The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is planning to prioritise the inaugural The Hundred and Vitality Blast Twenty20 tournament over County Cricket this year. ECB insists on doing so because of the widespread outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.

The ECB has held talks with various representatives and all the recommendations will be discussed on Friday (March 20).

If the talks are held smoothly, then the board is likely to announce a decision within three or four days.

Notably, the coronavirus pandemic has brought the cricketing world to a stagnant position as multiple series and tournaments have either been postponed or been suspended by various cricketing boards amid the coronavirus outbreak.

ECB To Change Its Priorities Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

The cricket season in England is most likely to be curtailed, and there is a growing possibility that the cricket board chooses not to go ahead with the County Championship, ESPNCricinfo reported.

However, the board is likely to announce the delay of the cricket season in England by a minimum of six or seven weeks.

If this happens, the seven scheduled rounds of the County Championship would be wiped out.

Earlier this month, the ECB had decided to postpone the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka due to the coronavirus pandemic. The series was to be a part of the World Test Championship (WTC).

All the English players playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) have been called back immediately and the tournament has been postponed.
