West Indies skipper Shai Hope scored a match-winning century against Nepal in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers on Thursday, June 22. In the process, he entered an elite list of batters including names like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.
West Indies scored 339/7 after Nepal won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Windies were 55/3 when Shai Hope (132) and Nicholas Pooran (115) added a 216-run stand playing their part in helping the Windies finish strong. Pooran and Hope hit 10 four each and seven sixes in total.

Shai Hope Joins Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni In List Of Batters Averaging 50-Plus In ODIs
During his innings, Shai Hope joined an elite list of batters with names like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni among batters who averaged over 50 in ODI cricket after playing at least 100 innings. The list also features names like AB De Villiers and Joe Root amongst others.
Overall, 6 players have achieved the feat including, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Michael Bevan, MS Dhoni, Joe Root, and Shai Hope.
Nepal were bowled out for 238 in the chase as West Indies won the match by 101 runs also pushing up their net run-rate in the process. The Windies are leading Group A while Oman are leading from Group B. West Indies and Sri Lanka are expected to make it to the ICC World Cup 2023.

Last year, West Indies failed to qualify for the Super 12 round of the ICC World T20. This saw him stepping down from captaincy. Shai Hope was named as the Windies white-ball skipper ahead of the World Cup qualifier with former skipper Carl Hooper joining the side as Assistant coach.
” It was a commendable effort after the start that we had. We had to find a way to stabilise in the middle to give ourselves a chance for the bowlers to bowl at something. Happy with the result, there’s always room for improvement. Absorb as much pressure as we can. Their bowlers were bowling pretty well” Hope said after leading his team to a win against Nepal.
