Former India Cricketer and Legend Sunil Gavaskar have a strong belief that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will not change his approach of batting aggressively for the semi-final clash between India and New Zealand at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. After securing a perfect nine out of nine wins in the round-robin league stage, Rohit Sharma and Co. will meet the Blackcaps in the first semi-final of World Cup 2023 at the historic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Despite having a forgettable run against the Kiwis in the ICC events, India will start as favorites at the Wankhede Stadium. India ended the 20-year-old jinx after they beat New Zealand in the league stage of the World Cup. Virat Kohli scored a brilliant 95 to put India in a comfortable position to secure a win against New Zealand in the league stage match at Dharamsala.

Rohit Sharma is aiming to emasculate Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni by taking India to the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup and he has earned a lot of praise from Pundits across the World for his selfless and aggressive approach. According to Sunil Gavaskar, the Indian skipper will continue to go after the bowlers in the powerplay overs of the Indian innings. Teaming up with youngster Shubman Gill, Rohit has regularly laid the foundation for huge totals at this year’s World Cup.

Rohit Sharma Will Not Change His Game, Says Sunil Gavaskar

“Well, I don’t think Rohit Sharma is going to change his game because that’s how he’s playing throughout this tournament. He hasn’t been bothered about any personal landmarks or milestones. He’s looking to get the team up to a flying start because what that does, it puts the opposition under pressure and gives his team the platform from where they can then capitalize on the remaining 40 overs,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Rohit Sharma has hit 60 sixes in the ODI format this season. No other batter has smashed more sixes than Rohit in a calendar year. The Indian Skipper has amassed 503 runs in nine matches with an average of 55.88 at the ODI World Cup 2023.

“So in the first 8 -10 overs, he’s really going to slam back at the bowling and he’s putting the opposition on the back foot with that attacking batting. He also has a very able and very capable partner Shubman Gill, whose note no with behind him. He’s almost matching him stroke for stroke,” Gavaskar added.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been two of the best batters in this World Cup leading the run charts. Virat has scored 594 runs in nine innings with an average of 99 while Rohit is fourth on the list with 503 runs at an average of 55.88. All eyes will be on these two when India faces New Zealand in an all-important semi-final of the World Cup. India will be looking to avenge the defeat they suffered against the Kiwis in the 2019 World Cup semi-finals.
