Veteran Indian batsman Ambati Rayudu has shared insights into his departure from the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Ambati Rayudu clarified that he had signed a contract to play in the CPL until August 28 due to prior commitments.

Earlier, Ambati Rayudu signed a deal with the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots to play as a marquee player in the ongoing edition of the CPL. The right-handed batter became the second Indian after spinner Pravin Tambe, who represented the Trinbago Knight Riders in 2020, to play in the CPL.

I Have Not Pulled Out But Finished My Agreement – Ambati Rayudu

Ambati Rayudu‘s stint in the league ended after only three matches. The organizers stated that he pulled out of the tournament due to ‘personal reasons’. However, Rayudu took to his official X handle (formerly known as Twitter) to provide clarification about leaving the franchise.

“I have agreed to play in the cpl only till the 28 th of August as I have had prior commitments.. so as stated in the media I have not pulled out but finished my agreement.. thank you @CPL and @sknpatriots,” Ambati Rayudu wrote.

The 37-year-old announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in India after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final. The Andhra batter played a crucial knock in the final to help the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinch the fifth title in the history of the tournament.

The former CSK batter managed only 47 runs in three innings during CPL 2023, averaging 15.66 with a strike rate of 117.50. The batter registered a golden duck on his league debut, followed by scoring 32 runs off 24 deliveries against the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the next match.

Ambati Rayudu will represent the MI Emirates in the International League T20 (ILT20) in 2024, as the franchise named him as one of the eight new players signed. He is set to join the Joburg Super Kings (JSK) franchise in the upcoming edition of Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) SA20 league.
