Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull joked about dropping Virat Kohli for the match against the Netherlands in the ICC World Cup 2023. Simon Doull emphasized that he picked South African opener Quinton de Kock as the leading run-getter of the tournament.

Quinton de Kock is the current leading scorer of the tournament, scoring 591 runs in nine matches at an impressive average of 65.67 and a strike rate of 109.24. The left-handed batter has smashed four centuries, scoring joint second-highest centuries in a single edition.

Virat Kohli is slightly behind Quinton de Kock in the ongoing marquee tournament’s batting charts, scoring 543 runs in eight matches at an outstanding average of 108.6 and a strike rate of 88.29. His remarkable performance includes four fifties and two centuries.

I Would Leave Virat Kohli – Simon Doull

Simon Doull expressed that he wants to keep Virat Kohli out of the team to prevent him from surpassing Quinton de Kock’s run total. Doull stated that Quinton de Kock will remain the leading scorer if Virat does not play in the upcoming match against the Netherlands.

“In an ICC show prior to this tournament, I had picked Quinton de Kock as the highest run-getter. So I would leave Kohli out so that he can’t pass Quinton and I would replace him with whoever that doesn’t really matter,” Doull said leaving the presenter in splits.

Do You Thing Virat Kohli Will Voluntarily Rest? – Ian Bishop

However, West Indies legend Ian Bishop was quick to point out Virat Kohli’s pursuit of Sachin Tendulkar’s record and his unwillingness to rest while on the brink of making history, to which Doull admitted his humor.

“Wait. Do you think Kohli will voluntarily rest when he is one century short of the record?” Bishop said.

“No chance. I just wanted to win something,” Doull replied.

Virat Kohli is just three centuries away from breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI centuries. The 35-year-old has scored two centuries against Bangladesh and South Africa. He narrowly missed the milestone on a couple of occasions in the tournament.

The Rohit Sharma-led team will face the Netherlands in their final league-stage match at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, November 12.
