Australian batter Steve Smith shattered a massive record of greats Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, Younis Khan, and Sunil Gavaskar in Tests. He became the batter with the fastest 32 tons in the longest format of the game in terms of innings taken. 

Steve Smith achieved the feat in the ongoing second Test of the Ashes 2023 against England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. The right-hander batted staggeringly well in the game, making England bowlers look clueless.

Steve Smith came to bat after England lost Usman Khawaja (17) and David Warner (66) in quick succession of time. He played exceptionally well in what were tough conditions to bat. He utilized almost every scoring opportunity and played some fluent strokes.

Steve Smith ended with the knock of 110 runs in 184 balls and smashed 15 boundaries as well. This was his 32nd century in the Tests and now has the same number of tons as Steve Waugh for Australia. He’s now only behind Ricky Ponting, who has 41 centuries.

Ashes 2023: Fastest to hit 32 Test tons (by innings) 

Steve Smith now holds the record for the fastest to 32 tons as he achieved the feat in 174 innings. He went past Ricky Ponting, who achieved the milestone in 176 innings. Sachin Tendulkar (179), Younis Khan (194), and Sunil Gavaskar (195) also feature in the list.
