Ishan Kishan has posted a heartwarming message for his senior teammate Virat Kohli after the latter’s historic knock during the semifinal clash between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday (November 15).
Kohli broke Tendulkar’s record for most ODI centuries after scoring his 50th century in the 50-over format. He had equaled Tendulkar’s record of 49 tons during India’s 243-run win over South Africa in the league stage earlier this month. And in the first semifinal of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, he went past Tendulkar by scoring another sublime century.
He reached the landmark in only his 279th innings. The right-handed batsman departed after scoring 117 runs off 123 balls with the help of 9 fours and a couple of sixes. On Thursday (November 16), Ishan Kishan took to his Instagram handle to post a story, hailing Kohli. Calling his teammate a living legend, Ishan Kishan wrote: “Thank you for being an inspiration. Words can’t describe the achievements of this champion player.”

“For me, this all feels like a dream. It’s too good to be true, it’s surreal. I never thought I would be here in my career,” Kohli said after the century.
“It’s difficult to explain but if I could paint the perfect picture I would want this to be the picture: my partner, the person I love the most is sitting there, my hero [Tendulkar] is sitting there. To get to 50 hundreds in front of them and the fans at this historic venue was amazing,” he added.
Meanwhile, India thrashed New Zealand by 70 runs to book a place in the final. Apart from Kohli, Shreyas Iyer scored a century too while Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 80 as India piled up 397 for 4 in 50 overs after Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first.
In reply, New Zealand came up with a valiant fight but eventually fell short as they were bowled out for 327 despite a century from Daryl Mitchell. For India, Mohammed Shami starred with the ball, taking 7 for 57 off his 10 overs.
