According to recent reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering postponing the West Indies series in 2024 to avoid a conflict with the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Since its beginning, the PSL has grown to be a big event in the cricket calendar, and the PCB obviously wants to ensure that it receives maximum attention and viewership.

The PCB is considering possibilities to move the home series against the West Indies, scheduled for February and March 2024, away from the PSL’s upcoming season. In order to prevent overlap, the PCB has also asked the Emirates Cricket Board to postpone their ILT20 league by ten days.

According to the ICC’s FTP, Pakistan is slated to host the West Indies for two Test matches and three T20 international matches early in 2019, which is also when the PSL has been held every year since 2016. The PCB’s ability to “sacrifice” the home series was confirmed at the most recent PSL governing council meeting. The board has started talking to a number of stakeholders in an effort to create a clear window for the upcoming PSL.

The PCB may encounter additional difficulties if the West Indies series is played after Ramadan, which falls after the second week of April. Several West Indies players may be unavailable for the bilateral series in Pakistan because the IPL is set to take place in April–May. The PCB hasn’t provided any information regarding a potential new date for the series, but there have been discussions about the idea of playing the home series from March to April when Ramadan is observed.

However, as players will be fasting during that month, playing Tests will provide significant difficulties. In spite of this, the PCB played a limited-overs series against New Zealand during Ramadan this year, with the five T20I matches taking place at night and the five ODI matches taking place after Ramadan.

PCB also plans to add two additional teams to the PSL:

In terms of the PSL, the six-team competition now lasts 34 days. Its timeframe is constrained from February 12 to March 10 due to Ramadan. The PCB has asked the UAE board for a ten-day concession with the ILT20 set for January 13 to February 12 in 2024.

After the Pakistan board rejected NOCs for a group of Pakistani players to play in the league’s debut season, it is expected that the PCB would also free some of its players to sign a contract with the ILT20.

The PCB is also preparing to add two additional teams to the PSL, perhaps extending the window by ten days. The PSL and finance departments are now putting up a proposal on the financial distribution model, scheduling, and commercial element in an effort to persuade the current six teams to support the expansion, which is encountering several challenges, including its window.
