Former Australian captain Michael Clarke expressed his admiration for Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s aggressive batting approach in the ICC World Cup 2023. Michael Clarke stated that Rohit Sharma would be his opening batter in the One Day World XI right now.

Rohit Sharma has been a standout player for the Indian team in the batting department during the World Cup. He scored 550 runs in 10 matches at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 124.15. He has the best strike rate among the top 10 leading run-getters in the event.

Rohit Sharma’s Style Allowed Other Batters To Play Their Way – Michael Clarke

In an interview with Boria Majumdar on the show Backstage with Boria, Michael Clarke acknowledged Rohit’s impactful performances, stating that his playing style benefited his teammates, particularly Virat Kohli.

“If I am picking a One Day World XI right now, Rohit Sharma is my opening batsman. The way he has played has allowed the guys around him to play their way. It allows Virat to play his natural game, and he’s been on fire as well,” Clarke told RevSportz.

Rohit Sharma Is As Dangerous As Virat Kohli – Michael Clarke

Michael Clarke described Rohit Sharma as one of the best one-day players globally, not just within the Indian team. He commended Rohit’s aggressive batting style and ability to assess the pitch quickly, highlighting his confidence and skill

“Rohit’s role is by far one of the best one-day players of all time, not just the best one-day player in the Indian team of all time. The way he bats, his aggressive approach, the way he takes on the bowlers, even watching the other day against New Zealand, there was a little bit of swing. It took two balls to assess the pitch, not two overs. The wicket’s a little bit slow, and the best time to score is going to be this brand-new ball.”

“It just takes a certain player to be able to not only have that skill but also have confidence in your own abilities. In the first over of the game, he hit it over mid-wicket or did it over mid-off, but we don’t like his risk in that. I would never underestimate Rohit Sharma, and if I’m in Australia in this final, I’d be thinking Rohit is just as dangerous as Virat Kohli,” Clarke further stated.
