Former Indian all-rounder and Player of the Tournament in the 2011 World Cup Yuvraj Singh has worked closely with star opener Shubman Gill in the past and has been impressed with the way he has performed in the World Cup so far. Shubman Gill missed the first two matches of the tournament as he was suffering from dengue. He also had to go off the field ‘retired hurt’ on 79 after he suffered a cramp in his hamstring in the semifinal.
Shubman Gill has had a terrific 2023 scoring over 1500 runs with an average nearing 66 in 28 games. However, his ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign has been decent quite far. He has scored 350 runs with an average of 50 in eight innings. Shubman has hit four half-centuries in this World Cup and is still looking to cross the three-figure mark at the biggest stage.
Yuvraj Singh Has A Special Message For Shubman Gill
Speaking to Sports Tak ahead of the World Cup final between India and Australia, Yuvraj Singh talked about the opportunity of playing in a World Cup final for Shubman Gill. He said, “Shubman has had his health challenges, but despite that, his performances have been outstanding. I don’t know whether he had cramps or a hamstring niggle in the last game. But I feel he should play anyhow in the final. Just give it your all because a chance to play in the World Cup final doesn’t come every day. It’s probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Yuvraj Singh is also hopeful that the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will give India another flying start. He added, “Absolutely, India is playing dominant cricket and teams are fearing to face them. When Rohit and Shubman get off to a flying start, we end up scoring 350-400 runs. The only situation I feel where India might feel the pressure is if they lose their top three early. The middle order has come in with a platform set so far, but how will they handle the situation of early wickets fall is something which will be interesting to see.”
Rohit Sharma Has Led By Example
Yuvraj Singh lauded Rohit Sharma for the way he has led his team by example both in the field and with the bat. He spoke about the calmness Rohit has displayed under pressure and mentioned it as one of the main reasons why India has done so well in the tournament.
Yuvraj Singh said, “Rohit Sharma is a team player. I feel one of the main reasons why India has been so successful has been his captaincy under pressure. Even in the semifinal against New Zealand, he held back his strike bowlers and brought them into the attack only when the partnership began to look threatening. He has captained really well so far.”
India has a chance to go on and win the World Cup title while being unbeaten in the tournament if they manage to beat Australia in the finals. The Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad will host the iconic final between the two teams.
Australia is gearing up to win their sixth World Cup title whereas India is hoping to clinch the World Cup title for a third time. After 47 matches we have our finalists and it will be the most riveting contest between the two of them to decide who lifts the title.
