Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has expressed his support for both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to be part of the 2024 T20 World Cup squad. Gautam Gambhir suggested that Rohit Sharma should lead the national team in the upcoming T20 World Cup next year.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been absent from T20I cricket since the team’s 10-wicket defeat in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against England. All-rounder Hardik Pandya has captained the T20I squad since the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final, suggesting a potential shift in leadership.

Both Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma Should Be Picked – Gautam Gambhir

In a conversation with Sportskeeda, Gautam Gambhir picked Rohit Sharma as the leader of the Indian team for next year’s World Cup. Gambhir emphasized the importance of having Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the squad for the marquee tournament.

“Absolutely, both [Kohli and Rohit] need to be picked, both should be picked. And, more importantly, I want to see Rohit Sharma captain in the T20 World Cup. Yes, Hardik Pandya has captained in T20Is, but I still want to see Rohit Sharma captain in the T20 World Cup,” Gambhir told Sportskeeda.

“In this World Cup, he has showed that with his batting. If Rohit Sharma is picked, Virat Kohli will automatically get picked. If Rohit Sharma decides to play the T20 World Cup, he should be selected as a captain and not just as a batter,” he added.

The World Cup is scheduled to take place in the Caribbean and the USA from June 4 to 30 next year. In August, Rohit Sharma expressed his eagerness to be part of the World Cup squad and confirmed his availability for selection.

I’ll Pick Both Of Them – Wasim Akram

Former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram backed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, emphasizing their crucial roles as main players for India. Akram highlighted the necessity of experience in the World Cup, stating that relying solely on young players is not feasible.

“The T20 World Cup is happening within six months. I’ll pick both of them. They will be the main players for India – Virat and the skipper Rohit Sharma, no doubt about it. You need a bit of experience in T20. Saare young bachche nahi rakh sakte aap [You cannot pick only youngsters],” Akram said.

India superstar Virat Kohli has taken a huge leap towards the top spot in the ICC Rankings for ODI batsmen after his stunning campaign in the recently-concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

The right-handed batsman finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer and was adjudged the Player of the Tournament. In 11 games, he registered 9 50-plus scores that included three centuries. He scored a staggering 765 runs and broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most runs in a single edition of the World Cup.

During the course of the competition, he also broke Tendulkar’s record of most ODI tons by notching up his 50th century. The brilliant performance in the World Cup has helped him make good ground in the latest ICC Rankings, released by the governing body on Wednesday (November 22).

Virat Kohli moves up in ICC Rankings:

Virat Kohli has jumped one place to third on the latest ICC rankings and is within touching distance of reclaiming the top spot. He is currently behind second-placed Babar Azam and first-placed Shubman Gill. The former India captain needs just 35 rating points to equal Gill’s tally. Kohli famously held the No.1 ranking for a total of 1258 consecutive days between 2017 and 2021,

Gill is at the top with 826 rating points followed by Babar who has 824 rating points. Kohli, on the other hand, has 791 rating points. India captain Rohit Sharma has also moved up one spot to claim the fourth spot in the ICC Rankings after scoring 597 runs in the World Cup.

South Africa opener Quinton de Kock, who retired from ODIs after the World Cup, has dropped two spots to fifth in the ICC Rankings while New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has moved up five spots to sixth after scoring 552 runs in the tournament.

Australia’s hero in the final Travis Head has made a massive jump of 28 spots to claim the 15th spot. The left-handed batsman scored a stunning century in the final to help Australia beat India by six wickets and clinch a record-extending sixth World Cup title.

Among bowlers, South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj remains on top of the ICC Ranking followed by Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Adam Zampa in the top five. Among allrounders, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is leading the list.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has questioned Rohit Sharma’s shot that dismissed him in the ICC World Cup 2023 final. Rohit Sharma got out when trying to hit a boundary which was caught by Travis Head. Notably, Sharma had already hit a boundary and six in that over earlier.

Rohit Sharma’s dismissal was a key moment in India’s batting during ICC World Cup 2023. Sharma and Kohli were batting well in the powerplay overs. However, as the Indian skipper tried to hit another big shot in that over, he was caught by Travis Head.

Was Rohit Sharma Being Too Greedy- Sunil Gavaskar

In his column for Sportstar, cricketer-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar questioned Rohit Sharma’s dismissal shot. He feels that Sharma was being too greedy and he should have restricted himself from risky shots as the team had already lost Shubman Gill cheaply.

“Travis Head’s superlative turning and running back catch dashed India’s hopes of getting a 300-plus score. That catch dismissed Rohit Sharma, who once again stormed his way to another quickfire 40-plus. That wicket fell in the final over of the first powerplay where there are only two fielders allowed outside the 30-metre circle”.

“He had already hit a six and a four in the over and was obviously trying to capitalise on the few deliveries left before the powerplay finished. Was he being too greedy? Could he not have curbed himself since Shubman Gill had already been dismissed?”, Gavaskar wrote.

Sharma scored 47 runs before losing his wicket. India lost another wicket soon in the form of Shreyas Iyer, who scored 4 runs. As a result, India lost the momentum at the start. Later, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul slammed half-centuries.

However, with Australia picking wickets at regular intervals, India could only get to 240 at the scoreboard. Later, Australia chased down the target with a century by Travis Head. Winning the match by 6 wickets, the Aussies clinched their 6th ODI World Cup trophy.

With the World Cup done and dusted, the BCCI is reportedly set to sit down with chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma to discuss the roadmap for the next four years. India’s campaign in the World Cup ended in a heartbreaking manner.

Rohit Sharma was just one win away from leading India to the World Cup glory. However, India’s 10-match winning streak came to an end in the final with a six-wicket defeat against Australia. Rohit Sharma has received praise from all around for his leadership and selfless batting in the competition.

The BCCI is now set to discuss about the senior batter’s future in white-ball cricket in order to have more clarity, according to a report in The Times of India. The board will also discuss about few names who can be groomed as a captain for the future.

BCCI to discuss Rohit Sharma’s future:

The report stated that Rohit Sharma has already communicated to the selectors that he is fine with not being considered for T20Is. The right-handed batsman has not played a single T20I since leading India in the T20 World Cup last year. Along with him, Virat Kohli has also not played a T20I since India’s loss against England in the semifinal of the World Cup.

The senior batsmen are unlikely to make it to the T20I squad again. The board would now like to have more clarity on Rohit Sharma’s future in ODIs. He will be nearly 40 by the time the next ODI World Cup takes place in South Africa in 2027. Before that, the biggest ODI assignment will be the 2025 Champions Trophy.

“Before the ODI World Cup, Rohit had communicated that he is fine not being considered for T20Is. The selectors have been investing heavily in youth in T20Is for the last one year. With the T20 World Cup happening in June next year, they are reluctant to deviate from that strategy,” a source told the news outlet.

The report also stated that the board and selectors will prepare a concrete plan for ODIs only after the next IPL and T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, will be looking to focus mainly on the Test format as of now.

“As of now, it seems Rohit will be focusing a lot of his energy on the Test format for the next cycle of World Test Championship which runs till 2025. Grooming a captain for the longer formats is a key part of the agenda. With Hardik Pandya prone to injuries, selectors may look for options in ODIs,” the source claimed.

KL Rahul, Gautam Gambhir

Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Gautam Gambhir has highlighted one of the key reasons behind the failure of the Men In Blue in the ICC tournaments.

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India failed to capture the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 title at home. They looked firm favorites to clinch the trophy and headed into the final with a 10-match winning streak. However, India failed to cross the final hurdle and faced a 6-wicket heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the Australia National Cricket Team.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Gambhir talked about India’s batting approach and he said that India weren’t courageous enough, which is why they weren’t able to put up a big score on the board. He added that one of the main reasons behind India’s failures in ICC events is not being able to play an attacking brand of cricket. He elaborated:

“I have always maintained this – the most courageous team will go on to win the World Cup. I can understand that for some time you want to build a partnership. But 11-40 overs is a very long period of time. India should have accelerated and taken a risk at that stage.

“I actually would have liked India going really aggressive with the top six, seven batters. Even if they got all out for 150, I would have been fine. But you scored 240 and thought you can fight. In World Cup finals, you don’t fight – it has to be either this way or that way.

“That is the approach I would have taken. Either we go 150 all out or 300. That is what India has lacked and this is why India has not gone on to win ICC tournaments,” Gambhir said.

Probably Rohit should have sent that message…- Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir opined that the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma should have given a clear message to his batters to play aggressively even after his dismissal with Virat Kohli being the only anchor in the line-up. He said:

“Probably Rohit should have sent that message before the start of the game that even if I get out, we are going aggressive. Virat’s role is to anchor the innings from one end but rest all the other batters go hard. If you are able to take five singles in an over, that is also called positive cricket. But, if you are playing 4-5 dot balls in an over, the game is going nowhere.”

Gautam Gambhir further said that India weren’t brave enough in the summit clash against the Aussies and that is why they lost the match.

“If Virat was in, KL should have gone. He should have said that, I am going to take those risks. We might have got out for 150, but imagine if we were brave and had scored 310, you could have won the World Cup. India were not brave enough, courageous enough and that’s where we lost the finals,” Gautam Gambhir concluded.

Legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble expressed disappointment that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli couldn’t lift the ICC World Cup 2023 trophy. Anil Kumble acknowledged Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s consistent performances for Team India throughout the event.

The Men in Blue suffered a heartbreaking six-wicket loss against Australia in the final game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. The hosts failed to clinch victory despite being the dominant team in the league stage and semi-final stage.

Two Players Stood Up India In Every Moment – Anil Kumble

During a discussion on ESPNcricinfo, Anil Kumble said that Rohit delivered impactful starts, while Virat played a crucial role in ensuring a competitive score. Kumble emphasized that the ultimate achievement for a player is to hold the World Cup trophy.

“It is sad that the two of them couldn’t hold the trophy at the end. Those two players certainly stood up for India in every moment. It was Rohit giving India the start, and then Virat ensuring that India got the score that they eventually reached,” Kumble told ESPNcricinfo.

“To get to 50 ODI hundreds is a massive achievement. In all of that, I don’t think any of that would count, but for having that World Cup trophy in your hand,” he added.

Would Have Loved To Have Rahul Dravid Hold The Trophy – Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble expressed his desire to see Rahul Dravid hold the trophy, acknowledging the hard work and challenges faced by the Indian coach. Kumble said that the decision about continuing as the head coach depends on how he feels the next day.

“I would have loved to have him hold the World Cup trophy. He has worked really hard, and it’s not been easy. It’s not easy being an India coach. You’re on the road all the time, and the focus is on you. I don’t know yet (if he will continue as the head coach). It all depends on how he wakes up tomorrow morning and then decides,” Kumble further added.

The Indian team’s next assignment will be a five-match T20I series against Australia, which is scheduled to commence on November 23. The selectors are likely to rest senior players for the next series, with Suryakumar Yadav expected to lead the side.

Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid has backed his players by denying allegations that the Indian batters played with fear during the middle overs of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final against Australia. Australian skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bowl first. While Rohit Sharma said that he would have chosen to bat first. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli added a quickfire 46 runs for the second wicket, and then Virat Kohli and KL Rahul stitched up a partnership of 67 runs for the fourth wicket.

After the toss, it looked like a win-win situation for both skippers as Pat Cummins decided to bowl and Rohit Sharma wanted to bat anyway. The difference in the approach was evident as the Indian team crawled to 240 on a tricky track in Ahmedabad. Australia chased down the target of 241 in the 43rd over. The Indian team set the tone in the Narendra Modi Stadium with Rohit Sharma’s quickfire 47 runs off just 31 deliveries. He slammed four boundaries and three maximums in his innings.

“I won’t agree that we played with fear in this tournament. We scored 80 runs in the first 10 overs in the final. Even in this final, we didn’t play with fear,” Rahul Dravid said at the post-match press conference.

“In the middle overs, they bowled really well, we lost 3 wickets. Whenever we thought we would play attacking and positive cricket, we lost wickets, So we had to rebuild again. Whenever a partnership was broken, we had to rebuild,” Rahul Dravid added.

India Did Not Found A Boundary For 97 Balls

India’s momentum slumped after Rohit’s dismissal in the tenth over. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed just a few balls after Rohit’s wicket. Pat Cummins took Shreyas Iyer’s wicket to put the pressure on KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. The Rahul-Virat duo adopted a conservative approach, focusing on risk aversion and running singles to keep the scoreboard going. However, this strategy led to a long drought of boundaries lasting for a whopping 97 deliveries.

Travis Head didn’t miss a trick in his flawless innings of 137 and was the star for Australia in their victory against India in the finals. Australia clinched their sixth ODI World Cup title with a nine-match unbeaten streak after coming back from two consecutive losses in the initial stage of the World Cup

Former India skipper Kapil Dev posted a heartfelt message for Rohit Sharma after India’s loss against Australia in the final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Australia, on Sunday (November 19), stunned high-flying India by six wickets to clinch a record-extending sixth World Cup title.

India entered the final as the firm favorites after winning all of their ten games in the competition including a six-wicket win over Australia in the league stage. However, the winning form and momentum made little difference as Australia completely outplayed India to clinch a famous win. The Pat Cummins-led side thoroughly dominated the contest right from the beginning to clinch yet another World Cup title.

Asked to bat first, India lost Shubman Gill’s wicket cheaply before Rohit Sharma’s quickfire knock of 47 runs helped them recover. However, Australia struck back by removing the captain and Shreyas Iyer in quick time. KL Rahul (66) and Virat Kohli (54) scored half-centuries but India was eventually bowled out for a modest total of 240 runs.

Kapil Dev’s message for Rohit Sharma:

India started well with the ball and had Australia reeling at 47 for 3. However, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne quickly steadied the ship and sealed the game for their team by sharing a mammoth stand of 192 runs for the fourth wicket. Head scored 137 runs off 120 balls with the help of 15 fours and 4 sixes while Labuschagne remained unbeaten on 58.

Soon after the game ended, the cameras caught an emotional Rohit Sharma trying his best to control his tears. The India skipper tried all he could to hide his tears while walking off the field. And on Monday (November 20), the legendary Kapil Dev took to Instagram to post a heartwarming message for the India captain.

Posting a couple of pictures of Rohit Sharma after the game, Kapil Dev wrote: “Rohit, you are a master at what you do. You have a lot of success awaiting you. Its tough I know but keep your spirits up. India is with you.”

India, ICC World Cup 2023

The World Cup 2023 culminated with Australia winning their sixth title by beating India in the final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. In the end, the match turned out to be a fairly one-sided one with the Aussies winning the match by six wickets.

Australia won the match and asked India to bat first in the World Cup 2023 final. The Men in Blue played with the same XI that they had been playing since the league game against the Kiwis. Rohit Sharma yet again gave the team a fast start. However, the Australian bowlers did well to restrict the Indian run-scoring in the middle overs.

India Fails When It Mattered The Most

There was a period of 20 overs after the 15th over of the Indian innings where the Indian batters failed to hit a single boundary in the World Cup 2023. Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66) added a 67-run stand which was the highest partnership in the innings for India. The Australian pacers led by Mitchell Starc came to to bowl brilliant spells in the final 10 overs where they got the ball to reverse swing. This also meant that India ended with 240 on the board which was well below-par than the target they aimed for.

Australia were 47/3 losing their top-order early. The Aussies were three down inside the first seven overs losing David Warner (7), Mitchell Marsh (15), and Steve Smith (4). However, Travis Head (137*) and Marnus Labuschagne (58*) added a 192 and in the process batted the Indians out of the game. Head hit 15 fours and 4 sixes and absolutely decimated the Indian attack after getting set.

The Aussies won their sixth World Cup title in the end and their first since 2015. Pat Cummins went into joining the elite list of Australian captains who won World Cup titles for their country. Head joined Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist as the third Aussie batter to score a century in a World Cup final on a day when India probably were seen as the favorites.

Meanwhile, in this article, we will rate the players of the Indian cricket team who played in the final and gave it their all to win the game for the country.

Indian Team Players’ Rating After World Cup 2023

Rohit Sharma – 8/10

"Rohit Sharma Has Been An Outstanding Captain"- Virat Kohli Lauds Indian Skipper Ahead Of World Cup Final

Indian skipper Rohhit Sharma was praised for his aggressive intent with the bat inside the powerplay. He ended the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer with 597 runs from 11 games at an average of 54.27 and a strike rate touching close to 190.

He played a knock of 47 in the final giving his team a fast start but the middle order could not capitalise. Nonetheless, after the game, his captaincy was praised by the cricketers. He deserves all the credit for his intent and walking the talk.

Shubman Gill – 5/10

IND vs SA: Shubman Gill Shares His Learnings From Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli

Gill scored just four in the final. Overall, he ended with 354 runs at an average of 44.25 at a strike rate of 106.95. He just scored four in the final. He missed the first two games and scored four fifties with a best of 92. Playing in Ahmedabad, he was expected to bat a lot better but he could not do justice to his talent. Overall, he had a decent campaign but he was expected to do a lot better. Fair to say, he had a below-average outing in World Cup 2023.

Virat Kohli – 8/10

Virat Kohli

Former skipper Virat Kohli ended up scoring 765 runs in the tournament and eventually winning the Player Of The Tournament award. He was India’s most consistent run-scorer and someone who inspired one and all on and off the pitch. Kohli scored 54 in the final, but unfortunately, that was not enough. He needed to carry on and get a big score which unfortunately did not happen. However, due to his sheer consistency in run-scoring, he deserves an 8.

Shreyas Iyer – 6/10

Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer (Image Credits: Twitter)

The right-hander was a good addition to the Indian middle-order. He proved his worth by scoring quick runs in the batting line-up but failed to repeat his heroics in the final. With two centuries he scored 530 runs in the tournament at an average of 66.25.

What he needs to learn is to take more responsibility in crunch situations. He scored just four in the final when he expected to score at least a half-century. Going forward, he is expected to be one of the key players in the Indian cricket team and hence play with more responsibility.

KL Rahul – 7/10

KL Rahul

Rahul scored 452 runs in the tournament and affected 17 dismissals in the tournament which is most by an Indian wicket-keeper in a World Cup. He scored 66 in the final. Overall, he had a memorable tournament and was a key discovery in the Indian middle-order. He too was criticized for scoring slowly in the final as the rest of the Indian batters struggled. However, keeping his attributes in mind, he deserves a seven.

Ravindra Jadeja -7/10

Jadeja turned out to be crucial with the ball taking 16 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 24.88. He played a few important knocks with the bat and was an absolute gun fielder throughout the tournament. He set the standards in terms of fielding in the Indian cricket team. In the final, he had a chance to contribute more with the bat but he could only score nine off 22 balls.

Suryakumar Yadav – 4/10

Suryakumar Yadav. PC-BCCI
Suryakumar Yadav. PC-BCCI

SKY did not stand up to the expectations throughout the tournament. He played seven matches and scored just 106 runs at an average of 17.67. He scored 18 off 28 balls in the final 10 overs when he needed to go big for India. His inclusion in the Indian ODI side has been questionable for a very long time now and this performance might see him getting dropped from the Indian ODI side now. Overall, he turned out to be a disappointing addition to Team India.

Mohammed Siraj – 3/10

Barring the game against Sri Lanka, Siraj was a very ordinary bowler for Team India throughout the tournament. he picked up 13 wickets in the tournament and went for 469 runs, the most runs conceded by an Indian bowler. The pacer was rather ordinary in almost all the games he played and might be dropped for a length of time now given his recent performance.

Jasprit Bumrah – 8/10

Bumrah and Shami were the highlights of the Indian pace attack throughout the tournament. Both took wickets at regular intervals. Both of them were consistent in terms of pitching the ball in the right areas as well. Bumrah is truly now the spearhead of the India pace attack and will have a huge role to play in the team’s success in the next few years.

Mohammed Shami – 9/10

“The comeback should be stronger than the setback” is a phrase that goes perfectly with Mohammed Shami. he was not a part of the playing XI for the first four games. An untimely injury to Hardik Pandya meant that Shami got an opportunity to show his skills and he did not disappoint.

He ended as the top wicket-taker in the tournament with 24 wickets from just seven matches bowling less than 650 overs in the tournament. He almost had a flawless performance.

Kuldeep Yadav – 8/10

Kuldeep Yadav too deserves an 8 for his performances in the tournament. Like Shami, he too made the hard yards and made a comeback into the Indian team after being dropped from the team for two years after the 2019 World Cup.

He was not even playing for KKR in the IPL for a couple of seasons before he started making a comeback since IPL 2022 The Indian bowlers did not get a chance in the final as they had too little a score to play with against a good Australian batting unit. Kuldeep proved yet again that he is here for the long haul.

Indian head coach Rahul Dravid opened up about the loss the team faced in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Australia. He admitted that players have been emotional after the loss and it was tough for him to see them like that.

India were at the receiving end of another heartbreaking loss in the ICC events. They faced a disappointing 6-wicket loss at the hands of Australia in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. They couldn’t get the luck in their way and that coupled with slight poor performances with bat and ball.

India played a sensational brand of cricket as they won 10 games on a trot including a win in the semi-final. But when it mattered they couldn’t capitalise on the crucial junctures. After getting bundled out 240 runs, they had Australia 47/3 but after that, they couldn’t pick wickets as the opposition chased the target with 6 wickets in hand.

After the loss, the Indians were extremely shattered. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma,  Mohammed Siraj, and others were in tears. With the kind of performances they put in the tournament, they deserved to win the title but it wasn’t meant to be as luck again didn’t favor them.

Rahul Dravid admitted that players are disappointed as they put in great effort throughout the tournament. He added that they will try to learn from the loss and reflect on what went wrong for them. Speaking during the press conference, he explained:

“The boys are disappointed. There are a lot of emotions in the dressing room. It was tough to see them as a coach. You get to see their sacrifices and the effort they have put. I am sure the sun will come up tomorrow morning, we will reflect and learn from it. If you don’t go through such matches then you won’t enjoy the highs.”

IND vs AUS: He has given a lot of time and energy in this campaign – Rahul Dravid on Rohit Sharm a

Rohit Sharma was one of the most deserving guys from the Indian contingent to win the trophy. Be it with his batting or leadership, he gave his everything. He led from the front and scored around 600 runs. His captaincy throughout the tournament was spot-on as well.

Rahul Dravid hailed Rohit Sharma as an exceptional leader and said that he gave his everything in this campaign. He added that the captain wanted to lead from the front and he couldn’t speak any higher of him. He explained:

“Rohit has been an exceptional leader. He has got the dressing room. He is always available for any conversations. He’s always committed. He has given a lot of time and energy in this campaign. Even his batting, he has always set the tone for us. He wanted to lead by example. I can’t speak more highly of him.”

It remains to be seen what will be the future of the India team after the loss in the final. They will be next seen in action when they will take on Australia in the five-match T20I series, starting next week.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma opened up on the loss his team faced in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He admitted that they weren’t good enough, adding that they gave everything they had but they were outplayed by Australia.

India suffered another heartbreak as they lost by 6 wickets in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. They were thrashed by Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as they didn’t get up to the mark with bat and ball.

After being asked to bat first, India were bundled out for just 240 runs. KL Rahul (66) was the top run scorer for his team whereas Virat Kohli (54) and Rohit Sharma (47) chipped in as well. Rest all the batters couldn’t get going at all.

With the ball, India picked quick wickets and were at the top having reduced Australia to 47/3. But after that, nothing went their way as Travis Head (137) and Marnus Labuschagne (58*) took the game away from India with their staggering 192-run partnership and took the team home.

India gave their everything in the World Cup as they were dominant in the league stage, winning 9 out of the 9 games. After that in the semi-final, they were on the top as well as they thrashed New Zealand by 70 runs. However, this didn’t go their way in the final as they bagged a disappointing loss.

Rohit Sharma admitted that they were 20-30 runs short and they lost wickets at crucial junctures of the game. He expressed his disappointment, saying that things didn’t go their way. Speaking during the post-match presentation, he explained:

“The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. We tried everything but it wasn’t supposed to be. 20-30 runs more would have been good, KL and Kohli were stitching a good partnership and we were looking at 270-280 but we kept losing wickets.”

IND vs AUS: We didn’t put enough runs on the board – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma also talked about how the wicket got easier to bat in the second innings but he was quick to quip that he isn’t giving it as an excuse. He also credited Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne for their partnership. He added:

“When you have 240 on the board, you want to take wickets but credit to Head and Labuschagne for putting us out of the game, but I feel the wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. Don’t want to give that as an excuse. We didn’t put enough runs on the board. Credit to those two guys in the middle for putting up an outstanding partnership.”

It remains to be seen what will be the future of the India team after the loss in the final. They will be next seen in action when they will take on Australia in the five-match T20I series, starting next week.

Team India stars such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Mohammed Siraj failed to control their emotions after Australia defeated India in the recently-concluded final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

India’s campaign in the thirteenth edition of the World Cup ended in a heartbreaking manner as Australia thrashed the high-flying hosts by six wickets. For a team that was scoring runs and taking wickets for fun throughout the tournament, nothing much went right in the final.

Right from the toss till the end, Australia pretty much remained on the front foot. Captain Pat Cummins opted to bowl first after winning the toss and his decision was totally justified as Australia bowled India out for a modest total of 240 runs.

Mitchell Marsh was the top wicket-taker, taking 3 wickets while Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood picked up 2 apiece. For India, KL Rahul was the top-scorer with the bat, scoring 66 off 107 balls while Kohli scored 54 off 63 balls. Captain Rohit Sharma also played a crucial knock of 47 runs from just 31 balls with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes.

India stars get emotional after loss:

In reply, Australia started their chase poorly and lost three wickets for just 47 runs with David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Steve Smith back in the hut cheaply. But from thereon, it was one-way traffic as a stunning century from Travis Head and an unbeaten fifty from Marnus Labuschagne saw Australia cross the finishing line in 43 overs.

Head scored 137 off just 120 balls and shared a big stand of 192 runs with Labuschagne who remained unbeaten on 58. Australia needed only two runs when Head was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj before Glenn Maxwell hit the winning runs. And as Australia clinched the game, a number of Indian stars failed to control their emotions.

An emotional Mohammed Siraj was seen shedding a few tears before being consoled by his teammates while the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also struggled to deal with the heartbreaking defeat.

Former cricketer Shreevats Goswami criticised Indian skipper Rohit Sharma fit his ultra-aggressive approach in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He said that the Indian captain didn’t have to do that against Australia and should’ve taken his time and pushed the team to a big total.

Rohit Sharma continued his aggressive approach even in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. The right-hander took the attack to the bowlers and gave his team a brutal start yet again. Even though the team lost Shubman Gill (4) early, he continued batting the same way.

Rohit Sharma took Australian bowlers to the cleaners and made sure that his team scored over 80 runs in the powerplay. The Indian skipper got out in the 10th over as he tried to take on Glenn Maxwell despite scoring 10 runs in the over earlier.

Shreevats Goswami highlighted that Rohit Sharma scored freely throughout the entire tournament because of Virat Kohli. But in a game like the final, he should’ve tried to score big as he was set. Taking to his X account, he explained:

“While everyone is going ga ga over Rohit Sharma’s intent ! It’s brilliant ,but he can play that way cause he knows there’s Virat to score big , but he can’t in every game can he ? That is why specially in ODI cricket when you have time & you are set , you need to score big & today was a huge opportunity!! India somehow need to get past 250 here.”

Rohit Sharma scored 47 runs off 31 balls in the big final. He batted with a strike rate of 151.61 and also smashed 4 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. His rollicking start made sure India got over 80 runs in the powerplay.

IND vs AUS: Record broken by Rohit Sharma In World Cup

Rohit Sharma scored 597 runs in 11 innings in the ICC World Cup 2023. He had a staggering average of 54.27 and a strike rate of 125.94. The Indian captain also scored one century and three half-centuries. He broke quite a few records as he smashed most sixes (31) in a World Cup

Rohit Sharma also bagged the record for most runs by a captain in World Cup history. He also has the second-highest SR in a World Cup (Minimum 400+ runs). The Indian captain scored 401 runs at a SR of 135 in overs 1 to 10 (the most in the tournament).

Former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram mocked the critics yet again amidst the debate over Rohit Sharma’s coin tosses in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. Wasim Akram expressed the hope that people might now be content after India lost the toss in the final encounter.

Former Pakistani cricketer Sikandar Bakht claimed that Rohit intentionally threw the coin far away from Kiwis captain Kane Williamson. Fox Cricket reported a source from the New Zealand camp, indicating that Sharma’s coin tosses had raised concerns within their team.

Hope That People Are Satisfied After India Loss The Toss – Wasim Akram

During an appearance on a local TV channel, Wasim Akram humorously predicted that critics would continue finding new reasons to question, playfully suggesting that some might attribute the loss to the coin landing on the sponsor’s logo.

“I hope that people are satisfied after India lost the toss today. But I’m sure they will find a way to question this too. Some would say that the coin landed on the sponsor’s logo today, which is why India lost the toss,” Akram said on a local TV channel.

Rohit lost the toss in the final match against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. The hosts were asked to bat in the final by Australian skipper Pat Cummins. Rohit managed to win just five tosses of the 11 matches in the event.

Rohit Sharma Toss It Far Away From Other Captain – Sikander Bakht

Sikander Bakht suggested that Rohit deliberately tossed the coin far from the opposition captain to prevent them from accurately verifying the outcome. Bakht stated that Rohit throws it far enough so that the opposing captain can’t see the actual result.

“Can I give you a conspiracy theory? If you see closely enough, whenever Rohit Sharma gets to flip the coin for the toss, he also tosses it far away from the other captain. It is almost far enough that the other captain never really gets to see what the actual outcome of the toss was,” Bakht said.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra mocked Pakistani fans who expressed confidence in India’s defeat in the final match of the ICC World Cup 2023. Aakash Chopra humorously noted that Pakistani fans have been hoping for India’s loss since the morning of October 14.

India secured a convincing victory against Pakistan in the league match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14. The Men in Green were restricted to a total of 191 runs. The Men in Blue successfully chased down that target with over 19 overs to spare.

They Have Been Hopeful Of India’s Defeat – Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra took to his X (formerly known as Twitter) to state that Pakistani fans are more confident than Australian supporters in the Pat Cummins-led team’s victory.

“Itna confidence toh Australian public ko Australia ke jeetne ka nahin hai…jitna hamare padosiyon ko hai. Khair…unhe toh Bharat ki haar ki ummeed 14th October ki subah se hai. (Even the Australian public isn’t as confident about Australia winning as our neighbors are. Well…they have been hopeful of India’s defeat since the morning of October 14th),” Chopra wrote.

India and Pakistan experienced contrasted outcomes in their campaigns at the World Cup. India reached the final with an impressive streak of 10 consecutive wins. Pakistan struggled to qualify for the semi-finals, finishing fifth in the table with four victories from nine games.

Good Guys Don’t Always Finish Last – Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra lauded Rohit Sharma for his consistent and impactful performance. He highlighted that Rohit led the team by example, setting the tone as the captain.

“Something beautiful has happened if we talk about this World Cup. Everyone has suddenly started realizing how important Rohit Sharma is. If someone scores 40-odd runs, it is not celebrated that much. However, he has scored more than 500 runs and the way he has scored them.”

“Everyone is saying that the captain is walking the talk, showing the way, and setting the tone. Good guys don’t always finish last; that’s Rohit Sharma. You will expect the same from him once again,” he added.

The Rohit Sharma-led team are taking on the Pat Cummins-led side at the World’s Largest Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19.

Rohit Sharma didn’t hold back from carrying an aggressive approach in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He scored a brisk 47 off 31 deliveries before Travis Head caught a stunner off Glenn Maxwell’s delivery. However, Rohit Sharma broke another World Cup record in his innings of 47 against Australia in the finals.

Rohit Sharma broke New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson’s record of scoring the most runs in a single edition of the World Cup as a captain. Kane Williamson scored 578 runs in the 2019 edition of the World Cup as New Zealand’s captain. However, Rohit Sharma finished his batting campaign at the 2023 World Cup with 597 runs in 11 innings with an average of 54.27.

The Indian skipper provided the ‘much important’ start in the final powering India to a total of 80 runs in the first ten overs. He slammed four boundaries and three sixes in his innings and created a huge impact on India’s scorecard after Shubman Gill went back to the pavilion early on.

Rohit Sharma Tops The Elite List Of Captains Scoring Most Runs In World Cup

The list consists of big names like Ricky Ponting, AB de Villiers, Mahela Jayawardene, and Aaron Finch. After Rohit Sharma (597) and Kane Williamson (578), Mahela Jayawardene comes third on the list. The former Sri Lankan skipper scored 548 runs in the 2007 edition of the World Cup. He took Sri Lanka to the finals of the 2007 World Cup but lost to Australia.

After Mahela Jayawardene, comes the Aussie legend Ricky Ponting who scored 539 runs in the 2007 edition where Australia won the World Cup for a third consecutive time. Ricky Ponting is followed by another Australian skipper Aaron Finch who scored 507 runs in the 2019 edition of the World Cup while leading Australia to the semi-finals where they lost to arch-rivals England.

AB de Villiers follows next who scored 482 runs in the 2015 edition of the World Cup. In fact, he led South Africa to the semi-finals of the World Cup but eventually suffered a heartbreaking defeat against New Zealand. The ODI World Cup has seen a lot of captains leading their team from the front but Rohit Sharma has set an example that a selfless and aggressive approach can create a lasting impact on the team’s total.

Rohit Sharma wicket - Travis Head catch

Indian captain Rohit Sharma yet again had a decent outing in the ICC World Cup 2023. The opening batter continued his aggressive style of play even in the final against Australia at the buzzing Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Rohit Sharma after getting a feel of the pitch took attack to the Australian bowlers and made sure that he took his team off the flyer. The Indian captain looked unfazed by the wicket of Shubman Gill at the other end and continued attacking even after he lost his partner.

Rohit Sharma smashed every bowler he faced and was looking dangerous. But his stay at the crease was cut short brilliance of Travis Head on the field. The Australian batter took a blinder in the field and it’s fair to say that an effort like that was needed to dismiss the Indian skipper who looked threatening.

Rohit Sharma tried to hit flighted delivery angling away from Glenn Maxwell out of the park. He didn’t have a great connection and ended up slicing it high. Travis Head ran back from the cover and put in a full stretch dive and grabbed it inches from the ground.

After the wicket of Rohit Sharma, India lost Shreyas Iyer (4) as well. They came under a bit of pressure and the crowd was silenced as well. India was reduced to 81/3 in no time. The onus will now be on Virat Kohli and KL Rahul to take the team to a decent total and put pressure on the opposition.

Former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan offered advice to Rohit Sharma ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023 final against Australia. Atul Wassan suggested that Rohit Sharma should adopt a measured approach rather than an ultra-aggressive one in the high-pressure encounter.

Rohit Sharma has been in brilliant form, providing flying starts to the team throughout the tournament. The right-handed batter attempted to unsettle the opposition bowlers in the power play. He scored 550 runs at an average of 55 and an impressive strike rate of 124.15.

Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma Are Legends – Atul Wassan

Speaking to ANI ahead of the India-Australia final, Atul Wassan described the Australian team as dangerous, with experience in big matches and a never-die spirit. Wassan hoped India wouldn’t have a bad day in the final match of the tournament.

“The preparation has been nice since we have won all our matches. It seems that the match will be easy but it would not be the case as I know the Australian team well and have played with them,” Wassan told ANI.

“They are energetic and dangerous. They have that never-die spirit. They have six to eight players from the 2015 and 2019 World Cups so they have experience of big matches. In India, cricket is a matter of life and death. Our players know it and soak the pressure. That is why Virat Kohli and Rohit are legends. Every team had a bad day in this WC. Hope this never comes for us,” Wassan added.

They Will Be Out Trump Cards – Atul Wassan

Atul Wassan expressed concern that Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood could exploit Rohit Sharma’s aggressive approach in the final. Wassan acknowledged that Australia gained momentum after losing the first two matches in the World Cup.

“Rohit has been over-attacking in his approach. But I fear that Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will do well against him so he should take a measured approach. Australia lost two matches but they got momentum at the right time. We have been maintaining a peak for so long on the other hand,” he further added.

“All players are performing well, that is why the team is doing good. Earlier, only one or two players used to play really well and the rest were not up to the mark. Rohit has set a platform for the rest with his batting, that is why Virat Kohli has performed so well.”

“Mohammed Shami has performed so well, but it is Jasprit Bumrah who puts the pressure on batters due to which other bowlers are thriving. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav have also played their roles well, they will be our trump cards tomorrow,” Wassan concluded.

Michael Clarke and Rohit Sharma

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke expressed his admiration for Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s aggressive batting approach in the ICC World Cup 2023. Michael Clarke stated that Rohit Sharma would be his opening batter in the One Day World XI right now.

Rohit Sharma has been a standout player for the Indian team in the batting department during the World Cup. He scored 550 runs in 10 matches at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 124.15. He has the best strike rate among the top 10 leading run-getters in the event.

Rohit Sharma’s Style Allowed Other Batters To Play Their Way – Michael Clarke

In an interview with Boria Majumdar on the show Backstage with Boria, Michael Clarke acknowledged Rohit’s impactful performances, stating that his playing style benefited his teammates, particularly Virat Kohli.

“If I am picking a One Day World XI right now, Rohit Sharma is my opening batsman. The way he has played has allowed the guys around him to play their way. It allows Virat to play his natural game, and he’s been on fire as well,” Clarke told RevSportz.

Rohit Sharma Is As Dangerous As Virat Kohli – Michael Clarke

Michael Clarke described Rohit Sharma as one of the best one-day players globally, not just within the Indian team. He commended Rohit’s aggressive batting style and ability to assess the pitch quickly, highlighting his confidence and skill

“Rohit’s role is by far one of the best one-day players of all time, not just the best one-day player in the Indian team of all time. The way he bats, his aggressive approach, the way he takes on the bowlers, even watching the other day against New Zealand, there was a little bit of swing. It took two balls to assess the pitch, not two overs. The wicket’s a little bit slow, and the best time to score is going to be this brand-new ball.”

“It just takes a certain player to be able to not only have that skill but also have confidence in your own abilities. In the first over of the game, he hit it over mid-wicket or did it over mid-off, but we don’t like his risk in that. I would never underestimate Rohit Sharma, and if I’m in Australia in this final, I’d be thinking Rohit is just as dangerous as Virat Kohli,” Clarke further stated.

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has made a big statement on Rohit Sharma leading into the India vs Australia final in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The match will culminate in what has been a terrific tournament. The Aussies are looking for their sixth World Cup title while India is their third.

Rohit Sharma has scored 550 runs in 10 matches at an average of 55. he has scored just one hundred and three fifties but has still scored over 500 runs in the tournament. He has been the key behind giving India the fast starts in almost all the matches.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Aakash Chopra said that Rohit Sharma should bat at least for the first 10 overs to set the tone for India in the final.

Akash Chopra Lauds Rohit Sharma

“Rohit’s presence for 10+ overs is enough to set the tone for the finals. Especially if it’s a slow-pitch that’s not ideal for a huge total. So…if you’re praying for something specific for today’s game, just pray for Rohit’s extended run in the middle. Rest will take care of itself. #CWC2023Final #IndvAus” wrote Chopra on his official Twitter handle elaborating on the importance of Rohit Sharma at the top for India.

The former Indian opener has further made some bold predictions about the final. He said that if India bats first, they will score over 300 and win the match by 50 runs, However, if Australia bats first, they might score between 230-240 while India will win the match by at least six wickets. He has backed India to win the match in both scenarios.

“We just want to go out there, keep it nice and easy, and calm. I had said then, ‘Yeah it’ll be nice to win’. In the same tone, I want to say it again: it’ll be nice to win, [and] we’ve worked really hard. But I don’t want to get too excited and feel much pressure about it” said the Indian skipper.

India and Australia will square off against each other in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. However, if any team can pull off an upset against this Indian side, it is the mighty Aussies who are looking for a sixth World Cup title.

Ahead of the summit clash, Rohit talked about his role as an aggressor in this World Cup. He was clear about his role as a batter and said that he would like to carry on with this approach in the finals.

“It’s quite important, when I talk about role clarity, all seven of us know exactly what we have to go out there and do and perform the role. Me being the captain of the team obviously I had to decide what I had to do, and how I had to play and then there was a discussion with the management as well as what we wanted to do from this batting group,” said Rohit.

The Indian skipper talked about how the guys behind him gave him confidence and the freedom to express himself on the field. The flying starts given by Rohit Sharma have been converted to massive totals by the middle-order batters who are in great form.

“Things have fallen in place pretty well actually, and it has given me the freedom knowing that the guys behind me are in great form. Even if there are any hiccups, these guys can take the role and take the team forward even if we are under pressure. So it gives me a lot of confidence at the top to go out there and express myself and do what I’ve been doing from game one, so it’s quite pleasing as well,” Rohit added.

Rohit Sharma is just one win away from being the third Indian captain to win a World Cup title. He has been selfless with his batting in the entire World Cup, giving starts and ensuring complete dominance in the powerplay. If there is any team that deserves to win the World Cup is the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma.

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh named pacer Mohammed Shami as his Player of the Tournament in the ICC World Cup 2023. Yuvraj Singh emphasized that Mohammed Shami deserves the award for setting the stage on fire despite not playing in all the matches.

Mohammed Shami has been India’s standout bowler in the event, leading the bowling charts with 23 scalps at an economy rate of 5.01. He achieved three five-wicket hauls and a four-for. Notably, he recorded the best figures (7/57) by an Indian in ODIs in the semifinal.

India Always Had Match-Winners – Yuvraj Singh

Speaking to Sports Tak, Yuvraj Singh pointed out the depth of match-winners on India’s bench. Singh emphasized that Mohammed Shami’s contributions have been outstanding, especially in the absence of Hardik Pandya.

“India always had match-winners on the bench. I won’t say Hardik’s injury was a blessing in disguise, but everyone was waiting to see how Shami would perform, and the way he has set the stage on fire has been outstanding. I feel if anyone deserves the Player of the Tournament award, it’s Mohammed Shami,” Yuvraj told Sports Tak.

The 33-year-old wasn’t included in the playing XI for the first four matches as the team management preferred batting depth. However, Shami got an opportunity to play following Pandya’s injury. He went wicketless against the Netherlands in the World Cup.

Rohit Sharma And Rahul Dravid Deserve It – Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj stated that Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid have an opportunity to secure their first World Cup medal, expressing that they deserve it. He highlighted the uncertainty in the team’s composition before the Asia Cup, but the player’s return helped in the World Cup.

“Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid have a chance to get their first World Cup medal. They deserve it. Before the Asia Cup, we were wondering where the Indian ODI team is because we didn’t know the combination. However, the return of Iyer, Rahul and Bumrah certainly made a difference,” Yuvraj added.

Rahul Dravid came close to winning the World Cup in 2003 as a player but lost to Australia in the summit clash. Rohit Sharma wasn’t part of India’s winning squad in 2011. Sharma had opportunities in the next two editions but faced elimination in the semi-finals both times.

Pat Cummins, World Cup Final, India vs Australia

The Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team are set to lock horns with the Pat Cummins-led Australia National Cricket Team in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19.

Ahead of the clash, the pitch has once again become the talking point as a slow track is expected for the match. The summit clash will be played on a used surface, where India and Pakistan had locked horns on October 14 and the Men In Blue thrashed the Babar Azam & Co.

The pitch for the India vs Pakistan game was rated as “average” rating by the ICC. It was the second pitch of the World Cup to get an “average” rating, with the first one being the Chennai surface which hosted India’s tournament opener against Australia.

Meanwhile, the players and coaches of both India and Australia scrutinized the Ahmedabad pitch ahead of the final. Post scrutiny, the main concern that emerged from Australia’s point of view was the five-meter patch in front of the crease on both sides of the ground, according to the report in Cricbuzz.

The five-meter patch on both sides wasn’t watered properly, which led to the belief in the Australian camp that spinners would have a major role on the track. However, the Aussies were not surprised with the pitch as they expected spinners to have a say in the game. This is not the first time that the pitch has gained huge attention as ahead of India’s semi-final game a massive ‘pitch switch’ controversy happened.

Rohit Sharma, Pat Cummins Share Their Views On Ahmedabad Pitch For The World Cup Final

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Rohit Sharma said that there is a massive difference between the pitch that was used for India vs Pakistan game and the one that will be used for the World Cup final. He said:

“There was no grass on that wicket but this has a bit of grass on it. The wicket from India vs Pakistan was a lot drier. I still haven’t looked at the wicket today. But from my understanding, it’s going to be on a slower side. We’ll see the pitch tomorrow and assess.”

“The temperature has dropped a bit as well. I don’t know how much of a factor the dew will be because in that Pakistan game, there was a lot of dew during training but not on matchday. The same happened at Wankhede where there was dew one day before but not during the semis. I don’t think the toss will play a big role.”

Australia National Cricket Team captain Pat Cummins, meanwhile, said that the pitch looked quite good. He said that the hosts will have a slight advantage but added that the Aussies have also played a lot of cricket there.

“Again, I’m not a great pitch reader, but it looked pretty firm. They’ve only just watered it, so yeah, give it another 24 hours and have a look, but it looks like a pretty good wicket,” Pat Cummins said before adding: “Yes, I think Pakistan played someone there.”

“Yeah, hard to know, I think it’s been a bit more high-scoring here throughout the tournament. Yeah, it’s been a pretty good wicket, so yeah, hard to say.”

“No doubt playing on your own wicket in your own country has some advantages, similar to wickets that you’ve been playing your whole life. But we’ve played a lot of cricket over here”

India will be heading into the summit clash with a 10-match winning streak while Australia will enter the match with an 8-match winning streak.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma lauded head coach Rahul Dravid ahead of the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He highlighted how the former Indian skipper has been spot-on with his clarity for players and they want to win the tournament for him.

The duo of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid has played a great role in shaping the Indian team. After Virat Kohli was sacked as the captain of the team, there seemed to be a gap in the team and the environment didn’t look great inside the dressing room as well.

But head coach Rahul Dravid played a massive role in bringing the team back on track. He was criticized a lot when India suffered quite a few defeats, including the thrashing at the hands of England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. But with the way the team has come back after that is something to cherish for everyone.

India have been extremely dominant in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. They have won 10 out of the 10 games in the tournament and will be playing in the final against Australia on 19th November. They will be entering as favorites as they have played a magnificent brand of cricket.

Rohit Sharma talked about Rahul Dravid and said that a lot of credit for the team’s success goes to the head coach. He highlighted that the former Indian skilled has given the freedom to play freely. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“His [Dravid’s] role has been absolutely massive in terms of getting that clarity which I keep talking about. It’s one thing for me to think about and another thing for the coach to not agree to certain things.

“Clearly, looking at how Rahul bhai himself has played his cricket and how I play these days is quite contrasting. For him to agree and give me that freedom and liberty to go and play like that says a lot about him.”

IND vs AUS: It’s for us to do it for him – Rohit Sharma on Rahul Dravid

Rohit Sharma highlighted how Rahul Dravid stood by players after T20 World Cup 2022 loss. The Indian captain also heaped rich praise on the head coach for his contribution to Indian cricket. He explained:

“Also the way he has stood by the players in difficult times, especially during and after the T20 World Cup. We had a good run up until the semi-finals and then we lost. And how he reacted to certain situations and informed the players about how we want to play says a lot about him as well. And obviously what he has done for Indian cricket is massive. He too feels that he wants to be a part of this big occasion. It’s for us to do it for him.”

India will be entering the game on the back of 10 consecutive wins in the tournament whereas Australia have won 8 games on trot.

India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma has stated that the pitch used for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad would be on a slower side. The summit clash of the World Cup will see the battle between Rohit Sharma-led India and Pat Cummins-led Australia on Sunday, November 19.

The match between the two teams is set to be staged on a used surface, which had hosted the India vs Pakistan league stage match. India had dominated in that game and absolutely hammered the arch-rivals in front of over 1 lakh cricket fans.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Rohit Sharma said that there is a massive difference between the pitch that was used for the India vs Pakistan game and the one that will be used for the World Cup final. He said:

“There was no grass on that wicket but this has a bit of grass on it. The wicket from India vs Pakistan was a lot drier. I still haven’t looked at the wicket today. But from my understanding, it’s going to be on a slower side. We’ll see the pitch tomorrow and assess.”

Rohit Sharma added that the toss will not play a major role in the high-octane summit clash. He reasoned:

“The temperature has dropped a bit as well. I don’t know how much of a factor the dew will be because in that Pakistan game, there was a lot of dew during training but not on matchday. The same happened at Wankhede where there was dew one day before but not during the semis. I don’t think the toss will play a big role.”

Australia have won 8 out of 8, They have played good cricket – Rohit Sharma

India will be heading into the summit clash with a 10-match winning streak while Australia will enter the match with an 8-match winning streak.

Rohit Sharma, while talking about Australia, said that they have played really good cricket and deserving candidates to play in the final.

“Australia have won 8 out of 8. They have played good cricket and both the teams deserve to be in the finals. We know what Australia can do. They are a very complete side. We want to focus on what we want to do. We don’t want to worry about what kind of form they are in rather focus on our cricket and plans,” he said.

India National Cricket Team entered the final after defeating the New Zealand National Cricket Team by 70 runs in the first semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Aussies, on the other hand, beat South Africa National Cricket Team by 3 wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata to book a final berth.

India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma spoke to reporters ahead of the summit clash of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The media interaction was a typical ‘Rohit Sharma press conference’ as the Indian captain was at his hilarious best and some of his remarks left the reporters present there in splits.

However, at the point during the media interaction, the Indian captain was left annoyed. That happened when suddenly a mobile phone of some journalist rang when Rohit Sharma was responding to a question. The interruption frustrated Rohit Sharma and he annoyingly said “Kya yaar phone band rakho yaar” (Come on yaar, switch off your phone).

Watch The Clip Here:

The summit clash of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will see a high-voltage battle between the Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Pat Cummins-led Australia National Cricket Team at the world’s largest cricket stadium – Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad – on Sunday, November 19.

It was tough for Mohammed Shami not to be part of the World Cup initially – Rohit Sharma

At the pre-match press conference, Rohit spoke at length about various topics including the inclusion of Mohammed Shami in the playing XI following Hardik Pandya’s injury. He said:

“It was tough for Mohammed Shami not to be part of the World Cup initially. He was there to help Mohammed Siraj, and it shows his quality. We told him why he wasn’t part of it and he worked in nets. The results are showing and say a lot about him.”

Rohit further clarified that he doesn’t believe in things like aura and he doesn’t think about the past or future with his focus always remaining on the present. Rohit Sharma said:

“I don’t believe in auras and stuff. You have to land up and play good cricket. If you make mistakes tomorrow, all the good work of 10 games will be wasted. Past and future aren’t things we fret about, and we have focused on the present. What happened in 2003 is something I am not thinking about.”

“I would go as far as to say he is my player of the tournament” – Michael Vaughan on Rohit Sharma

Former England National Cricket Team captain Michael Vaughan is mighty impressed with the performance of Rohit Sharma and he picked the Indian captain as his Player of the Touranament.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma opened up about his emotions on leading India in the ICC World Cup 2023 final. He said that he never thought that he would captain the team at such a big event after missing out on the team of the 2011 World Cup.

The story of Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been fantastic. He was dropped from the Indian squad for the ICC World Cup 2011 and after that, he was completely shattered. The batter has been quite open about what he went through during that phase and admitted that it was the hardest time in his career.

But 12 years later, he will be captaining the Indian team in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He put in hard yards after that setback and became the backbone of the team in all three formats of the game. He was handed the captaincy of the team when Virat Kohli stepped down in 2021 and after that, he has been exceptional as a leader.

However, his real test will be when India will take on Australia in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 on Sunday (19th November). Rohit Sharma will be one of the crucial players for the team heading into the final as he led from the front and is one of the main reasons behind the team reaching the final undefeated.

Rohit Sharma said that he just wanted to create a good space in the team. He admitted that it was a hard time for him in 2011 but he’s delighted with the present. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“It was a very emotional and hard time in 2011 but I am very happy at this stage, I never thought I will lead the team in a final but if you wish, that will happen – I just wanted to create good space in the team”.

IND vs AUS: I am very happy about the environment created by me & Rahul Bhai – Rohit Sharma

The environment in the Indian team has been fabulous. Players have enjoyed each other’s company and there have been exceptional. Rohit Sharma talked about the team’s environment, saying that he’s delighted with the space they have created for the team.

“I am very happy about the environment created by me & Rahul Bhai – players have responded well, without worrying about the outside noise or scores of a particular match”.

Rohit Sharma has scored 550 runs in the tournament in 10 innings. He would be hoping to add to his tally and take the team to glory.

India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma attended a press conference ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final and he was asked about the inclusion of the veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI.

Ravichandran Ashwin was a last-minute addition to the Indian World Cup squad after Axar Patel got ruled out with an injury. The veteran off-spinner has so far featured only in one game in the World Cup, which was India’s tournament opener against the Aussies in Chennai.

There are speculations about his inclusion in the playing XI for the World Cup final in case the track produced for the game is spin-friendly. And the Indian captain was asked about the same at the pre-match press conference.

Rohit Sharma responded to the question, saying that they haven’t made the decision regarding the playing XI and will pick the team based on the conditions on the day of the game. He said:

“We haven’t decided on it. We will assess the pitch and will see it again tomorrow. Our 12-13 are decided. But we will come and see what is our strength. We will decide tomorrow.”

Leading up to every game, we have been calm and composed – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma also said that they have been very calm in the lead-up to every game in the World Cup. He added that as an Indian cricketer, they always remain under pressure but the team management has tried to maintain a calm environment in the dressing room. He stated:

“Leading up to every game, we have been calm and composed about what we want to do. We know what the outside environment is, the expectations, and pressure. It’s important to stick to our game and this has been happening for a long time.

“We have worked on maintaining the calmness in the dressing room. Inside what they feel, I don’t know, how they’ll be feeling. But when in meetings, trainings, everyone is calm. Being an Indian cricketer, you have to deal with pressure.”

Virat Kohli will look to smack another century in IND vs AUS ICC World Cup 2023 final. Kohli will bat in the middle-order. During the middle overs, he will face spinner Adam Zampa. Kohli is the most successful batter for India in ICC World Cup 2023.

Similarly, Zampa is the most successful bowler for the Aussies. Zampa will aim to outplay Kohli with his spin attack. Zampa has a good record against Kohli and has dismissed him in 5 ODIs out of 13 clashes. On the other hand, Kohli holds a strike rate of 109+ while facing Zampa.

David Warner is the leading run-getter for Australia while Mohammed Shami is the leading wicket-taker for India. Shami has provided initial breakthroughs to the team in many games. He was not part of the team in the previous clash against Australia in the tournament.

This time, he will aim for a stunning show. Dismissing David Warner early will be a crucial breakthrough for India and Shami will have to duty to outplay him. Warner struggles against Shami as the Indian pacer has dismissed him 3 times across 11 ODIs. Warner has a poor strike rate of 88.0 while facing Shami in ODIs.

India and Australia will lock horns against each other in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will witness the iconic final on Sunday, November 19. India has an opportunity to win the title while being unbeaten in the entire tournament. Only West Indies and Australia have managed to win the World Cup while going unbeaten in the tournament.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri talked about the importance of the first ten overs in the final. He believes that the first ten overs will be crucial for both the teams and both India and Australia have dominated the first ten overs in the tournament.

“I think that the first 10 overs are very crucial. India has got some great starts, especially with the way Rohit has exploded at the top. That makes a difference. Similarly with Australia, if they take off, that will give them a lot of confidence. David Warner, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh are dangerous players,” said Ravi Shastri, as quoted by TOI.

Ravi Shastri Is Desperate For The Indian Team To Win

When Ravi Shastri was the head coach of India, the Indian team failed to win any ICC event. The Men In Blue reached the finals of the 2017 Champions Trophy but lost to Pakistan. They were eliminated by New Zealand in the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup. However, Ravi Shastri is happy that his batch of players are fruitfully performing in this World Cup. He wants Rohit Sharma to lift the World Cup as it could be the last World Cup in his career.

“It is very heartening and I am desperate for them to win. When I was there, I was very disappointed that a team of this calibre did not win the World Cup. When I left, I said to the boys: ‘You deserve to win the World Cup. Stay focused, be determined and the time will come.’ That time has come. A guy like Rohit, he is a giant in white-ball cricket. For him to go without a World Cup in his career, will not be great. This is the last opportunity for six or seven players to win it,” he added.

India and Australia have previously faced each other in the finals of the 2003 World Cup where Ricky Ponting and his men devoured the Indian team. It is time for the Indian team to avenge the losses of 2003 and the World Test Championship. If India defeats Australia in the finals, they will become only the second nation with at least three World Cup titles.

However, Australia will not be an easy opponent as they are gearing up to claim a record-extending sixth World Cup title on Sunday. The world will witness a riveting encounter between two superpowers of Cricket as India and Australia battle it out at the ultimate stage.

Former Indian all-rounder and Player of the Tournament in the 2011 World Cup Yuvraj Singh has worked closely with star opener Shubman Gill in the past and has been impressed with the way he has performed in the World Cup so far. Shubman Gill missed the first two matches of the tournament as he was suffering from dengue. He also had to go off the field ‘retired hurt’ on 79 after he suffered a cramp in his hamstring in the semifinal.

Shubman Gill has had a terrific 2023 scoring over 1500 runs with an average nearing 66 in 28 games. However, his ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign has been decent quite far. He has scored 350 runs with an average of 50 in eight innings. Shubman has hit four half-centuries in this World Cup and is still looking to cross the three-figure mark at the biggest stage.

Yuvraj Singh Has A Special Message For Shubman Gill

Speaking to Sports Tak ahead of the World Cup final between India and Australia, Yuvraj Singh talked about the opportunity of playing in a World Cup final for Shubman Gill. He said, “Shubman has had his health challenges, but despite that, his performances have been outstanding. I don’t know whether he had cramps or a hamstring niggle in the last game. But I feel he should play anyhow in the final. Just give it your all because a chance to play in the World Cup final doesn’t come every day. It’s probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Yuvraj Singh is also hopeful that the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will give India another flying start. He added, “Absolutely, India is playing dominant cricket and teams are fearing to face them. When Rohit and Shubman get off to a flying start, we end up scoring 350-400 runs. The only situation I feel where India might feel the pressure is if they lose their top three early. The middle order has come in with a platform set so far, but how will they handle the situation of early wickets fall is something which will be interesting to see.”

Rohit Sharma Has Led By Example

Yuvraj Singh lauded Rohit Sharma for the way he has led his team by example both in the field and with the bat. He spoke about the calmness Rohit has displayed under pressure and mentioned it as one of the main reasons why India has done so well in the tournament.

Yuvraj Singh said, “Rohit Sharma is a team player. I feel one of the main reasons why India has been so successful has been his captaincy under pressure. Even in the semifinal against New Zealand, he held back his strike bowlers and brought them into the attack only when the partnership began to look threatening. He has captained really well so far.”

India has a chance to go on and win the World Cup title while being unbeaten in the tournament if they manage to beat Australia in the finals. The Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad will host the iconic final between the two teams.

Australia is gearing up to win their sixth World Cup title whereas India is hoping to clinch the World Cup title for a third time. After 47 matches we have our finalists and it will be the most riveting contest between the two of them to decide who lifts the title.

Wasim Jaffer has humorously responded to an accusation made against India in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Team India have been the most dominant side in the tournament and have won all of their ten teams.

After being accused of manipulating the DRS and bowling with a different ball, India have also been accused of cheating in the toss. Recently, former Pakistan cricketer Sikandar Bakht recently pointed fingers at India captain Rohit Sharma. With Rohit throwing the coin a bit far from him and the other captain, Bakht suggested that he did it so that the opposition captain wouldn’t see the result.

“Can I be allowed a little mischief? At the time of the toss, Rohit Sharma throws the coin far from the range of any opposition captain. Thus, the opposition captain cannot go and cross-check about the call,” Bakht said on a Pakistani channel.

Wasim Jaffer Reacts To Sikander Bakht’s Comments

Wasim Jaffer has reacted hilariously to the controversy. One day before the much-awaited final, the former India opener posted a video in which the captain is seen throwing the coin far away for the toss and wrote:

“Hope @ImRo45 does this at the toss tomorrow just to make fun of all the baseless theorists 😂”

Following the toss controversy, Pakistan legend Wasim Akram slammed Bakht for his distasteful comment as he said: “Who decides where the coin should land? The mat is just for sponsorship! I feel embarrassed. I can’t even… I don’t even want to comment on it.”

India eye World Cup title:

Team India would be looking to extend their winning run in the ongoing ICC World Cup and win the title. India have stormed into the final after winning all of their ten matches so far. They are the only unbeaten side in the competition.

In the final, the Men in Blue will lock horns against Australia. The team from Down Under began their campaign with two defeats before winning eight games in a row. The final is scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (November 19).

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra shared his verdict on the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 between India and Australia. He made a bold remark, saying that it’ll be a one-sided affair if the Rohit Sharma-led side opt to bat first.

India and Australia will be up against each other in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. The match will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 19th November (Sunday). It promises to be an enthralling contest as both the teams have played a magnificently brand of cricket and have entertained the crowd big time.

India will be entering the game on the back of 10 consecutive wins in the tournament whereas Australia have won 8 games on trot. With conditions and crowd in their favor and with the way they have played throughout the tournament, it’s fair to say that Men in Blue will be favorites to win the game.

The pressure for both teams will be high and the margin of error will be very low. For India, it’ll be a great opportunity to end their ICC title drought and lift their first Trophy after 2013. Australia on the other hand are used to playing finals and they will know what to do exactly.

Aakash Chopra believes that Australia’s fate will be dependent on individual performance. He said that one among David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Glenn Maxwell must have a sensational outing if Men in Yellow have to fancy their chances of winning. Taking to his X account, be explained:

“Tomorrow, Australia fate will be relying on ‘individual brilliance’ with the bat. Hoping for one between Warner-Marsh-Maxwell to have the night of their lives. And that too…if Australia gets to bat first. If India bats first, I’m expecting a one-sided game in India’s favour.”

IND vs AUS: As a captain, he’s going to leave behind a legacy that everyone will remember – Aakash Chopra on Rohit Sharma

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is one of the main reasons behind India reaching the final of the ICC World Cup. He has batted aggressively at the top and has taken his team to glory.

Aakash Chopra feels that Rohit Sharma is leaving a legacy behind that he will be remembered by everyone. He had said:

“In the last World Cup, Rohit became really famous for scoring five centuries, but his team didn’t win. He wasn’t in the 2011 World Cup team, but now, in 2023, it feels like it’s his World Cup. As a captain, he’s going to leave behind a legacy that everyone will remember.”

Rohit Sharma has scored 550 runs in 10 innings that he has played so far. He would be hoping to play a big knock in the final and help his team lift the Cup.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

Former India fast-bowler Ashish Nehra has credited Virat Kohli for Rohit Sharma’s fearless batting in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Rohit has received praise from all quarters for his selfless approach with the bat in the tournament. The India skipper has cared little about personal milestones in the competition and has ensured to give India a fast start. In 10 games so far, Rohit has scored 550 runs at a strike-rate of almost 125.

On the other hand, Kohli has faced criticism for his approach with the bat despite being the leading run-scorer in the competition. The former India skipper has scored 711 runs in 10 games with the help of 3 centuries and 5 half-centuries. However, he has been criticized by many for his strike rate.

Ashish Nehra, however, believes that the batting approaches of Rohit and Kohli are a part of the same plan. The World Cup-winning bowler stated that Rohit can play fearlessly and aggressively only because of Kohli’s presence.

“Why Rohit Sharma can play so fearless and aggressively is because Virat Kohli is there. Virat Kohli plays with his time because Rohit Sharma plays like this so both seem to be two sides of a coin, they play together for the team,” Ashish Nehra told Cricbuzz.

Rohit Sharma Eyes Historic Title:

Rohit Sharma is just one win away from creating history. The Mumbai star is on the verge of becoming only the third Indian captain to win the World Cup. The other Indian captains to achieve this incredible feat are legendary Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni. He can also become only the fourth captain to win the title at home.

India have not won the World Cup since 2011 and will be desperate to end their long wait in the ongoing tournament. India have also not won an ICC competition since MS Dhoni led the team to glory in the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Team India will lock horns against Australia in the World Cup final. The match is scheduled to take place on Sunday (November 19) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
