot in the points table with 8 points from 8 games. Their last league game is against reigning champions England and the Babar Azam-led side will have to create history to progress to the semifinals.

The Blacks Caps have a net run rate of 0.74. For Pakistan to reach 0.75, they have to win by 287 or 288 runs in case they bat first. In the case of bowling first, they have to chase down the target with 284 deliveries to spare. With Pakistan all but out of the World Cup, Michael Vaughan decided to have some fun at their expense.

On Friday (November 10), the former England captain, who has been busy trolling ex-Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez nowadays, took to X to post the qualification scenario for Pakistan and wrote: “Keep believing Pakistan… You never know..”

Babar Azam still not giving up:

While Pakistan look all but out of the ongoing World Cup, their captain Babar Azam is still hopeful of a miracle. Speaking to the reporters ahead of the final league game, Babar insisted his team has not given up hope of pulling off a victory over England.

“It’s not like this matter is not in the back of the mind. It’s in our mind and we will try to do it. But we can’t just go in and start firing blindly — we want that but with proper planning, how we want to play the first 10 overs, then the next 20 — how we have to achieve that target.

“There are a lot of things in this, like partnerships, which player will stay on the pitch for how long. I would say if Fakhar is in the match for 20 or 30 overs, we can achieve that. We can do this and we have planned for this,” he added.
