The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma added another feather to his illustrious cap on Sunday during India’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against the Netherlands, which was played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. During his knock of 61 runs off 54 balls against the Dutch line-up, Rohit completed 500 runs in the World Cup 2023, and by doing so, he became the first player in World Cup history who has scored more than 500 runs in back-to-back editions.
Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain has been on fire in the ongoing edition of the ICC World Cup. The right-handed batter, who propelled as the leading run-scorer in the 2019 edition by amassing a total of 648 runs in nine matches, has now scored 503 runs in nine matches of the World Cup 2023. He has one century and three half-centuries to his name.
The right-handed batter has averaged 55.89 and has had a strike rate of 121.50. Rohit Sharma has hit 58 fours and 24 sixes in the tournament which makes him the batter with most boundaries and maximums in this year’s World Cup.

Rohit Sharma scored 61 off 54 balls during India’s ninth match of the ICC World Cup against the Netherlands. He willowed two sixes and eight fours during his innings. Rohit Sharma completed 500 runs in the World Cup 2023, and by this, he became the first-ever batter in the history of the ICC World Cup who has managed to score over 500 runs in back-to-back World Cup editions.
No batter in the history of the World Cup has managed to score over 500 runs in consecutive editions. By scoring more than 500 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma became only the second Indian player after Sachin Tendulkar to score 500 or more runs in the World Cup on more than one occasion. Sachin Tendulkar scored 523 runs in the 1996 edition of the World Cup and 673 runs in the 2003 edition of the World Cup.
On Sunday, during his knock against Scott Edwards’ men, Rohit also went past former captain MS Dhoni to become the fifth-leading run-scorer for India in ODIs. MS Dhoni amassed a total of 10,599 runs in 347 ODIs for India, whereas Rohit Sharma now has 10,615 runs to his name in 260 ODIs for India.
