India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma has stated that the pitch used for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad would be on a slower side. The summit clash of the World Cup will see the battle between Rohit Sharma-led India and Pat Cummins-led Australia on Sunday, November 19.

The match between the two teams is set to be staged on a used surface, which had hosted the India vs Pakistan league stage match. India had dominated in that game and absolutely hammered the arch-rivals in front of over 1 lakh cricket fans.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Rohit Sharma said that there is a massive difference between the pitch that was used for the India vs Pakistan game and the one that will be used for the World Cup final. He said:

“There was no grass on that wicket but this has a bit of grass on it. The wicket from India vs Pakistan was a lot drier. I still haven’t looked at the wicket today. But from my understanding, it’s going to be on a slower side. We’ll see the pitch tomorrow and assess.”

Rohit Sharma added that the toss will not play a major role in the high-octane summit clash. He reasoned:

“The temperature has dropped a bit as well. I don’t know how much of a factor the dew will be because in that Pakistan game, there was a lot of dew during training but not on matchday. The same happened at Wankhede where there was dew one day before but not during the semis. I don’t think the toss will play a big role.”

Australia have won 8 out of 8, They have played good cricket – Rohit Sharma

India will be heading into the summit clash with a 10-match winning streak while Australia will enter the match with an 8-match winning streak.

Rohit Sharma, while talking about Australia, said that they have played really good cricket and deserving candidates to play in the final.

“Australia have won 8 out of 8. They have played good cricket and both the teams deserve to be in the finals. We know what Australia can do. They are a very complete side. We want to focus on what we want to do. We don’t want to worry about what kind of form they are in rather focus on our cricket and plans,” he said.

India National Cricket Team entered the final after defeating the New Zealand National Cricket Team by 70 runs in the first semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Aussies, on the other hand, beat South Africa National Cricket Team by 3 wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata to book a final berth.
