Australia opener David Waner achieved a massive feat in the Tests after his decent 36-run knock in the second innings of the ongoing first Test of the Ashes 2023 at Edgbaston. He pipped former Indian opener Virender Sehwag to become the fifth-highest run-getter in Tests among openers. 

David Warner, who has struggled in England in Tests, came out to bat with an attacking mindset in the ongoing Edgbaston Test against England. The batter managed 9 runs in the first innings but looked solid for his 27-ball stay on the crease.

In the second innings, David Warner played a decent knock and provided his team with a flying start in the chase of 280 runs. He stitched 61 runs partnership with Usman Khawaja that put England on the back foot. The opening batter played some magnificent strokes and looked set for a big knock.

But his stay at the crease was cut short by Ollie Robinson as he back in the hut for 36 runs. David Warner batted for 57 deliveries and looked solid at the crease, striking 4 boundaries as well. His knock provided Australia a flying start and made their case strong to chase but they lost quick wickets after that.

During his 36-run knock, David Warner crossed 8208 runs as an opener in Tests. He went past Virender Sehwag, who has 8207 runs in 99 matches. The Australian opener averages 45.60 in Tests and also has slammed 25 hundred in the position.
